I am hiding in my house. It has been a week. (That is why I am posting even more dissertations on TOTV than usual.)
I did it! I finally did it!
I had my eyelids done.
And I do not have that look of perpetual surprise. I do not look weirdly alert.
The bruising is almost gone. The swelling is almost gone. I always heal fast so I am.
I am still doing the frozen peas routine, just not as often. Longer than the instructions said though. And although I guess I do not have to sleep propped up now that the week is over, I probably still will for a few more days. (I think I must be trying to be one of those over-achiever types.)
By the weekend, I might be ready to nonchalantly appear in public. Wearing sunglasses to social things indoors though might just look suspicious.
I think I am supposed to wait a month before I am allowed to put on mascara and eyeliner. I will know for sure next week at the post-op visit. Anybody reading this want to volunteer how long they had to wait to put on a little eye makeup?
It looks like my only regret will be that I did not do this sooner.
I did not do this in TV. I am in my hometown right now where I know the territory and could ask at least 5 people who to go to.
But I thought maybe others here might want to share their blepharoplasty experiences and recommendations. Nobody can see us here so nobody can scrutinize the work. I love being anonymous on TOTV.

Good for you!
A few male friends of mine have had that surgery as their eyelids drooped over their pupils. Medicare paid.
Many female friends over the years have had their eyes done, most for cosmetic reasons. Some were way overdone. My girlfriend at the time could not close here eyes fully to sleep for a few weeks, lol. Some I could hardly tell there had been plastic surgery as their eyes looked very natural. I was relieved to read you chose your surgeon carefully!

I had mine done ages ago, might be ready to do it again. The one thing that I remember was the surgeon told me to close my eyelids while he made the first incision. I could then see despite that my eyes were closed!

Oh, my! You were awake for the incision!
The last thing I remember was the surgeon pinching skin above the eyelid crease and calling out a nano-number. Can’t remember the number though.
Propofol was my friend — just like the colonoscopy drug. Woke right up after. It’s a fast $urgery.
They had said something about sometimes using a little Versed before. I don’t know if they did that or not. . .
(I have always been suspicious of the root of that name for a drug. ‘Ver’ just like in ‘veracity’ or ‘verify’ or ‘verisimilitude’ or ‘veritably’ and the Spanish word ‘verdad’ = TRUTH! (Always wondered if Versed is truth serum or some such thing and I would tell them all kinds of stuff if they used that.)

Hey, Boomer…. I, too, had both lids done… 30 YRS AGO when I turned 50!!! And guess what… 30 years later they STILL look like I just did it! Like you, they never looked like I’d had anything done except that all the extra skin was gone. Looks so natural. I had mine done in my hometown in west Los Angeles. Excellent doctor who had done a couple of my friends. As you probably know, almost everyone in southern California has had SOME kind of plastic surgery. It’s considered normal out there.
I honestly don’t remember how long it took to get through the healing stages; I just know the whole thing was worth it. Happy you’re happy with it!

Dr. Latif Hamed does this procedure in Ocala. He teaches laser, surgical and medical eye care to other doctors. I figured if he teaches he must know what he is doing. He did warn me not to expect a great difference as he goes more for the natural look. My eyes don't look closed in photos now. It has been quite a few years since I had it done. For several years I sedated and injected patients for these kind of procedures. Versed is a wonderful drug, but a little explanation to the patient as to what is going to happen goes a very long way. I only used Propofol when someone was extremely anxious and all the explanation in the world didn’t help. The first mention of me using a tiny needle near their eye to numb things a bit was a great indication on just how anxious the patient was. On occasion if the patient didn’t move a lot I could carry on very nice conversation with the patient while the procedure being done. I had monitors in place but at times my hand on their wrist checking the pulse would calm things a bit.

I had mine done about 5 years ago, and I'm very pleased. Hooded eyes run in my family, and because I use makeup every day, it was getting increasingly difficult for my eyes to look "normal."
As I remember, I was able to use eye makeup as soon as the incisions healed. I had them done in NJ, before we moved here permanently. It was done in the doctor's office, took about a half an hour, and I was on my way home. Easy peasy. I'm still pleased with the way they look.
Good for you! It took me a while to work up the courage.

Depending on what needs to be done, if you are Medicare age, some of the cost might be picked up. That depends on your field of vision.
I knew, from the beginning, that mine would be only cosmetic so I had planned to have to pick up the whole cost.
If you think you might be interested, you can probably make an appointment for a consultation where they should give you the test where you push a button when you see a light enter your field of vision. They are measuring whether your vision is blocked. After that, they should tell you the cost of your specific situation so you can decide what you want to do.
A friend just had the whole nine yards — lids, above the lids, bags below removed, and a brow lift. Medicare picked up some of it — I think the lid part. (I did not need all that, just needed to get rid of some drooping skin above the crease, not blocking my vision though — yet. I had been thinking about it for a long time — and the time had come. It was for vanity, but it needed to be done for me.)
Vanity, thy name is. . . Boomer

I specifically chose an ocular surgeon, an ophthalmologist who specializes in all kinds of surgery of the eye area, some very serious — not just cosmetic. This one has an impressive education and a lot of experience. . .the consultation was not rushed — questions answered.

It has been 3 weeks since I had “The Bleph.” (I learned that term in the waiting room at my two-week checkup when some of the waiting patients had a conversation where someone asked, “Who’s had “The Bleph?”)
I ended up answering questions from a woman who was there for the initial consultation and testing. (My only issue is that I wish I had had “The Bleph” sooner.)
At the post-op checkup last week — good report, nicely healed, no bruising, no dry eyes, no look of perpetual surprise, swelling almost imperceptible, stitches absorbing fine, happy with the result.
Also, at two weeks, my healing was such that I was allowed to wear eye makeup.
Earlier in this thread, there was talk of Versed. I thought I had propofol. (Whatever it was, it was easy and I bounced right out of it.)
But. . .now I am wondering if there was some Versed involved because I think I now remember babbling something like, “I hear you are a sculptress. Do your thing!” (blush). But, hey, she did.

I had this done about 2 years ago by Dr. Kim with Ocala Eye up in Ocala. Her work was fantastic. I didn't realize how much my vision was blocked until after the surgery. When they ran the pre-op field test, they kept telling me to relax my eyes. Over the years, I had adjusted by raising my eyelids all the time. Now the world is much brighter!

Topspinmo,
I had only the drooping skin above the eyelid crease removed, but with this kind of surgery, I think they often tuck the muscle that lifts the eyelid, too, if needed to improve the visual field. As I understand it, Medicare will cover it if it is a vision issue.
If you are thinking about this, and if you have not already done so, it might be time to at least talk with an ophthalmologist that specializes in ocular plastic surgery or who will recommend an ophthalmologist who does.
Anyway, I wish you the best as you decide.
