Back in March 2020 we had our cruise cancelled because of Covid. We tried to get a refund instead of a “future cruise credit”. They.said no so we have a fcc that expires dec 2022. We have decided not to cruise because of health and Covid issues. Has anyone got a refund after RC issued them a fcc and how did you do it- we’re not having any luck

Do you have a Physicians note saying a cruise will be hazardous to your health. Except for a couple of weeks ago 3 ships had reports of Covid infections. Have not heard of any recent cruise’s getting contaminated.
Maybe try the Governor office since there are no lock downs in Florida you might be SOL.

I assume you are calling. I assume you did not book through a travel agent though that does not usually make sense. On a cruse a travel agent often get you a quality up grade at the same price.

If, you booked through a travel agent, they have more pull than you do.

If, you are doing this alone, when you call you get a clerk. You want to ask for a manager. Not sure what an fcc is. Future cruse? Dec 22 is a year away. Covid? Truth no one knows what will be a year from now. Perhaps, you can negotiate a partial credit?
Perhaps, you can negotiate more time? Be polite. You will be asking someone to go out of their way to help you.

Obviously the cruse lines are not doing well. Ships are sailing partially full. If, you can negotiate a partial refund or a future cruse. Realize the company might go bankrupt or be sold or???????

Haven't had to use them but there is a non-profit advocacy group called Elliott.org that helps when you have travel issues. They have a column in the Travel Section of the Sunday Orlando Sentinel. Suggest you go to either elliott.org/help or chris@elliott.org for info on how to proceed. Good luck.

I have a friend going through this for a cruise in February a cancellation due to shipboard covid and port cancellations. Travel Agent no help because “ itinerary can be changed by cruise line” They are willing to take credit for a cruise at later date, seems cancellation policy goes into effect unless test positive Covid but you need optional cruise insurance to recover the loss.
Hoping for a positive resolution please keep us informed,

Had a Royal Caribbean cruise scheduled to depart today. We booked through Vacations to GO. Two weeks ago RC offered a full refund if we desired and we grabbed it. Notice of the offer came through Vacations to GO who sent an email with a link to either get a future credit or a refund. We filled out an online form. It was easy and confirmed by email with the refund due in 30-45 days.

It took my wife and I 4 months to recover a 44 day cruise which was canceled when covid first hit. Sure glad we had the insurance. Holland America didn't require anything as they canceled to voyage. All prepaid excursions were refunded almost immediately after the initial cancellation.

Try contacting the corporate offices - CEO, customer relations, etc. Here is the link to that information: Royal Caribbean International - Elliott Advocacy (https://www.elliott.org/company-contacts/royal-caribbean-customer-service-contacts/) Be sure to have everything documented. This has worked for me with another cruise line...

According to the Federal law, you have 60 days from the statement date on which the charge initially appears to dispute a charge. After that, it would be the bank's decision whether or not to remove the charge.

Yes, my son got a refund after screaming at a manager. He insisted on a refund not a future cruise credit. Be persistent.

When you say "we had our cruise cancelled" do you mean that RC cancelled that sailing OR that you told your travel agent to cancel the booking?

In March Royal Caribbean was allowing people to cancel bookings and receive a Future Cruise Credit (FCC) for the actual amount OR 125% of that amount. If the cruise line cancelled the sailing you could get a refund (or, frequently, a 125% FCC).

In any case, once a passenger accepts a FCC there is no going back and asking for a refund. I have not heard of anyone being successful in such a request and would be shocked if they agreed to do it for you.

Good luck.

Yes, we were refunded our money in full. They (Royal Caribbean) wouldn’t work with us at all. Contacted the executive offices and they got us our refund.

I have had a similar situation. I had trip insurance and did not have to go because the country we were going to travel to was level "red" on the State Department website. The cruise line wanted to give me a FCC and I said "NO". You do not have to accept FCC. If you take it then you can't file for a claim through either your credit card company or your trip insurance. We did get money back but it was through travel insurance not through the cruise line. I had to send them a letter in writing saying we would not accept the FCC and they withdrew it which allowed me to file a claim with my trip insurance.

What's truly sad about this situation and many more regarding refunds is these corporations are allowed to do this. This is in fact an interest free loan you've given RC who in turn invests your money to make more.

Congress does nothing to protect us citizens by not writing a law requiring a reasonable time to refund a customer regardless what the purchase. Many companies drag their feet refunding us while holding our money interest free to invest it interest free!

Sad this is one of many stories where this continues while nothing is done.

Sure, then I can make a reservation for every week of the year and simply cancel those I don't want to take. (not much difference between 0.05% in the bank and 0% as a deposit)

Of course, this will make rooms harder to find and more expensive since late cancellations will result in sailing with empty rooms.
