View Full Version : Disappointed with Piezanos

First of all, we've eaten there several times and have mostly been very happy with the food and service. I've never been a big fan of their pizza, it never has enough sauce on it. But I do like many of their other dishes.

Today, my wife was out and asked if she wanted me to pick up pizza and would I call it in. I went on the website to order online.

First of all, when you click on "Order Online" you're sent to a page with three different delivery services. I clicked on each of them and saw that Door Dash was the only one where you could select "pickup" so I went with that.

I selected a pickup time of 4:40. When my wife arrived at 4:40 they couldn't find our order. She called me and I went back into their site and it was very difficult to go back and look at my order. Finally after going back and forth with her and the website and the employee she suggested that the order was lost and that I order again. Just as that happened I found the page that confirmed the order. It turns out that Door Dash orders are kept in a separate area.

I ordered a pizza for my wife with anchovies and pineapple and one for me with mushroom. I also asked for extra sauce on both.

When she arrived home with the cold pizza hers was fine but mine did not have mushrooms. There was no extra sauce but my wonderful wife asked them for some extra sauce on the side which they provided.

Rather that drive all the way back up, I just decided to eat what I had. No mushrooms, no big deal.

But then came worst part. The pizza was terrible. It was tasteless and was like trying to chew rubber. It may have been the worst pizza I've ever had.

Piezanos is always extremely busy and I think that because they are really the only game in town in this area. If another pizza place opens up they could be in trouble.

I will not get pizza again from Piezanos. Like I said I think that some of their Italian specialties are pretty good. Nothing special but good enough. I'll stick with those from now on.

We tried Piesanos in Lake Deaton plaza and found their pizza horrible. We were even convinced to give them another try and the second time was no better. Robertos is the best we have found and they are like a 6 on my pizza scale.

Last pizza we got at Piezanos was awful. I should have opened the box to take a look at it before I left. It was burned on TOP ? I have never got a pizza before that was burned on top, on the bottom yes but on top never. I have been here in Florida over 30 years now I have yet to find a place that makes a great pizza. I have been able to find OK pizza but that’s about it. The search continues, lol. Yes as one poster mentioned “ we should all be so lucky to have these first world problems”. I’d still like to be able to find a really good pizza somewhere around here. First world problems, LMAO.

My wife and I recently tried two different frozen Pizzas that we got from the frozen food section at Publix.
They were both very good but we both leaned toward the more traditional pizza from Newman. The California pizza was fine but it relied very heavily on a spice mixture as opposed to the flavor of the ingredients.
Both crust were also good, flavor was good, they were thin and not doughy though the Newman won this area as well because it was just a little more crispy, though this could have been from a 25 degree hotter oven (their instructions, not ours).
We have both had better pizza back home, but these were ok. They really are worth a try.

We like the "smaller" pizzas that are sold by Aldi for $5. Not frozen, just refrigerated. The larger pizzas have thinner crusts that are not to our taste.

Gave up on them months ago. Their take out location is too small, slow and way, way, way over crowded. It is upsetting even thinking of going there. So we invoke our right to avoid the place like the plague.

It always amazes me when an author says "I'll never eat there again" based on one bad experience. Good grief...servers, cooks, managers...they're all human and humans make errors. I'd be more interested in did the author call and speak with the manager? All of the hub bub about having issues even creating the order could have been avoided if the author had called the order directly to Piesano's. Sometimes we create our own difficulties. IMHO, Piesano's is good food, and over lots of times eating there we've always been happy with their product. But what is considered good pizza is very individual and one person's like isn't universal.

Marco’s Pizza on 466a has the best pizza and their delivery is awesome. Always arrives hot. The pizza is delicious. You can even track the delivery from the time you submit the order until it arrives at your home. They have their own drivers too. You might want to give them a try next time.

Marcos (next to Lowes on 466A) is the best we’ve had around here. Very reasonably priced as well. Excellent thin and regular crust options. Sign up for their emails to get notified of specials. A large 2-topping pizza for $8.99? Yes, please!

Regarding Aldi: if you don’t want to go out, we found both the Take-n-Bake and the frozen thin crust to be decent….get the plain cheese and doctor it yourself with your chosen toppings. You will have to go into the room with the sink and turn on that black thing that gets hot to enjoy your pizza.

