7-11 or a 7-11 type business. A gas station.

Yup. GoldWingNut talked about it in one of his recent videos...

hope they are successful hiring help
that seems to be one of the biggest challenges for businesses around here
with all the growth, the 'local employee pool' seems to be running dry....add to that the number of people that for some reason are choosing to not work (but getting money from somewhere)

Not sure what percentage of total population from Sumter and the close-by portion of Lake & Marion counties are from The Villages but I would think it is large enough to would water down the gas station & fast food related employment around here. Not sure how many young'uns are looking to travel 40 miles to work here especially with gas costs. Besides, many of those in the gas station and fast food working age group are in school during the day. The further you head away from The Villages the closer to "normal" the employment is. Just as an example, the 3 Starbucks around here (as is Dunkin' and Panera) are having a terrible time getting help and are often closed or partially closed but head up past Leesburg and it's not nearly as bad a problem there. Same if you go into towns like Ocala and Gainesville where the population is very different from here and the gas stations and fast food places are doing much better than here with full employment.

Then how were these local places finding people to work "pre-covid"?

I believe that there were fewer businesses, so the workforce was not spread as thin.

They haven't opened THAT many new businesses in the last 2-3 years...
In fact, more probably have closed than have opened...

Wildwood is adding another 2000 apartments over there so there'll be plenty of people to hire.

They're getting the money from the US taxpayers, where did you think it's coming from, seriously?

I think part of the problem is the virus encouraged many of the people who could retire to retire.

Labor experts predicted a shortage several years ago for about 2020. Given area demographics it is no surprise that “help” is difficult to find.

Yes and it's NOT coming from the upper 1% like it should!

According to USA Today,
The top 1% of earners in Florida account for 28.4% of all income in the state and pay 50.3% of all federal income taxes, the largest share in the country.

Uniformed??? Considering that this is already off the topic of the OP, why not close the thread. Seems like the question was answered by the first response.

Back on topic, property seems small, for 7-11, but the contractors will be thrilled at a closer gas station. Pain to get in and out, but it will be a very busy intersection.
At Sam’s yesterday 3 large RVs were gassing up, at the same time. Little crowded to sneak a car around them. Gas was 15 cents cheaper at the time, so if you are pumping 80 plus gallons it’s got to be worth the snug fit

Plus, it will be another place for golf carts in the area to gas up, at a cheaper price than in Brownwood...

Today I stopped at 7-11 in colony, gas was the exact same price as brownwood, and Gordon s garage. So cheaper isn't at 7-11

Well, I've stopped at Walmart (by Colony Plaza) and Marathon (Lake Deaton Plaza) to gas up and both were significantly less than TV Golf Cart frilling station @ Brownwood...
