I don’t worry about things that might happen. Besides, I doubt our governor would allow another lockdown.

We all must rely on personal choice. Just because someone says it’s nothing to worry about may not be taking your best interest. I never follow the crowd.

Di Santis is not going to lock down Florida during high season. Also, TV is probably one of the safest places to be. Many people wearing masks and have had their shots and boosters. All good.

I had this Omicron, I am fully vaccinated and 68 years old. It was like a mild cold. This variant isn't causing those who were vaccinated to be admitted to the hospital. I don't know where the OP went through a lockdown but we only kind of had one for one month the first year. DeSantis is not going to lock down the state for a glorified cold.

Actually, lockdown is the least of the worries, the original poster has recency bias.
The real worry, which is happening in smaller hospitals, and having reduced services in larger hospitals, is sick hospital workers. Now, everyone's first thought about hospitals are doctors and nurses. But those are NOT the workers who are getting sick:
Janitorial staff is getting thin which results in slower room cleanings between patients, slowing down available rooms.
Food service staff is getting thin, cafeterias closing to only be available to serve patients.
admin and back office staff getting thin, meaning that reports for doctors and management to make decisions are slowing down,
as well as regulatory reporting.
XRay technicians are getting thin, as well as cardiac lab staff in places. . .
All these contribute to less available beds for sick people and for normal car and fall accidents with broken bones, etc.
the math is if hospitalizations are cut in half with less severity, but the transmission is 2x as fast or more, the same or more patients will need beds. . .
So make sure you drive carefully and be up on all your doctor appointments and drug refills or prescriptions so that you don't have to see the doctor to continue medications.
and yes, I listened to internal medical center meetings in the morning, so its not MSM or TV or web site reports, but actual multiple hospitals' reporting and decisions. . .

I don’t think there will be an official lockdown, even in my home state, Ohio, which is in a mess with the hospitals being full of mostly the unvaccinated. The governor has mobilized the National Guard to assist in some hospitals in the state.
Even though we are vaccinated and boosted, we are reining in some things we have been doing until this post-holiday surge shakes out. We have been pretty blasé about our masks, but will be wearing them again and more carefully picking and choosing where we want to go, for a while. (Please don’t get all grouchy and bent outa shape, golfing eagles, we will not be wearing our masks while driving in our cars. :) )
Omicron is so highly and quickly contagious that we have decided to be more careful for a while. We are still in Ohio, for now.
NJ, MD, OH, & NY are getting pounded with hospitalizations. And lots of people have traveled in the past few weeks.
Omicron might not be quite as good at killing people — but it sure is good at hitching a ride. The holiday exposures are taking their toll. I think we are in a wait-and-see phase, so that’s what we are choosing to do for ourselves. We are seeing this thing hit close to home, with people we actually know.
We have plenty to do around here anyway. But we hope our self-imposed, semi-house-arrest does not have to last long.

Totally agree, this is spot on. It’s very easy to ignore or underestimate the importance of this right up until the time when you, or a loved one, desperately needs a hospital bed and none are available. Trust me, it totally sucks. Been there, done that, and never want to be there again.

Turn off CNN, live your life. My son-in-laws mom just came down with covid a few days ago. She’s had 2 shots and isn’t due for the booster just yet. I txt her yesterday and this was her response: “ Great! I guess because of the vaccine. I felt like I had a cold Friday and part of Saturday. No fever, no aches, no loss of taste or smell. Looks like we’re all going to catch this cold sooner or later. Good thing we live in a free state.

Everyone do your part and don't pass along bad information. If you don't work in healthcare and have not experienced this public health crisis on the front lines your opinions are not facts. We are still intubating patients and putting them on ventilators, unvaccinated. WE are tired RN's. The complexity is hard to explain to lay people. Everyone will have a different response to immunizations and symptoms based on their genetics and immune systems that's why we all look different. Stay safe

In another month, the regimen of pills that fight Covid should be available to us, and that will be a huge help for those of us who are at greater risk. Of course, compared to the vaccine, it is barely tested, so I don’t know if anti-vaxxers will be willing to use it.

