I just watched “Death on the Nile” (2022) with HBO why go to the theater I have wine, beer, soda, popcorn a HOLD button and a bathroom within 20 feet. It only took a pandemic to figure out how much I don’t miss or need movie theaters.

Would it have been better on a very large screen?

Covid-19 changed a lot of things

perhaps at some point the other two venues will reopen....or maybe they'll be converted into something else

I know they stopped the renovations at the Spanish Springs theater, didn’t realize another one was closed. I have not been to a movie theater in 20 years but had figured I would at some point go.

On where you live there are plenty of other better bigger movie theaters. Leesburg has one with electric reclining seats and you can go to Mount Dora or Clermont for several other theaters named epic that are cleaner better and also great sound

Thank you everyone. We really enjoy going to the movies. Sorry to see that two theaters have closed. Glad there is still one though.

The developer has been less than forthcoming about the future of the other two theaters. That is a shame.

Villages Kahuna
04-04-2022, 06:27 AM
Because almost all of The Villages movie theatres remain closed?

Unfortunately the pandemic appears to have resulted in most people simply watching movies at home on their big screen TV. It’s not altogether clear whether our three multiple screen movie theaters will ever fully re-open. You have to have paying customers in the movie theater seats to make them viable businesses. That ain’t happening.

I thought I'd use this opportunity to start the completely unfounded rumor that they're planning on putting in apartments in those theaters...

So many love seeing these movies on the big screen. I think the villages is losing revenue by not reopening Rialto and Brownwood theaters. I have been going to Leesburg and Ocala to catch Dailey showings of those and additional offerings . This would be attractive to residents. Nightly town squares and recreation center activities aren’t for everyone.

It’s not just in the Villages, movie theaters are closing all across the country. Content producers are moving to the streaming platform to distribute their product. Many in our generation still prefer the traditional way to view a new release, but the reality is that we are no longer the target market, so out preferences have little influence on business decisions.

Would you be willing to invest your own money into the theater to open it back up?

if you really enjoy going to the movies, subscribe to Fantom Events. they have all kinds of movies in theaters CLOSE (maybe 10-15mi) to the villages. every month they do Classics from TCM, --some very good choices there.

May not be unfounded. I have a reliable source saying that the Dine and Drink Style Movie Theater refurb for the Rialto has been scrapped and that if apartments get built where Katie Belles was, the Rialto Apartments will soon follow.

Not sure about the other one, still closed. Time will tell.

i presume you meant "cant " instead of catch.
Going to see our favorite weeekly movies as children, teenagers, young and older adults was a weekly rite of passage for us. We socialized with other children from our own neighborhoods and the adjacent ones. Boys and girls met unchaperoned and started to acquire the social skills they would need in life. We all loved to be surrounded by hundreds of laughing and cheering kids sometimes crying, and peeking at horror scenes. Who didn't love the drive in movies.
Thats what we've lost, the chance to enjoy the company of strangers
and our fellow neighbors.
That is our loss.

We have been going to Epic in Ocala worth the drive. The Theater is beyond clean they have electric recliners and a bar. You get to pick your seats ahead of time. They have 2 sizes of screens so those action packed movies can been seen up close and personal.
We love the area the theater is in, we do some shopping and lunch after. When you go early there is hardly anyone there……can’t say enough good things about Epic

AMC at the Lake Square Mall In Leesburg is a much better experience for those of us who like the big screen experience. Join their AList membership and for $21.99 plus tax per month see up to three movies per week. Advanced reserved seating, all recliners, a bar is available, and some theaters have extra large screens.

I may be totally wrong but I thought I heard those treatments were not effective for the Omicron variant. No? The Brownwood theater is still open for those Covid treatments? I had no idea.

Love movie theaters, so last week saw The Lost City then upcoming will see Sonic2. Always great experience on big screen.

I saw West Side Story in the LSL theater and was very disappointed that it was not being shown on their largest screen. I went to Leesburg theater to see it a second time on a much larger screen. It was so much better on the larger screen. I then went to Ocala to see West Side Story for a third time on another very big screen.

I purchased the Blu-Ray of the movie but I know it will never be the same thrilling experience as in the movie theater. Home big screen TVs will never replace the movie theater experience.....for me.

Never too old to enjoy a drive in movie. They even have a radio station frequency to listen to the audio on your car stereo system. Much better than those speakers you had to hang from your car door.

Oh, those were the days. I saw "Some Like It Hot" in a drive in movie with my parents and my younger sister when it first was released. Love those memories.

Been to the one open theatre in the villages lately.

Have gone three times in the past year and never more than 20% or so occupancy.

There also have to be GOOD movies worth paying for. We were movie junkies pre-pandemic but there is rarely anything worth seeing these days.

I wish you had a chance to see the
AMC Lincoln Square theater
There is only one real IMAX screen in New York City, the AMC Lincoln Square theater. It's about a 600-person theater with a screen that's 80 feet high and 100 feet wide.

We went once and I believe it was for the release of one of The Batman Movies. Although the movie was great it was rough going into the city at that time. The Screen was truly unbelievable.

Thank you everyone. We really enjoy going to the movies. Sorry to see that two theaters have closed. Glad there is still one though.

We live in the Spanish Springs area and go to the AMC theatre in Leesburg 2-3 times a month. Like the big screen and great reclining seats. $12.00 for 2 on Tuesdays. Movies at home are good but it is our opinion that the big screen can not be beat. In these times it does not appear that theatres are not going to come back(my humble opinion)
