This should get interesting really fast. "ticketing ALL" carts going over 20mph? They are going to be really busy. And really unpopular.

Oh, yeah, gonna get real interesting. I can just see the little clipboard lady pulling over some big angry guy and writing him a ticket for 21mph on the MMP.

This program is being run by the developer as he was tired of people complaining about speeders. He will use the funds to demolish katie belles so nobody will complain.

If this works than they will target slowpokes.

I had heard that the sirens that will be used are different than the ones used by Law Enforcement.
The sirens provided in this wonderful program just play the theme song from the TV show COPS.

Oh Rats. I thought that the speeding checking was false but I thought that was just a ruse to get a uniformed force of residents armed and amassed at the "Walmart Gate" to keep all of those masses of illegal aliens from Stonecrest from entering the promised land of The Villages and usurping our beloved MMP. I guess that we have to go back to planned Toll Booth at that gate to keep those rascals out.

Is this an April fools joke??!!??

Commission?

Yeah no incentive here.

I do agree there seem to be some speedsters out there that it would be nice to watch sweet justice prevail.

I was buzzed by a lifted "work style" ATV or cart (?) out by Water Lily Bridge at about 9 PM. Absolutely no one around and in the darker area where street lights are not as prevelant.

I thought it was a car on the road at first as it fly by. It had to be going at least 30. It was so fast and made no noise approaching so it caught me completely off guard. If I had pulled left from hugging my side of the path it would have killed both of us I am sure of it. I would have happily made a commission off of that a@#$%^&!

Bingo.

On a more serious note though, I've thought for awhile now that cops working on commission isn't such a bad idea. Back in Minnesota I suggested that off-duty or retired law enforcement officers might like the opportunity to pick up a few bucks on the side doing traffic enforcement, not on golf-cart paths but particularly on freeways and major roads where the scofflaws are omnipresent--and dangerous. There's no reason why it wouldn't work: after all the cops doing the enforcement would still be licensed peace officers and the and rules of evidence, fines, etc. would be the same as if you were nabbed breaking a law on a highway by a cop doing his or her regular shift.

It was greeted with, shall we say, something less than wild enthusiasm. But a surprising number of people thought it would be a good thing to do.

...The assumption being that all cops working on commission would milk the system for every possible cent?

I don't agree. I've known many people who work on commission who are also as honest as the day is long. In any case you'd still have to be breaking the law to get caught, and once caught you'd have the same rights as anyone else. If you felt you WERE innocent you could plead not guilty, go to court, and make the cop prove you broke the law.

I said some and meant some. Have gone to court after getting what I thought was an unjust ticket. Won some and lost some but it is going to cost a huge amount of time to go to court and wait your turn.

Here’s a vote for the slow poke patrol. Ticket anyone who keeps golf carts from traveling on the MMP’s at the legal speed limit. A partial list of offenders would include other carts driving too slow, walkers not facing traffic, and bicycles that ride side by side or don’t have rear view mirrors and pull over to let approaching carts easily pass. The ticket proceeds will go into a fund to compensate golf cart drivers who are late for their t times, pickle-ball, softball, other similar activities, or dinner reservations as a result of said slow pokes. The fines will be quadrupled if any offender is staring at their cell phone while committing the offense. I think it’s a great idea, bring it on!

Most of the accidents happen between golf carts and curbs , just look at the curb side you’ll see all the black, the lack of judgment of some of the operators in my opinion. PS The Villages needs to slow there contractors the frig down they fly on marsh bend trail, and while we’re on contractors they should be fined for leaving massive amount of oil and other fluids left on the street when they park on our streets doing after market work T and D been one of them.

We used to say that more tickets were written at the end of the month so officers could make their quota. Never knew if that was actually true, and didn't really care. My parents raised me respect and obey the law.

The blame should fall on the many speeders & drunk drivers who are causing many accidents.
There is a need for MMP’s speed enforcement. I feel that is it is safer to drive cars on the roads than golf carts on the MMP. Many walkers, bikers & etc have been treated rudely by Golf Cart drivers. The speeders tailgate the carts that are going the speed limit. Young grandchildren should not be driving a cart. Those who are causing the accidents & driving their carts recklessly are the reason these MMP cops have been organized. I don’t want to hear all about the traffic cops I want to read how upset people are with the DUI’s, speeders & recklessness of Golf Cart drivers.

Respect for law. Something that is becoming less and less common. The people who DO respect the law have nothing to worry about if increased highway enforcement, paid or otherwise (commission) becomes the norm.

Minnesota, where I come from, has long bemoaned the fact that they just don't have enough officers to efficiently patrol the highways. I saw a story in one of the Twin Cities publications a few years ago that quantified it: if you speed in Minnesota you have maybe 1 chance in 500 of being ticketed. Maybe Florida is different; I don't know. But I see precious few patrol cars on the Expressway or on I-75 and seemingly more and more reckless drivers who are endangering others as well as themselves. Increased enforcement, in some fashion, should be the order of the day.

You wannabe Barney Fife types have absolutely NO authority to stop, detain, and fine anyone. You could be liable for a slew of charges as in impersonating a police officer, unlawful imprisonment, harassment, assault, reckless driving, etc. There is no way anyone will be dumb enough to even consider paying you any fines; no way, nada, nein, nay, fuhgetaboutit!

But think of the fun we can have chasing people.

The Villages will be starting a program to curb the speeding on multi modal paths.
The Citizens on Patrol for Speeders will start ticketing all vehicles that exceed 20 miles per hour. The first ticket will be 25$ and second and forward will be 75$. The Cops will work off a 30% commission rate, use their own golf cars, be equipped with radar guns, sirens, and use their own phone to capture pictures. The excess funds will be used to cover equipment costs, uniforms, food banks, and psychological evaluations for repeat offenders. If your interested in becoming part of COPS please call 1-800-468-9255 on Tuesdays from 10-2. Thank You!

What Villa community did Barney Fife move into?

I’ll do it for 25% commission

O that’s way to low, 85% minimum or more. Like majority of charities.

the program gives them a supercharge so they can go 25 1/2 mph and even faster downhill.

Then not going to catch any golfers…. :)

This is just what we need here, self important , self appointed brown shirts that want to have authority over others. They are not POLICE and if I am approached by them they will be told to **** off. If they attempt to ID me they will fail, and lastly if they try to detain me they will face civil charges for wrongful arrest and kidnapping! Traffic laws can only be enforced by legally appointed law enforcement personnel. This is a terrible idea that will have profound negative effects on the quality of life here in TV.
