We bought preowned home with Roman shower. The tile has mold. I’m in process of scrubbing it clean. What do you recommend to seal the grout so mold doesn’t come back quickly?

I don’t have a suggestion for what sealer to use, as we had it done professionally. However, I did find that I need to spray it about once a month to kill the mold that develops. I use a half and half mix of water and bleach.

We have used Grout Shield you can find it online HOWEVER, I would call them if you intend to use a disinfectant as suggested above.

Are there any cracks in the grout? If so you might want to replace the grout. Not hard; it takes a little elbow grease to remove it, but putting in new grout is pretty easy. Lots of YouTube videos for that.

Lowes and Home Depot both carry a range of grout sealers.

Forget grout. Never ending problems in a shower. Have a solid surface install and problems are over. Here's one company but there are other choices.

Once you solve mold problem stop using bar soap haven’t had a mold problem in 5 years since changing to liquid body wash always when finished spray down shower top to bottom. Also you will find no residual soap accumulation on shower walls. Just my opinion

OP, after thinking about this for a while, IMHO, you should probably find a good solution to stop the mold, our tile shower is almost 8 years old, used daily, never wiped down and no mold. I would first get rid of the mold, and then use a suitable sealer. If you are a DIYer, then as I mentioned Grout Shield is vert good, I have not used the products from Home Depot or Lowe's. Grout Shield does have a warning on their product to use a PH neutral cleaner

Get rid of the mold and use a sealer. Get some “Clean Shower “ spray and spray everything that gets wet after showering and let the bath fan run about an hour. Those two steps dry the water . Also the air conditioner in your house is a great evaporator.I started making my own spray when I couldn’t find Clean Shower in the stores during Covid. If you want that formula pm me

What did they say at the hardware store when you called them?

They may have said, "this is the product we sell and the advice we would give but since you have access to tens of thousands of homeowners with the same shower you might want to ask what has worked for them."

To the mold issue you could consider these options:
1] Once the mold is cleaned up use a squeegee [sp?] to take the standing water off the surfaces after showering. This will help to prevent mold from forming.
2] Aside from replacing the tile with a solid surface material, removing excess moisture prevents the mold from having what it needs to grow; prolonged moisture/dampness in a dark environment.
3] Using preventive maintenance such as a spray bottle to coat the surface when dry with a mixture of vinegar and bleach mixed with water [I know I said to remove all moisture] will help prevent the growth of mold. Vinegar is a great product to use around the house to clean many things too.
4] Ventilate the room well after a shower helps too.
Mold is pernicious if left in its best growing environment

When we had a professional out cleaning grout in the kitchen tile he said do NOT use bleach on grout it removes sealer and damages the grout.

I highly recommend using ZEP cleaning products found at Lowe's, for cleaning grout and mold mildew. Best results with no little effort, just spray on, wait a minute or 2, wipe/scrub area, then rinse off. My roman shower was showing lots of mold and grout dirty until I started using these products. Now, shower is incredibly clean!!

We spray ours with INTERIOR Wet and Forget periodically. It works well.

Keep fan on when showering and get a squeegee and squeegee it after you use it. Only takes 1 minute to do it! We had the same and now it's not a problem. Eventually we are going to replace the shower but helps till we can.

We bought a 20” stand fan from Walmart, very inexpensive, and let that run in the shower to help dry it after use. No mold problems since.
