It's official. Tiger Woods will be playing in the 2022 Masters beginning tomorrow. Scarcely a year after suffering injuries that can take years to heal completely, if they ever do, Tiger is playing for his sixth Master's title and 16th major.
Like him or hate him, there's no denying that he's larger than life.

After both what he has been through and his age, I will be very impressed if he makes the cut. I’ll be rooting for him.

I do find watching golf very relaxing and helps me take a nap.

From a completely mercenary aspect, Tiger = viewers = attendance = DOLLARS. He's the same kind of draw for golf that Michael Jordan was to basketball or Babe Ruth to baseball. Even bigger. Before Tiger (and undoubtedly after Tiger as well) golf was and will be nothing but a niche sport with limited drawing power. WITH him, it gets the attention of the nation.

I was upset with him. I got over it because I have no firm ground to stand on. I wish him and his children the best.
I got a good look í ½í±€ at him this morning on the news, he’s getting OLD! It happens to the best of us. Lol.

Yep.
The young stallion might be favored, but it's the old war horse that gets the support of the crowd. Hard to think of Tiger in that context, but like the post said, it happens to all of us.

I am in a masters pool limited to 25 of us and only one entrance per. We each pick five players. I was totally shocked to see only one person picked Tiger as one of their five picks = 1 out of 125 picks. While a crowd favorite it's obvious by our pool the money is not on him.

Sorry, but…not denying Tiger as a great golfer…Arnie’s the guy who took golf from that niche sport status to being the fourth major sport. Arnie and his army.

Debatable. Arnie's army was mainly the white-collar crowd: well-to-do professionals who dabbled in the sport themselves.
Tiger is Everyman. In my opinion far more people can and do identify with Tiger than with the undeniably great Arnold Palmer.

Much of America, it seems.
There are those, in America as elsewhere, have expectations of sports heroes that transcend their roles. Tiger's fame rests on the fact that he is a Hall-of-Fame golfer. He's not being considered for sainthood.

Very true and Arnie did appear to have a higher moral code.

First round 71 (one under par, 3 strokes behind the current leader)... No visible "hitch in his git-along". Not bad for someone who "can't bend down"... :ohdear:

He just finished his round one under par and is currently in 9th place. That is absolutely amazing for a 46 year old playing his first competitive round since almost having his leg amputated over a year ago. Like him or hate him, his legend continues to grow.
