View Full Version : Do we need Ambassadors at the Putting Courses? SLOW PLAY!

I recently played at one of the putting courses. There was a foursome ahead of us and there must have been a lot of money riding on the scores because everyone played every shot like it was the back nine of the Masters on Sunday. They would line up the putt, take a few practice swings, go back and check the putt again, and then hit the putt. I played five holes (spending about 90% of the time just standing around waiting for them to clear the green). When I finished the 5th hole, they were still waiting to tee off on 6 (even though no one was ahead of them on the hole - they appeared to be chatting and unaware that there were people behind them) so I jumped ahead - there was no one ahead of them - and went to the 9th hole and played it. We then played 10-18 and on the way back to the golf cart, the original foursome was just finishing the 9th hole. We played 10 holes - 9-18- in the time it took them to play 6-8 and part of nine.
The next time I went, there was a twosome ahead of us with only one putter! They were also extremely slow.
I can play an executive course in a little over an hour if there are no players in front of me. It shouldn't take as long to play the putting courses as it does to play an executive course.
Any suggestions on how to improve pace of play???

If TV charge 20 or 25 bucks a person-then only those truly inspired putters will appear and all the PGA wanna be will stay home.
Look at Disney-- soon to raise rates again.. it's turning into an exclusive place to be. bring that $$ to 500 a day and we won't have 130 minute wait times for tea cup rides.
Love it- higher prices PLEASE!!!!!
p.s. remember when fuel costs went to 5 bucks a gallon a few years ago. only those who truly needed to be on the roads.. were on the roads.

Yeah, play when no one is around. Otherwise, just wait until the birds and flakes go home.

Why not just go to one of the practice greens at one of the real golf courses and hit some puts? No waiting involved. Answer me this, you said you had to wait for the group to tee off. How do you tee off on a putting course?

Probably the same way that most holes in one here are 63 yards with a driver:1rotfl::1rotfl::1rotfl:

Hopefully, and this comes from about 99% of the posters on TOTV, that was not a serious question.

Hmmmm. Sounds like a truly “entitled” way to resolve this. Fortunately The Villages community would probably, I hope, disagree. Some folks are just learning the fine pasttime of golf in their retirement. Perhaps we should slow down and let everyone enjoy the courses we all pay for

I would be so ashamed to slow people down. It's so hard to imaging how selfish you have to be to not care how you affect others with this type of behaviour.

Welcome to The Villages:1rotfl::1rotfl::1rotfl:
But what's worse, is those that get on this site and defend that behavior.

Yup. It's the lack of self awareness that's frustrating...

The definition of tee off is the first shot on a golf hole. You can use any club - including a putter.
The link is to an interesting video of pros using a putter to tee off on a 200 yard hole. These guys are good!!

Finally!! I agree 100%. Once I realized that it was better LIVING here “six” months and hibernating when the birds are here, my blood pressure dropped to normal. Joined the fitness center in the winter.

No but if you ever get it figured out take the solution to the roads. Countless drivers have the same issue. lol Rather funny actually as I referenced this very same thing just a few days ago.

We’re you in a rush to go somewhere? When I went to a putting course I didn’t play if it was Pack with people, just like I do when I go to a restaurant. If I don’t want to wait I leave & hopefully I’ll come back when play is slow. What’s your hurry, most of us are retired!

Last week the foursome in front of us had one putter and one ball. So they each took turns hitting a ball, one ran up marked it brought the ball and the putter back and then they did it again three more times.
The guy from TV , came out on the third hole and told them they either had one person play or they need to leave.
As he put it I can’t shake my head hard enough some days.
