Poor Aussies. Victims of their own government oppression. I can understand the jealousy of the freedom found in The Villages. There was a time when Australia and New Zealand were free Democracies, but now, they have succumbed to European Socialism. We’ll just stay in The Villages and enjoy our “dark, almost sinister “ paradise. 😎

The "creator" of the film is Valerie Blankenbyl is from Vienna, Austria, The film is being shown at an Australian film festival not made there. Obviously she didn't do enough research before making this "film" and the misrepresentation that she puts fourth is laughable.

Like everything, you and everyone else their are imperfections, but this place is miles ahead of most other places in being a great palce to live and play.

I find it interesting that, "Australia's Leading News Site," would send a crew to The Villages for this story and that anyone in Australia would be interested. Who knows the real reasons. Write off a trip to Disney? Something to add to a resumé hoping to move to the US? Visit grandma at company expense? IT SHOWS ZERO WISDOM.

Criticism only matters if you give power that should be yours to others. Why care what a reporter from Australia THINKS?

She has power only if you let her get under your skin. As far as her view, she under freedom of the press is entitled to it. Truth, I see her reality. The Villages is not the REALWORLD. Exciting, interesting, a brilliant new thought? You can bet she will not take home any prizes.

Far as criticism, I had a friend who used to say make sure they spell my name right.

Getting a BALANCED view of anything requires listening to ALL sides. That takes TIME.
Imagine what would motivate ANYONE from Australia to KNOW to care about THE VILL-

Because this is such a great place to live! A concept like no place in the world.

I think one big reason TV becomes a topic for these documentaries is because TV can be viewed as a sociological study because nowhere else in the world are so many people aging in one place, semi-simultaneously.

Besides that, the highly visible Boomers have been studied since we showed up — 1946-1964 — to make up the biggest percentage of the population. I have heard Boomers referred to as “The Pig in Python” — remember that picture? — probably in Nat Geo — with the giant snake that had swallowed a pig, whole. As the pig was digested, it would be seen, moving through the snake, with the big bump getting smaller and smaller as it made its way out — damned creepy analogy, huh. . .

I think The Villages population is somewhere in the 130,000-plus range now — give or take the season — not exactly sure about that number though.

What I cannot understand is why some Villagers get in such a tizz over any publicity that does not follow a lockstep, tra-la-la-la-la script. This place is made up of people (with all that entails) — who are arriving with a lot of life experience behind them. Why in the world would all of them be the same — or pretend to be?

That old line about how a writer must be “jealous” gets trotted out on a predictable basis every time there is a new story.

That’s just silly. TV is not a target. It’s a study. Get used to it.

PS: We did not buy until 2013. But the first time we visited TV, we were assigned a Stepfordesque agent who actually told us, “When you buy here, never say anything bad about TV or people won’t like you.”

I was stunned and then I almost laughed in her face. But, being one of those polite types, I did not.

When we got serious about buying later, the MLS had what we wanted so I never had to see the other one again.

Addendum:

Sometimes, I think threads like these could be set to music. . .like. . . “Don’t say nothin’ bad about The Villages (oh, no, I love it so)” . . .

Oh well, I guess Carole King copyrighted the original for The Cookies in 1963 — and to parody it would come with a cost. . .fun to think about though. :)

Oh well, our home prices will be going up again. Think about the so called documentaries or short films about TV thus far… Creates curiosity visits which turn in to buyers, which create a sellers market, and BAM home values increase 50%. Okay I guess we’ll have to suffer through it!