Could be your oven is not cooking as hot as it says. Ever put a thermometer in there to check it?

We should all be so lucky to have these first world problems

Is this the new thing now? Because there is a war 1/2 way across the world we aren’t allowed to discuss local issues, especially those far less important than war? I notice whenever gas prices and inflation are discussed, the usual suspects come out with a post similar to the above. The corporate media talking points appear to be working well, we are only allowed to discuss (insert current crisis here).

We ate at Marcos (next to Lowes) last night for the first time. It was good, calzone was tasty too.

I’ve had good experiences at most restaurants inside the bubble.

I’ve also had bad experiences, at least once, at most restaurants inside the bubble. It is a product of crowds, workforce, a bad night.
Things seems to change fairly quickly, new manager, new expeditor in the kitchen, etc.

I give a second chance. If the second chance is bad, ill wait a few months to go back.

I make my own pizzas crust and all. Bread machine on the dough setting, dump six ingredients in there and ninety minutes later the dough is ready to roll out and make a fresh pizza. Sometimes I make the sauce other times I cheat with a jar. The best cheese is hand grated rather than already grated because it doesn’t have that anti caking agent . Toppings always include onion and mushrooms but sometimes Italian sausage or ground beef or pepperoni. I have a couple of pizza stones.

Point #1: The OP should have called Piesanos immediately, and asked to speak to the manager. I would bet they would have done right by him. Posting a bad experience on a forum does what? Was the goal to initiate a boycott?

Point #2: What makes a "good" pizza is highly subjective, and is heavily influenced by where a person used to call home. Folks from New York or Chicago will never be satisfied with pizza found around here. Same goes for BBQ. Coming from Kansas City, we have yet to find a place that serves good BBQ. There are a few places that serve up decent Q, but "good?" No...not even close.

I have gone as far as ordering a pizza from Buffalo, NY a place called Bocce Club Pizza. They ship it overnight delivery on ice. I throw a pizza stone on my grill, fire the grill up to 400 degrees and in 10 min. I have “real” NY style pizza that is delicious. we used to go to piesanos regularly, the food was good, service was excellent, then something happened. the pizza didn't taste as it usually did, the sauce way too spicy yet sweet, as if someone added sugar. entrees are too heavy on the garlic with not much else for flavor. i DID speak to someone about the change, they said it was recipe improvements. really? we tried marco, flippers and all the rest, but i'm really picky when it comes to pizza. the best these days is Gio's italian deli, with the huge sicilian squares they refer to as 'Grandma's Pizza.'

Piesanos, not Piezanos and yes, they are hit and miss. Overworked and understaffed. Their pizza ingredients start about 2" pass the bubbled crust ,which I hate. I always ask for extra cheese as I am not big on sauce. Most NY pizzas don't have a lot of sauce, but they have good cheese.

Pizza taste, as most foods, is subjective; what one person likes is disliked by someone else. We like Piesanos due to convenience of location and like the taste better than other pizza places. We ALWAYS do carry out since one of us in immunocompromised due to cancer; we can not eat indoors in a crowded dining facility. We use the Piesanostogo.com website for entrees or pizza; order and pay online. Website and email tells us how many minutes until ready. Usually ready in that time, but we have had to wait an additional 15 minutes or so. We order pizza with extra sauce and thin crust. We have had one bad pizza out of many.

Piesano's has the best flavor of pizza around - great toppings and cheese flavor. It's not NY, but it's good for here. Wish there was a Grimaldis closer, but we do go there when in Tampa. As a seasoned pizza lover, always know that you should check your pizza before leaving as your pizza may not be what you ordered or may not be yours. NYPD, Sammys, Robertos, Marcos, Bravo - yeah, no!

I went there once the pizza was so so garlic rolls were limp and the salad was bland. I’ll never go back

Have you tried the ribs at Oakwood Smokehouse?

We’ve had piezanos many times. Last week it was even better than before, one of the best tasting pizzas I’ve ever had. We’ve learned that calling gets much better results than ordering online. Quicker and tastier. In reference to the OP’s complaint, take it to the manager, not us. Tired of all the passive aggressive complaining.

We tried Piezanos in Lake Deaton plaza and found their pizza horrible. We were even convinced to give them another try and the second time was no better. Robertos is the best we have found and they are like a 6 on my pizza scale.

