We gave up on carpeting, and found a great alternative, Mohawk luxury vinyl plank, from lowe's. This is a 100% vinyl product, it lays directly on the concrete (no foam underlayment), it is 100% water proof, and it is almost as quiet as carpeting. I did the install myself, used a box cutter to cut the material (NO dust), and did 2 bedrooms, hallway and 3 closets is less than 2 weeks 2 to 4 hours at a time. Also, I did not have to empty the rooms.
The other biggie was this is relatively thin flooring, and I was able to slide it under the existing molding, so I did not have to remove it either. Cost, 2 years ago, this was $2.50 per square foot.

Think twice about carpeting. Lots of things can get into carpets in Florida. Ask any of the companies that provide pest control. Good wood type floors or tile are much better.

If you are really interested in carpeting, may I suggest you go for the quality product first, carpet company second. For superior quality I suggest Karastan. We put that in two of our bedrooms in our designer, with a thick padding suggested by Great Lakes. Karastan is guaranteed for life if you have it cleaned every 18 months. At the time, Great Lakes gave us six coupons for free cleaning (9 years). When we sold the house, the guarantee and the coupons left over went with it. It was fabulous carpeting.
