The Daily Sun and other Villages media list how many villagers are from a particular state. Is this data compiled from where the villager lived just prior to moving to The Villages?

When asked where I'm from, I always say Louisiana even though I haven't lived there since 1984. Both my parents were born and raised in New Orleans and I still have a number of relatives still living in the state. I follow the sports teams, news and culture of the state even though I only get back to visit every couple of years.

Being a military brat, who later joined the military, I have lived one of more years in four overseas locations and have lived in nine states at various times. I moved here from Virginia, but my heart and soul will always can Louisiana home.

It's compiled from wherever they people who are moving in tell them they're from...

True, they are not exactly going to do a backround check.

And...it's the number of households, not people. Also, the Florida info is a little fuzzy, supposedly if you sell you house in Hacienda Hills and move to Marsh Bend you are counted as a new Florida move in. Got that at the Everglades sales office.

I agree, the numbers are not an accurate count of where people originally grew up and lived.

I believe their usual listings reflect only purchases of homes when they are first sold by the developer. Here's why I think this:

In the sales office buildings they have a board with the names of all new Villagers. Except, they're not "all" new Villagers. They're ONLY new Villagers who have purchased new homes from the developer. Whenever I go in there (it's a great place to just sit and relax, like an extended living room), I check. I never see /any/ listings of anyone now living in villages near Sumter or Spanish Springs - and I know there are plenty being sold.

We bought a place in Sabal Chase 2 years ago and a place in Rio Ponderosa 1 year ago. Both times, we were on the new resident board in the sales office.

I asked why there were so many new residents from Florida. They told me these people are mostly from the coasts who get tired of the difficulties of living near the ocean. They also said they are generally originally "from" outside of the State, but they post their last place of residence.

When I moved here I was not asked where I was "from" instead I was asked where I moved from to TV

Most villagers are from the 20th century. Time traveling on cruise control 'till it's our turn to get off. Try to enjoy the ride.

Don't think so...

When we bought our re-sale home, (in Osceola Hills) we were put on the board and had our picture taken with the sign...

Maybe they only list buyers who got their house from the Villages Sales office then, and people who bought via MLS listings don't show up on the list?

MLS purchases are public information, there's no reason they can't include it in their listings. Unless they just don't want to do the work, or don't want to remind people that they CAN buy homes from agencies other than the Villages Sales office.

Where they are from…….more useless information.

My guess is origin information is gathered from buyers of new homes for marketing purposes. If people from Michigan, Minnesota and Massachusetts buy new homes in significant numbers but folks in Arizona, Nevada and Southern California buy new rarely, management knows where to focus their advertising dollars. The sales office postings perhaps generate interest from existing Villagers in connecting with new residents from "back home" wherever that may be.

That would make sense... Since most of those closings occur at TV Sales Centers

To your 2nd point... Sure, why not...

I lived in a community that had that kind of phone book.
It was called the "Nosey Nellie."
