Hi everyone,
Doing some noodling about my move to TV - are the front doors on most homes about 36" across?
Also, I've seen that there is usually a door in the garage that usually goes through the utility room with the washer/dryer - what are the widths of those doors? 30" ?? Both going from the garage to the utility room and from the utility room to the rest of the house.
Finally, when you moved to TV and used a mover, did the big truck come directly to your home, or did they have to offload somewhere close and bring your belongings to the home in a smaller truck?
Thank you in advance!

The front door will be a 36 inch door. Other doors in the house will be 30 or 32 inches. The big truck will come to your house.

Trucks come to your house, (if have pod it dropped off in driveway in my area) depend on model of the house and how door entry designed. Some stuff I had bring through sliding glass doors cause the walls created tunnel effect where couldn’t t maneuver through doors. My has has standard doors.

Note that, if you are moving furniture into a bedroom, the main issue may not be the door width. A sofa bed will fit through the door, but it may not go around a corner. You may need to turn it on it's end, in which case, the sofa bed cannot be longer than 80 inches, the door height.

I have smaller sofas :) But good to know the door heights as well!

It depends if you are getting an older home or a newer home. Our home is 10 years old and all doors, including the door from garage to laundry room and into the kitchen, are 36 inches.
Older homes may be different.
Our home is a designer series home. Other series homes may be different.

Interesting. My house is 6 years old, and the only 36 inch door is the front door. The door from the garage is 32 inches. The bedroom doors are 30 inches. My house does not have a laundry room because the washer and dryer are in the garage. But, a typical laundry room door is 32 inches. I don't think I have ever seen a house where every door is 36 inches, even older houses and large luxury houses, except a custom designed house for wheel chair accessibility.

I don’t understand. You are planning the move here but you haven’t bought a house yet? If you have bought a house or are in the process your real estate agent is who you ask. Make them measure and take pictures of every door you have questions about. That is their job to take you all the way through the process. If they are too dumb to read a tape measure then you may have issues

Make sure you know what dryer you need in your home. We had to have a gas dryer. Some homes are gas and some electric.

But if the sofa is 84" you can tilt it a little to get the sofa in.

My home is 3 years old. Our front door is 36 inches, our other doors including bedroom doors are 32 inches. This includes the doors from the garage to laundry room.
Movers will unload at your home just like anywhere else.

If youre planning to bring furniture in through the sliders in the back, you might have a lanai, birdcage or something with a smaller screen door.

We live on a cul-de-sac and after the movers finished they had to maneuver the full-size moving van out of the cul-de-sac. It was a nail-biter as the driver tried to go around the cul-de-sac instead of just backing up down the street. He made a several point turn running over neighbor driveways and grass before getting through it. Yikes! What a way to get introduced to our new neighbors...

yep, just remeasured. The door openings on my designer home are 36 inches. Including both doors of the laundry room.
I guess the lesson is that every home is different, and the OP should select his home first before making such detailed plans.

People can only guess why the inquiry. If, the thought is some huge piece of furniture,
they are usually built to come apart.
As to transferring to a smaller truck, our guy pulled in with a full sized moving van. It is amazing, and often not noticed how skilled these people are. I at one time had a boat on a trailer. In reverse, it does not go where you think it will. I've heard of them needing to transfer to smaller trucks in tight places such as villas.

Our home had both gas and electric hookups in the laundry room for the dryer, it's almost 5 years old.

From someone who has moved a few times and moved some relatives and friends when you are in a tight hallway and you have the sofa on end so it will be able to turn into a room when you “tilt it a little” it gets bigger!

While I really want to move down to TV, there are family issues that are keeping me "up north" for the moment. I can't engage either a VLS or MLS broker, and I don't think it's fair to ask a realtor what the size of the doors are if I am not serious about purchasing the property. There are a lot of moving parts about any move and the folks here at TOTV have been invaluable for solid information. I figured some of you would have tape measures and would be kind enough to answer my question.
As for my "up north" measures - most interior doors are 30" wide and my front door is 36" - so if stuff came in, it can come out, and also get into my new place! :D

Kevin, if you are looking at a house less than 10 years old (or a new house) you should be able to get the actual house plans from Sumter County building department.
Also, the comment about getting furniture into any bedroom off a hallway is very valid, out very nice queen size sofa bed had to go on end and we had to remove the legs, and even with that had to be very careful around the door jams. This is for a 2013 vintage Gardenia.

Kevin - also, dont plan to bring much stuff from north. It is expensive ot move it, it is probably too much stuff and you will want to replace it once you get here.
EDIT: some of the furniture places have packages. For example, Babette’s has a 3 BR package, its around $17,000. At least that will help determine whether to bring stuff from home.
NOTE: there will be comments here that Babette’s quality or customer service is terrible. Just giving you information to make an informed decision.

Kevin,
If you are planning on buying a resale, you are going to have to measure when you see the homes. If you are contracting for a new home that has not already been started, there are options available. When my mom had her ranch built for her and my grandmother back in '03/'04 she had the doors to the master bedroom and master bath made at 36" for my grandmother who used a walker and wheelchair. She left the rest of the interior doors at 30" and 32" but also had the kitchen island top overhangs reduced to make the entries into the kitchen and the hall from the living/dining room to the master wider.

Our first home here was one of the smaller designer models, I believe a whispering pines, but it was built for a wheelchair bound person, so all the doors were 36”. We now live in a Premier home, and though the front door is 36” we have brought things in through the back sliders. I believe the other doors are 32”.

If you are worried about the door size - go around the back and move items through the wider sliding glass door. ITs a bigger width

I scanned through the responses and came up with, you haven't moved here yet and can't yet do anything about it (your words) yet are wondering if furniture etc. will fit through doors?! Guess I'm confused. We did a life-style visit and talked to a villages agent. At that time we didn't have any plans to come here. Just know that TV agents won't call or contact you as that's not their style of "selling". Once we made the decision we did A LOT of online "shopping"---then contacted an outside agent when we had questions. We came down to find our home----looking first at many "used" homes then we met up with the villages agent, who took us through a bunch in our price range. We bought new! Once we moved several months later, we did it with a Penske truck on our own. We had pared down our belongings to fit into it....but had also thought we'd be seasonal. That idea changed within the 1st winter here. We went back north, got that house ready to sell and down-sized even more. A 2nd Penske truck was procurred. Once here though we found we had brought way too much "stuff" so had to get rid of a lot of it. Amazing what we don't "need". Of course the house here is 1/2 the size of what we had there PLUS no basement or extra storage space as we were used to. Don't over-think!! That would be my advice---along with bring minimal items once you pull the cord.

Our movers parked right in front of our house (53’ truck).
Went through the front door which is the widest door in our house.
