Beach BOY seems like a more appropriate name since Mike is the only original member left in the band

Bruce Johnson has been with the band since 1965... He took over for Brian Wilson, when he stopped touring...

Technically, he's correct. They released their 1st album in '62. Bruce Johnson joined the band in '65...

I think this is Love and Johnston only. Wilson and Jardine are touring with Chicago later this year. Catch both acts and merge them in your minds later. "Wilson and Jardine have not performed with Love and Johnston's band since their one-off 2012 reunion tour"

I saw the Beach Boy. (Singular) last time he/they Played at the Sharon. Mike Love was touring as The Beach Boys. I read that Al Jardine, another original Beachboy, had his own troop of “Beach boys “traveling and singing around the USA. I honestly thought the group i heard at The Sharon sang the Last Song best. Rest of concert was a letdown. The original Beach Boys’ Sound and drums just isn’t there.

We went to the last concert they did in The Villages. I didn't think they sounded as good as the original. Plus, the lead singer got political and was pushing his favorite political candidate. Not my cup of tea.

While many people consider Al Jardine an original member, he wasn't. On the first album released, Surfin' Safari, David Marks played rythum guitar.

At this point would think a good cover band would do a better job.

He most certainly was. Just because he didn't play on the first album means nothing. Hell, by their 2nd or third album, "The Wrecking Crew": was playing all of the music...

From Wiki: "The Beach Boys are an American rock band that formed in Hawthorne, California, in 1961. The group's original lineup consisted of brothers Brian, Dennis, and Carl Wilson, their cousin Mike Love, and friend Al Jardine."

Wikipedia? Of course. I read that too. David was a friend and neighbor and was pre Jardine (who came aboard for the second album. David was only 14 at the time so he was replaced so the band could work places David couldn't go.

Grew up in SoCal and loved the Beach Boys. Still some of my favorite music. Regardless of what Wiki says, and believing that "original" means "first", It was David's picture on the first album as part of the band, his name in the liner notes as part of the band. Al was not mentioned at all on album 1. Al appeared on #2, David's replacement.
