Enlarging rear patio doors

Good morning all,
I tried to search for comments about changing the rear double slider to a larger opening 3 panel patio door. The few posts I found were from way back. Just got some quotes for enclosing my small CYV lanai , over 17K, and think spending money on the sliders would be money better spent. We fortunately have a nice golf course view and this would enhance the view nicely. Any recommendations?

Your house will have header or lintel beam in the area of the existing sliders, and I expect this will need to be replaced for the larger width. Also, the side support columns will need to be added or modified. If your house is less than 10 years old, you should be able to get your actual house plans from the building department. These will have the existing design details of the opening, then you can contact a contractor to see if this is possible and get an estimated cost. You will need ARC approval for this project, and several permits (building, and electrical).
As for recommendations, neighbors have used T&D for this type of work with very nice results, but I understand you will wait weeks to months just for the initial meeting.

Look at the option to have the new sliders be stackable.
Requires a slightly different track configuration but easy while your at some amount of re-construction anyway.

Gives a much more expansive view when open.

We used Blackburn construction. In addition, we raised the height of the sliders and the height of the lanai ceiling as well as removing the center post on the lanai to give a great, unobstructed view.

Having recently had a 3 panel added as part of an addition to our block/stucco CYV, it's somewhat of a big deal.

The current lintel is poured and supported by poured columns on either side of the door.

I'm not sure what the code was, but now the rebar has to run through both poured columns and be anchored in the footer, which means that the footers would probably have to be re-poured too. Maybe it can be bored out and epoxied in.

Anyway, my point is, it's some jackhammering and concrete re-pouring. Our slider took well over 4 months to arrive. Not sure how they are doing now, expect the worst as far as materials though.

We have a Lantana and replaced the 4, 3' middle separating sliders with 3, 4' sliders, opening from the left, about 3 years ago. Samuel of EPIC Construction did the work about 3 years ago. Someone from ROMAC at the initial consult, came up with that alternative as it did not require cutting any floor tile or changing of the opening. Because of code changes the doors are vinyl vs. aluminum and the project was about $8K at that time.

We did use T&D years ago to do that and enlarge our lanai. The doors were off our kitchen and made a major
Difference of our view of the golf course. There was no structural change needed. They did use a subcontractor for the addition of the larger opening and I don’t remember who it was. We did just use T&D again to replace our 12 year old lanai screen. Waited
A littlle over a month.
