Any suggestion on who to call, anyone know a retired HVAC tech looking to make some extra money?

Might help if you stated what type of thermostat you are installing, if this is a simple replace in kind, or a more complicated replacement, like a different make and wireless. If you get any suggestions, let whomever you call know the details of what you are trying to do. I have done some in the past, but these were the simple 2 or 3 wire types, the one we have now I would not attempt.

Thanks for the reply. Carrie Furnace, Honeywell smart thermostat. This is not a simple replacement, like you I have done a few, but this one will require an experienced technician, someone that knows or is certified with Carrie.

The furnace no doubt has a tag on it that displays the name of the company that did the initial installation. Call them.

Thank you for the reply. Yes, I also did that and called them. Unfortunately they wanted to sell me another thermostat and install it.

From an old thread: We used Good Guys Heating and Air (Mike) 352-805-0035, who did it at a very reasonable cost. All the wires are there, but because of the interface the previous thermostat used, I didn’t want to risk screwing it up. Extremely happy with the Ecobee.

I just had Mike out to my house yesterday to replace the outdated Carrier thermostat with an Ecobee 3. He arrived at the promised time and did the job. He pointed out some things and will be back to service the unit. :coolsmiley::coolsmiley::coolsmiley:

You made an excellent choice in hiring Mike at "Good Guys"
He did my HVAC service a few months ago. Top quality work. I can't believe how well he cleaned the inside of my air handler. He encourages you to watch and ask questions. And cheaper than the other companys.

First take cover off stat
2) take clear photo showing where all wires go, color, and terminal labels, C, Y2, etc
Look at new stat and make sure you have a terminal that matches every one on old stat.
3) Turn off air handler breaker in panel box.
4) Turn off compressor breaker.
If unsure or unlabeled, turn off all double pole breakers in box. Keep main breaker on for lights.
5) loosen screws on wires, remove old one, mount new one, reattach all wires to idenical terminals.
6) repower all breakers
Viola !

Not that simple here. A lot of houses have the Carrier thermostat which has separate brain box mounted by the unit. Only 2 or 3 wires are used to the control box. I got lucky because the contractor actually ran a 5 wire feed. When the Village Tinker won't touch a project you know it's pretty complicated.

Leave it to Carrier to blow out tradition and release crap that only they can service. The new amerika.

I use Chuck Farrell for all my HVAC work. Would not trust anyone else. I am sure they could do that.
