Anyone have any experience with DR Tim Van De Leur at Orthopedic Institute? I'm in need of a hip replacement. Who is good and who is not?
Thanks in advance.

Dr. Joseph R Locker at the Orthopedic Institute in Ocala has done several hips in our neighborhood with excellent results and quick recovery.

We have a friend who had a hip replacement with Dr. Messieh and raves about how good he is. I have seen Dr. Van de Leur once. I liked him very much but I don't know anything about his reputation for replacing hips. Good Luck.

Dr. Vande Leur is FANTASTIC...had my hip replaced 3rd week of February and I'm playing golf already. Never had pain, and progressed from walker, to cane, to walking without the cane in less than 2 weeks. PM me if you would like to talk...

Dr. Van De Leur did a knee replacement for my husband two years ago. It got infected within 3 months. He put in an antibiotic spacer, and then a second spacer. At that point he refused to take the second spacer out and said they would get a referral to someone else. Never did. We had to find another orthopedic surgeon to replace the temporary spacer with another knee.
I wouldn’t recommend him.

Dr Van de leur replaced my right knee. I was able to bend that knee 115 degrees in about 4 days time. The surgery was done in Ocala and he and his staff could not have been more accommodating. I really can’t say enough. I don’t know what a hip replacement would be like, but I can tell you he knows his stuff.

How is anyone of us in a position to recommend any physician other than commenting on the success of their procedure and bedside manner?
Would think it better to get recommendation via physicians who are better qualified to comment on the quality of their work.

Has anyone used Dr. Olliverre? Has anyone use the Villages Hospital? Some of the doctors do not practice in the Villages and I would prefer to not venture out of the bubble. I need hip replacement surgery.

Sorry, I don't agree. I think that TOTV is a great place to get recommendation for doctors. The more success stories the better. A doctor will recomend someone from his group and that doctor is not always the best.

Just saying my wife had hip replacement by Dr Duke in Ocala and it was a total success. They told her she would come home the same day and I was “ like whatever “. Surgery started about 8:30 am and done by 10:15am. Requirements to leave the hospital were the patient has to walk, eat and PEE. After waiting a few hours for the last of the three to happen I had her in the car at 2:45 pm for the ride home. Surgery was late December 2021 and the only evidence is scar tissue that hopefully I am the only one privy to. Well occasionally :bigbow:

Only once in 45 years in ortho, has a doctor said I am not great at Total (fill in the blank) some are good, some Not so much, but according to their personal view they are the best, in their field.
Ego is a great player in the OR.
Your theory that the physicians are better qualified to comment on their work, is not always true. I have found and had the pleasure to work with some of the best, who never patted themselves on the back, and spent hours with those who struggled with a procedure, but never would admit.
Outcome, (patients are good references)
How many times have you performed procedure (physicians)
Average time for procedure (physicians)
Infection can come from any part of the body, and settle in the total. The physicians have no control over, but may give a percentage and reason.

From what I understand knee replacements are much harder to do than hip replacements. I have not heard anyone say they had a bad hip replacement, you can correct me if I'm wrong. I'm sure there have been plenty. Dr Duke from the Orthopedic institute replaced my right knee three years ago and I would definitely use him if my left knee needed it. However, if I needed a hip I'd use Dr. Messieh, because he's closer by, has a good reputation (a friend used him) , and it's more convenient. I believe he uses The Villages hospital.