Agreed. Their pizza is terrible, I've given them several chances and no better. tried their meat ball sub and it was ok

"That this restaurant makes the a gooda pizza pie,
it brews the savory sauce you know,
They said so...
We're going back for some more,
and we feel.fine!"

This forum has quickly turned into a complaint site for local restaurants? If you really want good pizza, I would suggest making it yourself with whole wheat. Do a thick crust and you can put on PLENTY of whatever toppings you like - rather than being constrained and reliant on the local restaurants. You either get good at making it yourself or you find a way to complain about yourself.

Well, since the post is in the sub-forum "Restaurant Discussion", I'd say the owners of the site planned for these types of discussions...

What else would you suggest be posted in this sub-forum? New restaurants? Already posted here... Good reviews? Same..

Good. If you don’t like it, then don’t go back and it will clear it up for those that do like it. A bad experience here and there is to be expected with all the crowds that are now here. So many out here think of only themselves and fail to realize what it’s like to work in the F&S industry. You can be 80% successful but that 20% that talk bad about you will be all that anyone sees/reads/hears.
It’s fine to take a step back for a second and realize *YOU* are not the only one(s) on this big spinning marble.

I wish we had a Papa Murphy's here. Mt Dora is a long way from my house. I don't have any experience with frozen pizzas. Does anyone have recommendations?

I bought a Mama Cozzi's take and bake pepperoni pizza from Aldi a couple of weeks ago. It was huge (extra large) and had tons of pepperoni on it. It was a little greasy, but it was from the abundance of meat. For me, it was the right ratio of sauce, cheese, and crust. I think it was around $5 or $6.

Only game in town, you've got to be kidding, that's not even close to being true. Did you call the manager on the phone and give him the chance to make it right. If not too bad, so sad.

Great! All the Piesanos haters can go to your house, then!

They better be bringing some good bourbon (for me) and be able to put up with a golden retriever/ wiener dog mix that likes attention :coolsmiley:

I make my own pizzas crust and all. Bread machine on the dough setting, dump six ingredients in there and ninety minutes later the dough is ready to roll out and make a fresh pizza. Sometimes I make the sauce other times I cheat with a jar. The best cheese is hand grated rather than already grated because it doesn’t have that anti caking agent . Toppings always include onion and mushrooms but sometimes Italian sausage or ground beef or pepperoni. I have a couple of pizza stones.

Pizza Sauce

5-7 Cloves Garlic

28 Ounce Can San Marzano Tomatoes

4 Tablespoons Olive Oil

½ Tablespoon Monk Fruit

1 Tablespoon Balsamic Vinegar

½ Tablespoon Kosher Salt

Liberally sprinkle dried fennel on top of the sauce on the pizza before adding other ingredients and baking.

Directions

Put garlic cloves in the foot processor – pulse until chopped (count to 6)

Add remaining ingredients and pulse in food processor until desired size
Still quite chunky

Ready to spoon unto pizza. No cooking necessary but simmering sauce for a while makes a thicker sauce.

Glass jar lasts a couple of weeks in the fridge.
To store longer, spoon into a Ziplock bag and freeze. About 2/3 cup to a 15” diameter pizza = thick sauce.

As a former NY metropolitan area resident and self-proclaimed Aficianado of Pizza, let me say this: You will never get a good pizza from a chain. Nothing that comes through a conveyor oven will ever approach a pie from a "mom & pop" operation. Unfortunately, they are few and far between here in Fla-da. After 10 years, I continue my search for the best, but so far I've found only two legitimate contenders, Formaggio's in Ocala and Riccardo's in Belleview; Sammy's and Roberto's not far behind.

Palermos rising crust pizza. Have tried so many other brands and they ended up in the garbage. I was at Winn Dixie and the cashier was asking a customer if the (Palermos ) pizza was good. He stated he had tried them all and was the only one he and wife would eat. I got out of line and picked up two. The supreme was really good! Next comes the cheese with 1/2 pound cheese. I think they were $5 ea for a large.

Correct, Piesanos. And, Paisanos is a completely different pizza chain in the Washington, DC area.

And, while I'm at it, it's Citizens First Bank, not Citizens Bank.
