Last night there was a Bobcat in my back yard. I live in a courtyard villa off canal street.
When I turned on the light he jumped to the back wall and walked from my wall to the next wall and then jumped down. (not in my yard)
If you have a little dog DO NOT let him out in the yard alone at night. My husband takes a baseball bat with him when he goes out with the dog now.

I would often do that but a golf club instead.

I guess bobcats and coyotes know where the hunting is good. One guy wrote that he let his dog outside one evening and a coyote ran away with it.

In our back yard we found the remain of a rabbit, probably killed by a coyote or bobcat. They had eaten everything except for the lungs and a couple feet. The next day the birds took care of the lungs and we threw the feet in the trash.

Probably weren't very lucky...

There rabbit disease going around. iIt will probably have up stream affect on what prays on rabbit’s. Hawks, owls, coyotes, foxes, bobcats.

In my area I use to see rabbits every night. Now I don’t think I seen one for two months.

it doesn't look like we live in the country, but we live in the country...the critters were here long before TV

some will move on, some will adapt...and some will move in when their haunts are developed

I am more worried about the bad drivers than the animal life.

Can anyone please tell me of an actual documented case in The Villages where a bobcat killed a dog.

Bats unnecessary. The Bobcat will leave immediately.

Look around at all the hundreds of acres cleared in the last year. The wildlife has to go somewhere. Most will eventually move but some will acclimate and stay here among us. Choose a weapon or a camera.

The reason bobcats and coyotes exist here and in far more urban areas is that they are survivor smart. They survey the situation and adjust.

Oh man, if he takes a ball bat with him for protection from a Bob Cat he better kill it on the 1st strike. I hunted Bobcats & you don’t want to be within
10 to 15 ft. of one. They’re one mean SOB!

It would be hard to get that close to a bobcat.

Agree, unless the bobcat or coyote decides that he wants to get close to you. That's unlikely unless they are rabid... in which case, you don't want them close to you at all.

Personally, I would prefer a stout walking stick about 3' 10" in length. You could use that to gouge them with or to hit them using a "baseball" swing.

BTW, there are a lot of raccoon here too, but you seldom see them because they are mostly nocturnal. Put a trail camera and some decent bait in your yard and you're likely to see all kinds of creatures you didn't know were here.

One of my neighbors reported seeing a bobcat on their wall. I have a 14 pound dog and the thought is frightening. Our Urgent News group reported it via email to all of our residents. I do not let my dog out alone at night. I did some research and found out that it is mating season which makes them more aggressive. The article also said that they seldom attack people and are easily deterred by loud noises. I am wondering if anyone has seen one during the day??? Coyotes and bobcats can get into the yards even in villas, so we need to beware for sure.

there are many 🌶️ pepper sprays that have a stream range of over 10 feet. Only caveat is that after using back away from area sprayed and wash your hands. Do not touch your eyes area before you wash.

If they don't like loud noises, instead of harming them with bats, clubs etc. Can't you just get a siren thing that goes on your keychain. I have one that when I hit it, it goes off. It's supposed to scare away an attacker. I also have the other spray just in case.

in a split second decision you have to choose between maximum deterrence ir a maybe.

We live in Tamarind Grove and back up to the Southwood Villas wall. We had a mom and two young ones come across the wall earlier, and recently just two "adolescents" went by, and then came back 15 min later. So beautiful!

I thought rabbits feet would bring good luck if you if you rubbed them.

I’m just saying this lady said her husband took a ball bat for protection, but you’re right he probably couldn’t get close enough to it unless he cornered it. Then my money would on the Bobcat! They’re very nasty.

Of course you saw a Bobcat, one day you may see a Black Bear. Animals were here first and we are depleting their world. Not the other way round.
