Water Level in Duval Lake

I’m a new resident in Duval and noticed that the water level in the lake between Odell Circle and Backwater was quite a bit lower today. Anyone know what happened? Thanks!

Do not know what happened, but can tell you that there is a lot of pumping water from one lake to another and a lot of under-ground activity. We live at Hacienda and have what I would describe as a lake like depression that is 1% water most of the time. Have been told that it was an old sink hole

Normal for this time of year (dry season). The retention ponds are used for flood control, as well as irrigation for the golf courses and common areas. Without rain, the levels in the ponds will draw down. Plus, they have the ability to transfer water amongst the ponds. Once the rains come, you will see the ponds fill up quickly. In fact, it is common to see sprinklers running at all times of the day during the rainy season to help draw the water down, especially if a major rain event is predicted. Again, all good and all normal.

Could be TV is watering a golf course. Or maybe it’s a feed for another body of water!

The water in almost all lakes and ponds is what is used to water your lawn, public landscaping, and the golf courses themselves. Most are also interconnected so the water levels can be managed. But in the “dry season” like now, water levels in the lakes and ponds can decline dramatically, occasionally drying up completely.

Most of what people see are retention ponds and fluctuate as they may be pumped for irrigation or flood control. Welcome to The Villages.