I used to think our health experts knew what they were doing and now I think they don't really know what is going on and are grasping at straws
and many of those SELF-PROCLAIMED medical EXPERTS have totally different and contradictory views
Back when this virus started it was all about clean surfaces masks and testing.
We waited for the vaccines as we were told that the vaccines were the way to go and when they first came out people thought that was the end of the virus as we would have some form of herd immunity as well
We soon we found out that vaccines sort of worked but not the way THE EXPERTS thought they would work...soon a 2nd shot was needed and now a booster and then maybe another booster? YET MORE AND MORE people got the Virus many of which were vaccinated with a booster.
but even with all of that we are now being told that while its good it does NOT really vaccinate you against the virus but maybe it makes the new virus like the flu ?
Testing has turned into a joke with a ton of different EXPERT opinions
Once considered the best way to go by the experts
now it seems that testing provides results that are confusing and doesn't really protect the folks who tested negative as they might get it an hour later.
Biden said he would 500 million test kits by Mid Jan...will that help ?
and where will he get them
as I believe Abbot makes the most reliable test kit and they can only make a small fraction of that amount

So for new strain it does not matter if vaxed or unvaxed, it is equal opportunity. It is extremely contagious like the measles so figure you will get it. Lasts 3-5 days with flu symptoms and no lung component with it. You will get natural anti bodies against Delta. Now most people who end up in hospital are infected with Delta, the deadly form.

Even though you get vaccinated, my mother-in-law died from covid. She lives in PA but they do not have the Monoclonal antibody therapy. In Brownwood movie theater, they have this treatment.(free) I tested positive on a Weds. last month, went for the monoclonal therapy that day and had no symptoms. My husband also got it but he was running a high fever. The next day after treatment he had no symptoms. We are really lucky to have DeSantis as our governor. We have the medicine to help us.

These shots offer no protection from omicron.
Most people do not die from covid.
Cruise ships are filled with vaccinated people who are sick with omicron.
Omicron is relatively mild.
The feds have cornered the market on treatments making it unavailable through the state imdependently.
Masks are useless unless they are n 95s.
Numbers do not support the amount of deaths attributed to covid.

I understand your skepticism, but having worked in the field, as you have heard, viruses mutate, often quickly. We have seen this with this year's flu virus (H3N2) that bypasses the vaccine. This is what we are beginning to see with the Omicron variant of Sars-Cov-2. With more people being infected, a higher number of mutations occur. Most are innocuous with little effect on the broader population, but some like the Delta and Omicron variants have staggering impacts. It takes some time to determine the effects of a new variant and then determine the best steps to mitigate it. The data is interpreted by the medical experts who too often interpret the data differently.....thus the confusion.
In the end, you have to make your own decisions. This does not mean ignore what you hear. Unfortunately, too many folks seem to be doing that these days. My concern is with the prevalence of Omicron infections world-wide, we stand a significant chance of having a more transmissible variant mutate that is much deadlier than what we have experienced, or it is unaffected by the current vaccines. Will we ignore the medical advice until it is too late?

I remember as a kid, I got a summer job with a booking agent called MANPOWER. I'm not sure if they are still in business. They would supply labor for temporary positions. The workers I met, including me, were totally unqualified. I FOOLISHLY tried to do a good job.Others simply did not care. The agency billed customers 3x what they paid the workers.
Our entire medical system is a MESS. An ER nurse. Imagine you have a life threatening issue and the person helping you was picked up out of a day labor pool and is being paid half or less of what the hospital is paying the booking agent.

Reality, we are, I AM retired it is far easier for me than when I was working-contacting far more people-using public transportation. The business I was in has surely slowed down. I'm sure people are not paying bills. I'm sure collecting past due bills are being made tough due to the people running these things.
As far as ignoring medical advice, no matter what we think, you can find AN EXPERT to agree with you and another EXPERT who says the other EXPERT is wrong.

