I have a record album that I would like to get recorded on a thumb drive. I’ve had this album since 1970’s and would like to listen to again. I do not a turn table any longer. Any reconditions would be great.
Thank in advance for the help

Amazon has a few turntables with built in speakers, Bluetooth, and a USB connection to record onto a computer, and they are less than $60.

You could also visit the Goodwill stores. They often have turntables for sale.

It is way easier to just bite the bullet and pay the 10 bucks and download the album in digital form. It will sound way better too. I had the Album FM that I moved from Tape to Digital years ago. It had the skips and everything but I downloaded it and it sounded way better.

I agree. You could also try to buy the CD on Amazon, or record the songs from YouTube or YouTube Music. Another option is to check the Sumter County and Lake County libraries to see if they have the CD, in which case you can rip a copy to your computer for free.

What artist and album, I have a large collection of MP3's I may be able to help.
I also have about 1300 albums on my computer and could make you a thumb drive or CD, if I have the album.

Go to eBay and get the cd for $2.
I guess people don’t realize that copying music is illegal. Just because you have it doesn’t mean you can give me a copy

If you can find the songs on Spotify you can play them and record them with a program like Audacity.

What album do you have?
I collect records and maybe interested in purchasing it from you. You can then use the money to buy the album in CD format.

It depends. There have been several court cases on whether or not copying music is illegal. I think the basic rule is that, if you are copying the music to sell, it is definitely illegal. But, if you are copying music for personal use or for sharing, it may or may not be illegal, on a case by case basis. If it is illegal, then there are millions of people who have broken the law. Most people will buy a CD or MP3 song, and copy it to their phone, car, and other devices. They certainly don't buy a copy for every device they own. Millions of people have used Windows Media Player and Itunes to the rip CDs.

Actually, because the OP owns the LP, I would think since he has bought those songs there would be no legal issue.

I too have a sizable LP collection and even bought a usb turntable to record my favorite albums to a digital format. The time it takes and questionable sound quality turned me off from this process.
Today you’ll find every song available in a streaming format somewhere online. If you’re picky about sound quality, then search out lossless formats.

If you’re simply wanting to listen to an album then you’ll find the price of turntables are outrageously expensive today.

If you consider $60 or so outrageously expensive. Several are available from Amazon and Best Buy. I think they were more expensive than that 40 years ago.

When It Comes to Copying Music, What’s Okay And What’s Not:

Technology has made digital copying easier than ever. But just because advances in technology make it possible to copy music doesn’t mean it’s legal to do so. Here are tips on how to enjoy the music while respecting rights of others in the digital world. Stick with these, and you’ll be doing right by the people who created the music.

Internet Copying

It’s okay to download and stream music from sites authorized by the owners of the copyrighted music, whether or not such sites charge a fee.
Visit WhyMusicMatters.com - Learn (http://www.whymusicmatters.com) for a list of a number of authorized and safe sites where permission is granted and content is available for downloading and/or streaming.
It’s never okay to download unauthorized music from pirate sites (web or FTP) or peer-to-peer systems, such as BitTorrent.
It’s never okay to make unauthorized copies of music available to others (that is, uploading music) on peer-to-peer systems.
Copying CDs

It’s okay to copy music onto special Audio CD-R’s, mini-discs, and digital tapes (because royalties have been paid on them) – but not for commercial purposes.
Beyond that, there’s no legal “right” to copy the copyrighted music on a CD onto a CD-R. However, burning a copy of CD onto a CD-R, or transferring a copy onto your computer hard drive or your portable music player, won’t usually raise concerns so long as:
The copy is made from an authorized original CD that you legitimately own
The copy is just for your personal use. It’s not a personal use – in fact, it’s illegal – to give away the copy or lend it to others for copying.
The owners of copyrighted music have the right to use protection technology to allow or prevent copying.
Remember, it’s never okay to sell or make commercial use of a copy that you make.
Are there occasionally exceptions to these rules? Sure. A “garage” or unsigned band might want you to download its own music; but, bands that own their own music are free to make it available legally by licensing it. And, remember that there are lots of authorized sites where music can be downloaded for free. Better to be safe than sorry—don’t assume that downloading or burning is legal just because technology makes it possible.

Enjoy the music. By doing the right thing, you’ll be doing your part to make sure that the music keeps coming.

No, do not borrow a CD from the library and copy it. Sumter County Library has a subscription for all card holders to access FREEGAL.com. This is a web site that has access to many albums (but clearly not all). Every week you may download 5 tracks FOR FREE for addition to your own digital library. You are not violating any copyright.

My wife and I each have library cards, so we each may download 5 mp3 tracks every week. While the selection of albums may be limited, you may find what you are looking for. (One week, I downloaded an album that had one track on each side.) Also, no lossless formats, only mp3.

I also bought a USB-output turntable from Amazon last year. I digitized most of my vinyl albums using Audacity. I did not find the quality to be so bad (as an earlier poster found) even after using noise reduction, but to have them in mp3 (or m4a, or whatever you might like) format is better than carrying around a turntable and the album!

If you would like me to help you digitize your album, I would be happy to do so. PM me if you wish.
