COVID Case Update

As most Villagers know, The Villages spans through three different counties. Here are the number of new COVID cases as of Mar. 22, according to the CDC website. In Lake County, there have been 149 new cases over the last week. 15 of those cases were admitted to the hospital, and 13 resulted in death.

These are just rhetorical questions, I realize no one can actually answer these questions, but the old professor in me emerges at times even in retirement, and I wonder: How many of those who were admitted and eventually passed on, died OF or WITH the virus ?
In other words, it the "average" number of deaths in a random number of admissions, 13 out of 15 ? Or, are these admissions for multiple ailments/conditions ? Not commenting either way on what others might think or be able to draw from this, I just personally find such "raw" numbers kind of useless if one is looking to draw conclusions. Such as, is Covid more, or less, deadly in Sumter, Lake, or Marion now as compared to a year ago, two years ago ? Loosing 13 of 15 patients could seem terrifying, or, who would ever know if there are any missing numbers or additional details in such simplified figures as printed in many/most media sources. I just read it and think, there's really not enough information there to draw any kind of conclusion, so.... takes up print I guess ? Have no idea !
