Interested in this. The one estimate I have is $3 per sq ft to remove old paint and apply new.

When we had ours painted it was about $2 per square foot for preclean (pressure wash) and painting, this assumes the driveway was never painted. Ours was done by 'Driveways by Jay' and these are NOT sealed right away. I contacted Jay about sealing after 7 years (driveway still looks great) and was told they no longer do sealing due to potential problems with clouding of the sealer. I was told just continue to use DAWN and pressure wash.

You can’t go wrong with Aesthetic Concrete Design. The owner is Amy Newsom and she is very easy to work with. We had our relatively small driveway, walkway to the front porch, and the front porch area done last year. It was power washed and acid cleaned, stained (including an outline pattern and center image), and sealed for a total cost of 1,400. I don’t remember the price per square foot? She also stains driveways to look like stone, tile, and many other designs. The number is 352-308-7410

Agree 100% with the Tinker here. Driveways by Jay does excellent work, and is reasonably priced. Jay has his concrete stain made special for him. He has UV inhibitors in his product, so the colors will not fade over time. Being a stain, it is absorbed by the concrete, rather than just laying on the surface. The color will not chip, fade, peel, flake or crack. No sealer is needed, so there is no ongoing maintenance, other than the occasional power wash. There are tons of driveways he has done here in TV that are now over 10 years old, and still look like they did on Day 1. Any driveway treatment that involves skim coating, or regular sealing is going to be a maintenance headache.

We have had an overlay for 8 years. We have had no trouble with it. We have had it resealed twice, once at year 4 and once just recently; both times with grit added. The company that did ours was Go Concrete Design, no longer in business. There are a couple of companies that now do the same thing, search this site for info but I would not give up on overlays. We used Carman Galati Garage floor & driveway. They epoxy our garage floor & painted our driveway with design.
I think it was $1200.00 for the driveway.

While Cliff does exactly as he says and promises, I have never been so rudely treated by a contractor. My driveway looks exactly like I wanted but don’t bother Cliff with any extra questions. He clearly tells you he has no time to waste. I felt completely bullied during the project’s process. And I was the client! Even though I got exactly what I designed, I was made to feel like I was imposing on his time for the work he was doing. I will use him again only as a last resort.

They did an excellent job. They use stain not paint. We checked out a friend’s home that Jay more than 10 years earlier. It was in excellent shape with NO maintenance other than occasional pressure washing and spot use of Dawn. No sealer!

We also had him stain and seal the garage with anti slip coating. So much easier to keep clean and less tracking in dust

The price 3 years ago was under $3000.

Not trying to pe picky here, but was your drive painted, or stained? I thought you said in a different post that you had yours stained. I'm trying to understand the options. Thinking paint is different from stain. Getting the idea from another post that stain penetrates the concrete below the surface, so it's more durable than paint.

My understanding is that stain is definitely more durable than paint. Paint sticks to the surface and can stick to car tires in the heat and peel away. Stain soaks into the concrete, and then a layer of clear sealer is applied over the stain to protect it. Over time, I think every three to five years, a stained driveway needs to be power washed and have a new coat of sealant applied, so it is not maintenance free. My understanding is that the stain basically lasts forever as long as it is properly sealed. The one exception is that petroleum products can damage the stain and would need to be professionally fixed. So be careful not to spill gas or park a vehicle in the driveway with an oil leak. That is why the mobil golf cart repair people work on the carts in the road and not the driveway, they don't want any liability for staining their customers driveways. One last thing, it is very important to have very clean concrete before staining it, otherwise any blemishes in the driveway will discolor the stain job. Amy Newsom and her crew did an outstanding job pressure washing and acid cleaning our driveway before applying the stain. She also left me with some samples of the actual stains that were used on the driveway. That way, if she ever had to come back and fix a petroleum product blemish in the driveway, she could get an exact match to the samples. Hope that helps and good luck with your project.
