Loving my lithium battery conversion in my 2012 EZ-GO

I just converted my 2012 EZ-GO from Trojan lead acid pain in the butt batteries to a RoyPow 105AH model S51105 and I love it. The battery has 10 bars that show the power use, and I played 18 holes and the power use was one bar. I don’t need to go faster, but the difference in performance is very noticeable. STM golf carts of Ocala picked my cart up and installed the battery and they were very pleasant to deal with. I paid $2750 including sales tax and if I had to do it all over again I would.

15 thousand miles on my 12 1/2 gas engine golf cart and I’m loving it, and still running like new. I figure it will out last me. But, I have 47 plus years mechanical experience so maintaining not problem and if I even need replace engine $1200 bucks if that, which I doubt I even will have too. Electric cart are ok if you’re willing to either replace batteries or trade every 4-8 years and take licking on used cart. Glad you’re happy, report back in 5 years?

The same outfit was going to pick my Club Car DS up in early February and do the exact same thing at the exact same price. Then they emailed me to tell me that they couldn't because of "availability issues" getting the battery.
I contacted RoyPow directly and they said STM had plenty of batteries.
I found out on a golf cart forum that they aren't a natural fit in a DS, and that fitting one in would require some modification of the battery compartment.

Rather than tell me that, for some reason STM claimed "availability issues"...too bad for me. I was looking forward to having it done. It's not the end of the world though, as given my particular circumstances, lead-acid may be a better choice at less than 1/3 the cost.

Your cost would take you about 40,000 miles with gasoline and that doesn't include the cost of recharging your batteries. I know people like batteries but....

From what I read, a Club Car Precedent would be no problem for the Roypow conversion.
On YouTube I saw a mechanic make a pretty minor alteration on a DS, to fit the RoyPow in. Unfortunately, he was in California I think.

If you want Lithium-Ion, you can definitely get a system that uses several Li-ion batteries that are the size of the 8V Lead Acid batteries you probably have now. I got the impression (from the guy on YouTube for one) that those systems were more prone to problems than the one-piece drop-in RoyPow.

If you are interested, you can search YouTube and get a lot of information. Also, there is a forum called "BuggiesGoneWild" which has a sub-forum on Club Cars, and a sub-sub-forum on lithium conversions. Lots of information from people who've done the conversions. I just paid $2736 for 18 cells (3.2 volt). Granted it was solar, 280ah. 14 kw total.

They have 48v drop in batteries the same dimension of the FLA 8volts that are in it now.
I would like logistics help on the conversion if there's a company that provides that service.

interesting. what is the anticipated range? Do you have to do the conversion yourself?

Wow, I only paid $2000 for an electric cart(like new) that I got from an estate sale that was owned by a snowbird. My trojan batteries are seven years old but getting weaker. I asked a cart repair man that was in the neighborhood, how much it would cost to replace the batteries and he gave me a quote of approx. $1100 installed. Lithium really is great but right now, it is very expensive. Hopefully, the cost of lithium batteries will decrease in our near future. The wife likes the electric, but I would trade it for a gas fueled cart without hesitation.