Get tough.Humans have endured a lot more hardship than this. And stop blaming people if you are. Back in pharmacy school in the 70s we knew this would happen someday. If a fierce bacteria ever gets loose that's when to worry. No major breakthroughs in antibiotics for years. We may have lived in the golden time of virus and bacteria fighting be thankful for that. If we have to wear masks to protect others so be it. And get politics out of this. When kids start dying in numbers maybe these no mask no vaccine folks will get a clue.

Yet another innocuous looking post, that gets misinformation and speculation back on the TOTV board.
Time to give these posts the elbow, and totally ignore them.
Plenty of dogs and roundabouts to keep us amused! What is remarkable is these type of threads are most often started by users who have had accounts for 7-10 years and never made a previous post and after the post never return. Seems way to coincidental as there are dozens of these over a year ALWAYS topics that will obviously start long drawn out threads. The OP joined TOTV 10 years ago and his (her) only 2 posts were yesterday. If it swims like a fish it's fishy.

XRay technicians are getting thin, as well as cardiac lab staff in places. . .
All these contribute to less available beds for sick people and for normal car and fall accidents with broken bones, etc.
the math is if hospitalizations are cut in half with less severity, but the transmission is 2x as fast or more, the same or more patients will need beds. . .
So make sure you drive carefully and be up on all your doctor appointments and drug refills or prescriptions so that you don't have to see the doctor to continue medications.
and yes, I listened to internal medical center meetings in the morning, so its not MSM or TV or web site reports, but actual multiple hospitals' reporting and decisions. . .

Post who and where as my daughter is a travel ER Nurse and getting $105.00 with living expenses included in the Orlando area. Her contract is almost up and the recruiter hasn't found any better, in fact he says Hospitals are fighting the rates trying to cut them back.
hospital recruiter = hires as total cost to hospital = cost of recruiter + cost of nurse
Most labor contractors charge 100% (2x) employee rate, basically splitting the cost to the hospital with the employee
Coachk says if your daughter wants to work in the snow and ice in New England, PM us and we will pass along a contact information to the recruiter. . .:coolsmiley:

Yep, "deathly sick"......
From the Orange County Health Dept. just 25 minutes ago:
2020 Covid death rate--------about 2%
2021 Covid death rate--------0.054%
Yes 0.054%----that's half as deadly as seasonal flu. Doesn't speak for other areas of the country, but here in Central FL, pretty good

There won’t be any lockdowns in FL with our Governor who doesn’t over-react and impede business and freedoms!!! Plus I do not think most here are vaccinated at all and the booster shot doesn’t affect this new variant at all! The original vaccines are worn off and we are all vulnerable again but most people don’t seem to care as they are packing in the squares on top of others in crowds again as if nothing is wrong. We won’t have any of the high numbers like other places in FL just like before at the lowest rates of infection so don’t get worked up for nothing and stop watching the Orlando news as we are not part of that big city abd do not share their problems this far away! Don’t start a panic abd just live your life and protect yourself and stay home if you feel unsafe.

It’s beginning to look like a lot of the hospitalization that were reported as COVID-19 have turned out to be people, especially children, being admitted to the hospital for other reasons and then testing positive for COVID-19. Apparently many are asymptomatic.

Just congested but even that is almost gone.”.

I agree
So yes I was a BELIEVER in the EXPERTS at the beginning but not any longer
I remember (way back lol) when everyone was making cloth masks. Now, we're told that . . . no, don't wear cloth masks. They're worthless. Wear KN95 or surgical masks. I still believe in the experts: they probably know more than most. But I'm no longer sure they know much more.

