Agree 100%. This course needs a complete re grassing, similar to the grass at Glenview.
After Hacienda was built new grass has been developed which is more suitable for the conditions at Hacienda(a lot of trees and consequently less sun).

FINALLY, developing good grass for shaded golf courses....................I hated the condition of Augusta.

Holes 2 through 7 on the Oaks aren’t that bad, it’s the 1st and 9th holes that are deplorable. Those are the hole that USED TO have a view of a clubhouse including a pro shop, restaurant, pool/bar, and tennis courts.

Deplorable conditions, along with removal of proshop, pool and restaurant, leads to low play numbers. Low play numbers lead to low profit numbers. Low profit or loss from golf course operations leads to alternative land use. All the decisions made about this property over the last two years lead to the conclusion that the course will be closed in the future. Now that Southern Oaks is open all the advertising about the number of championship holes and courses remain true even if Hacienda closes.

A few bucks cheaper to play than the other courses. But like the other courses, way overpriced. And bring your own golf cart.

Fortunately alternative land uses are severely restricted since courses are designed as emergency flood plains. Also Hacienda is 27 holes and Southern Oaks is only 18.

[QUOTE=dewilson58;2047005]FINALLY, developing good grass for shaded golf courses....................I hated the condition of Augusta.
At this point I ? if TV would PAY for the remodeling that is sorely needed.
Bet there are more people playing Hacienda in a month than entire year at Augusta and a lot less carts out there.
Sure you enjoyed the experience. It is on the dream bucket list for me.

Agree with Jokomo. The horrible conditions are deliberate.

The plan is working. Show lack of use and than show reason for conversion to Apps.

Haven't been there in 6 months for that very reason. The worst was actually the practice green at that time. My golfing buddy was able to quip "they should have kept the clubhouse and demolished the practice green" :1rotfl::1rotfl::1rotfl:

I would agree ,hacienda hills used to be,key word used to be a very nice course, two tree lined nines and the palms offset each other, how can you as a developer tear down a club house at this corse,no restroom, except starter shack, can’t buy balls, tees, soft goods, put the starter on the spot to have members pay at the window?????I believe as others do it will be torn down to make way for condo,s or apartments,,,just what we need a higher density of people on that stretch of Morse ….the current generation of developers care nothing about up keep of current or older recreational facilities….it’s just greed..to quote mr.gecko…”greed is good”….this corse should be preserved and rebuilt….and there should be a residents golf association so your voices and suggestion can be heard….

So true. Maintained weekly and used a couple of weeks a year.

I do agree with those who think Hacienda will be gone in a few years.

Remember when Chi Chi Rodriguez said it was one of his favorite courses? It will take several million dollars for a redo of the Hacienda courses and only time will tell what the end results will be. Who knows, the current Developer leadership is full of surprises.

Played Lakes/Oaks today. You cannot come to any other conclusion than that they intend to bulldoze it near term.

Just took 2 guests to Orange Blossom. How embarrassing. No grass. Just green paint. Tierra & Hacienda are the same. Will never play in the Spanish Springs area again.

Good, less crowded, thanks. If you don’t like the conditions at Tierra, you definitely won’t like the conditions at the other 12 Championships.

Correct. Some are worse than others. All overpriced, these conditions would cost you about $30-$40 per round outside The Villages. And they will give you a cart to use for free.

It’s not in my nature to see what’s wrong, but what is good. I’ve played hacienda many times and have come to the conclusion that these courses at best are a B rated movie. If your in the fairway your not rewarded with a good lie, but a hard pan lie. The course is what it is a dump.

Realize that this is an old thread. Played Hacienda 1st week of June. Course is in much better condtion than it was back in January. January is not a good month to make comparisons as courses are dormant at that time. Appears they are making a concerted effort to get it back into good condtion and it is even better than it was last summer. Hope this continues.

I sure they can squeeze couple hundred apartments in there. :) IMO they will probably pawn it off to CDDs for few million then will need millions in repairs and sand replacement.

Anyone ever talk to the person responsible for the condition of the courses as to why it is in a poor condition?

This is a golf cart community, find it hard to believe the developer is letting the course run down so as to reduce usage and than find other uses for that land.

Here is one man’s opinion based on no facts other than it make sense. The Villages is planning to build villas at the site of the old Hacienda Hills Clubhouse and restaurant. To get more room for the villas the Oaks and Lake courses will be closed. The first fairways will be used for the villas. The greens and cart paths of the remaining holes will be taken out, fences put up and become “nature preserves”. The Palms course will be converted into two executive courses and turned over to the AAC. Thoughts?
