Was driving north on 441 yesterday and noticed that Porters Nursery looked abandoned and empty. Found the following online article citing their financial difficulties. Guess I missed any advertisements of a going out of business sale. Just an FYI.

Thanks, V07, you saved us a trip. We had planned to go there today and I'm glad I was on TOTV this morning.

I was driving by last week and noticed that the parking lot was empty and no lights turned on.

That is truly sad. It was a nice place. I noticed last year after the freeze we had, that they lost a lot of inventory and were shutting down sections outside in the very back of the property. Was wondering then if they were going to be able to recoup from those losses. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to return since then but it was always on my list of things to do.
Sorry that so many places that we love are losing the battle in the financial crisis we have going through.

They closed the doors during the summer.

Glad to have this update. I drove by last week and was surprised to see a clearly closed store.
It's true that I haven't used Porter's hardly at all since settling in here, but I did shop there frequently in my early days, 2005-2008, at least.
It's always sad to see what appears to be a viable enterprise go down the tubes.

They used to be behind McDonalds on 441 across from Wal-Mart. That was a much busier location.

I agree that location was much easier to get to. My personal opinion is that when they moved that far from TV it cost them big time. They built a large store thinking the TV folks would follow. That was the wrong business decision.

We were up there about 2 months ago and there was hardly anything in the store and couple weeks later we drove up that way and saw it was closed.

Agree that move up the road for Porter's was a poor decision. When I worked in Ocala I went by there every day. Also traveled up their occasionally on weekend. There ded not appear to be the same amount of business after they moved. Lowe's and Home Depot as well as Walmart are much closer for garden supplies so many folks just did not bother to make the trip to Porter's. Sad that a family owned local business going down the tubes.