I still believe in the experts: they probably know more than most. But I'm no longer sure they know much more. It's called LEARNING. As science (sorry folks, science really does exist) learns more they have to adapt to it by making changes. As for cloth masks they were always deemed bad. That has been said for 2 years. However as time and LEARNING marches on they are able to refine their recommendations. Sometimes the recommendations were made due to shortages so the first responders could get their proper PPE first and some due to lack of knowledge at the time. If science didn't "learn as it went along" we'd be stuck in the dark ages. Yes, it is confusing and often aggravating, but if learning didn't continue folks would still be drinking bleach and gargling mouthwash and dancing around a fire pit swinging garlic on a rope to end this. :)
Speaking of masks. There is a good chance yours and many others "KN95 or N95" masks are counterfeit on top of everything else and really just a little better than a cloth mask. If you don't know will it still hurt you?

Tis a shame you didn't learn that no one ever suggested "drinking bleach"...
And no, cloth masks are not "always deemed bad" and were most certainly recommended by the "experts"...
Fauci first told us that we didn't need masks (that was to ensure that peons didn't clean out the supply needed for medical staff's PPE). Then, he said that cloth masks were adequate. He wore his cloth "Washington Nationals" mask (and still does to this day) quite often...
Now, they tell us that cloth masks are useless (something many of us knew 2 years ago)...
So, lying to us about masks in the beginning was good.

Hmmm, my "cloth mask" protected me from the diabolical COVID for two years. That is all I have been wearing, IF I was in a location requiring a mask. SO, that means that the cloth mask is magic and will protect, right? Actually, the only time I wore a mask was in places that enforced mask wearing and in medical facilities that mandated mask wearing. I do know many folks that have had covid and they told me that they wore masks everywhere. I did not ask them if they had chosen paper over cloth.

UV Light is a type of intravenous therapy which is designed to introduce the energy of light directly into a person’s circulatory system. I will not wear a mask to protect those who will not protect themselves. I'm lucky to be fully vaccinated and boosted so I do not worry one bit about this virus. I only wear a mask indoors in health care facilities because they require everyone to wear a mask.
Anyone who can not get the vaccine for medical reasons, wear an N95 mask when out in public. Anyone who refuses to be vaccinated can wear an N95 mask when out in public. Don't expect me to protect you.

Any reference to politics, government policies, racism, illegal immigrants, Nazis, name or no name, aside or direct, facetious or not, will incur a fraction and possible posting restriction.
So it's OK to reference legal immigrants?

Ahh yes, big shame on me. Sorry, noone said "drinking bleach" I will correct that (that would be dangerous, please don't try that at home) it was just "injecting disinfectant." Somewhat safer I guess but bleach does reside in the disinfectant category. I won't start with the masks again because it is destined to turn political which is a no-no here. Let's stick with God. More believable.
Not to me!

:1rotfl: Now you're just trolling me. Good one though. :coolsmiley: Please advise which ones you understood to be in the "disinfectant classification" that were approved to inject. :1rotfl::1rotfl::1rotfl: Some people will definitely be some people! (Yes, avoiding direct name dropping). And those UV tubes ... OUCH! Gotta grease 'em up good first. :1rotfl::clap2::1rotfl::clap2:

I've already explained it to you. Unfortunately, I can't "understand" it for you...

UV Light is a type of intravenous therapy which is designed to introduce the energy of light directly into a person’s circulatory system. Individuals who are suffering from Lyme disease are most often recommended with this therapy as it supports red blood cell-oxygenation and promotes a healthy immune system.
Thank you for the more complete description. Sadly, it won't matter a whit...

Watch again. He was asking about disinfectant being injected. That was a very sad moment for him.
President Trump claims injecting people with disinfectant could treat coronavirus - YouTube (https://youtu.be/33QdTOyXz3w)
NOT BLEACH!!! Did you miss the description of Intravenous UV light?
THAT is a DISINFECTANT!

You must have missed the moderator's memo.
Or do you get a pass from them?

That's true.
If the post is allowed to remain we will know if the rules are applied fairly.

Only the most egregious post are removed (as it seems to me, but I don't know that for a fact).
So I can only assume (yeah, bad idea) that some posts may be left up, even though the poster has received an infraction/suspension...
