I was just wondering:

What piece of advice have you received on TOTV that has benefitted you the most?

When we were thinking about buying here, I asked if people thought that the houses were built well. Although usually there is some disagreement, everyone who responded told us that the homes were well built and kept out the heat well, and I have come to find out that they are and they do.

A Sage once said:
I suggest you choose my neighborhood. It has a mix of all kinds of houses offered and they all have pretty plants in the yard. The neighbors are the very best and they come from all over the country and from Canada. Some are in their early fifties and some are in their sixties and some in their 70's and eighties. The people in our neighborhood have block parties and wave at each other when they are out riding in their golf carts and stop to chat if you meet them walking. There is one grouchy person, but I can't remember who it is. The sunshine is the brightest in my neighborhood and the sky the bluest. The people in my neighborhood in my village have the most beautiful and the smartest children and grandchildren because they told me they did. The people on my street have a wrinkle or too, but boy do they have warm and interesting personalities. We have both both political parties represented in my neighborhood and sometimes people are sick and other people come to visit and bring them meals. The people in my Village are so wonderful and the houses are so lovely and all different inside.

Our neighborhood, our Village is the very best. You will love it.

(I'm confident she was right, we're moving to a place just down the road from hers)

I learned a lot about golf cart choices/options. Also got some good leads on contractors/suppliers, where to find what.

Especially great are zcaveman's Nuts and Bolts posts.

Kissing Lanai's, my wife loves that expression. Also, about good contractors, golf carts, stores and I learned of the many wonderful people who post here.

Like I said in a previous post, TOTV is the first place we come to for vendors/contractors/service recommendations. If TOTV gives them a thumbs up, we know we will be okay, and so far, so good!

Contractors and services, definitely. We don't hire anyone to do anything without looking here first.

The advice we got about using a Villages real estate agent and an outside agent to look for a home here.

It's hard to say which was/is more important to us.

Every newcomer to TV asks the inevitable question: gas or electric (golf carts)? We didn't need to ask, the question and answers were already here on TOTV. Better yet, there were several candid golf cart purchase (horror) stories, which saved us from making that same bad decision. We're forever grateful.

We've been blessed with answers regarding furniture shopping, golf cart purchase, insurance coverage to include golf cart and homeowner's, eating establishments:bowdown:, airport shuttle service, solar fans and general information about the wonderful atmosphere and great people that live in the villages and last but certainly not least was the great info that was put together on the nuts and bolts email for all us newbies. Every anwer has been exactly what we needed.

"Don't take any wooden nickels!" Oh wait - that was something my dad always told me. Sorry!

Best piece of advice from TOTV: "To buy or not to buy (from the perspective of being snowflakes)" - that was our biggest initial dilemma regarding TV. What many had to say on TOTV really helped us formulate what we eventually decided to do - buy a place of our own. Do what suits YOU, not what others might like/want. But reading what others had to say was such a big help for us.

I would also say contractors. Investment Painters and Tim "The Toolman" Miller come to mind as two I used because of the many references seen on this sight. Also, homeowners insurance and golf cart insurance from The Villages Insurance agency on Delmar from agent Sheri Miller.

Absolutely! First Class Info. I also learned that "it's never to late to have a happy childhood." Where else you gonna get this kind of valuable stuff????

When saying that we were going to try to sell our house in Ohio, Bill of Bill n Brillo posted that his advice is to list your home "as low as you can stomach"...

And we did. It was on the market for nine days and we had a bidding war and it sold for slightly above what we asked.

He also said...(I THINK???) that if you are not having any lookers than your home is priced too high.....but maybe that wasn't him. But our realtor said the same thing.

I just want anyone who wants to be here, TO BE HERE, with all of us lucky folks in lower Paradise.

Just the TOTV people. Such a great gathering of wonderful minds. A wealth of information about everything from A to Z. And stay away from the political forum.
