Do those mailbox stickers tell us who you are? It sure is an easy way to help find your mailbox among all those others.

If a sticker was removed would some not find their mailbox?
Do they have stickers somewhere on the front of their house/driveway/lamp post?
....just trying to be jocular. :)

Mine had a sticker on it when I moved into the Villages. It was there from the previous homeowner. Or possibly the one before them. It is a generic non-political and non-religious sticker, and doesn't offend me, so I leave it there.
What does that say about me? I think it says I just can't be bothered with nonsense.

With so many things to do here in TV and you have to worry about mailbox stickers. If it’s not on yours who cares. I mean really people, I could see if it was political or abusive or spray painted, then let the postal service take care of it but is this really what it has come to, sitting here and worrying about stickers on mailboxes. As people gets older things become confusing and memory does go, so if this helps people zero in on theirs or helps them remember which one is theirs, then good for them. I have got to get off of this Talk of The Villages because so many little minor things people complain about with this great place to live. Enjoy life people, don’t just sit at home and complain about it.

It was about a year or so ago that the Mallory mail center had all the stickers removed. It certainly did make the appearance of the mail center look really nice. I think painting was done too and the whole area brightened up, especially at night. Maybe improved lighting was also done, not sure.
I never have had or have never needed a sticker on the mailbox. I guess the location of my mailbox is easy peasy to find. Sorry to say, the stickers have slowly returned but there are not nearly as many as there were before the improvements were done. I imagine folks have no problem finding their mailbox without a sticker on it. How about using the number?

Yep! I drive right on up the road and look for the sign so I know which building to go to. The sign probably isn't necessary since there is only one mail center in the area and it looks different than a house or a rec center. But still, a sign is nice.
Then I get out of my car and stand in front of a wall of over 300 identical doors. Sure, by now I know the general location of my door so that narrows it down a bit. I should remember the number but I don't. But the little sign (sticker) on the door helps me find the right door.
I guess the sticker is just like the sign on the road that helps me find the right building except there is only one building to choose from but over 300 doors.
EDIT: Oops! Turns out my neighborhood pool has a sign and the postal station just hangs off the parking lot.

Other than the Postmaster I would take it with a grain of sale. Then why do the keys says "USPS DO NOT DUPLICATE" and you have to contact the USPS to get a replacement, NOT The Villages? Actually they change the lock not replace the key.

I was extremely angry when I arrived at the post boxes and found my sticker was removed. Put the big gold key in, the one that weighs 6 pounds and pulls my trousers down to my knees and it did not work. Wrong box ? Moved to right - NG. Moved left NG. Up & down still NG. Got in the golf cart and left in frustration. On the way home found the problem - wrong postal station.

There is a small generic happy face on my mailbox which was inherited. I left it there, makes it easy to find my box among the multitude of similar ones. Otherwise, at night especially I would have to bring a flashlight to look at the long numbers on the boxes. I’ve taken photos on my iPhone to find my box which is in the center of many boxes on either side but the tiny sticker on it is what I end up using.

Imagine going grocery shopping. You park in an empty parking lot. When you come out the lot is full of vehicles same make, model and color as yours and the only difference is the license number. Having a visible sign or indicator would help making your vehicle stand out from all the clones.

Mailbox stickers were a good, quick activity for my 3 year old grandchild this past summer. How many Mickies can you find? How many flags? Do you see any animals?
That, combined with the golf cart ride to the postal station, and I filled 30-45 min of “down” time.

The best thing you can do to your mailbox is to make (print)
your name (paper) in bold lettering with your address (no city or zip) on it.
Make it as big as possible be still fit INSIDE your little mailbox door.
Tape that INSIDE your mailbox door and it would be a great help to your letter carrier in putting the correct letters in the correct box. Remember most of the letter carriers in

Yeah, that could work too. But for those who don't have the location and elevation programmed in to their GPS, they may be reading numbers on nearly identical boxes.
Imagine a lot full of identical cars and to find yours you have to walk the lot checking license plates. Easier and quicker if you had a scrunchy or tennis ball on the antenna so you could spot it from a distance, don't you think?

Looong number, going up and down (not the way we usually read), and in my case at the very bottom so you have to bend down to see it, low light in evening even more difficult to read. And then you wonder why people don’t use the number? The Villages is a city now population wise, it is time to get urban door to door delivery, and stop this rural type postal boxes service.

The person who delivers our mail (CG) does a great job. How she keeps up with all new houses every couple of weeks has to be hard. That really isn't any help without a flashlight. I was our mailroom around Christmas and there is no way you can see inside to the little door when it is closed to see a name or address without shining a flashlight inside it. Addresses are all marked in the mailroom over each box although that doesn't always help because another family with the same house number on a different street often gets my mail which is why I "took a tour" of the mailroom. She said it was simply due to the part-timers not being careful as each address is very obvious on each box.
However I am tired of getting the previous owner's mail. Now I get 12 cremation letters every week instead of 6!

I lived in urban Houston for 10 years, a bit bigger than TV. We had no door to door service. You walked to the end of the block and got our mail from a lock box (and larger lock boxes for packages) similar to what we have here. 24 mail boxes for 24 homes on the blocks.

Lol, I challenge anyone to show me anyone who has been arrested or cited for putting a sticker on their own mailbox. What is the code section? What agency enforces this? USPS Postal Inspectors? They're about as likely to arrest for a street crime as the Secret Service. Vandalism? Not if it's my own mailbox. Ya know the mantra: "No victim, no crime."

I totally agree with watch dr. I don’t think the mailbox center is a place I bring guests to show off the beauty of The Villages. It is there for a purpose, that’s all. Riding by on the street they look nice and you don’t notice the stickers. Some people might need something to help their declining memory and mobility find their correct box. Some might like it because it is cute or meaningful to them. It’s not on yours, so get your mail and move on. Don’t get your panties in a bunch. Some people love bumper stickers, some don’t, some antenna tie ones (scrunches or flowers), some not so much, go home read your mail and worry about real problems in life. Go visit a shelter, do help at a senior center, enjoy what little time you have left on this planet, and smell the roses. Live life to your fullest. The clock is ticking people......

i want woodward & bernstein to expose why 6 foot plus villagers are assigned the bottom tier boxes and the petite ones are assigned to the top needing either a ladder or pogo stick to get their mail. Hint. I believe the conspiracy starts in the design center.
And also
to video the delivery drivers who kick the boxes into the smaller bins so that you can't fit a nickel in there and need wd 40 to get it out.
Also
video the delivery drivers with open doors who kick the red button to gain access thru the gates.

We had a single family home in South Florida for several years, in between Miami and Ft. Lauderdale. The homes were built with gang mailboxes and the gang mail boxes are still in use today. That area was much more populated than The Villages. I don't think it has anything to do with population whether gang mailboxes are assigned to a community.

Just wondering if you have a flower at the back of the roof of your car.
My car doesn’t look like every other one on the lot and I do not have to identify it by a number that runs up and down instead of left to right which is challenging enough.

You think? Is that a guess?

If you have to bring them to postal station to show off villages need to get out more often.:icon_wink:

That is what those fake flowers are for. Right?
Presumably.
Personally, I don't need a telltale to find my car, but my wife goes to any car of similar body shape and color. To her, it is just something that gets her from point A to point B, and "they all look alike".
