Ok my drive belt getting bad. I always liked gates belts. so found the part 24G3884 cross-reference to J55 belt.
It was tad bit longer and a lot stiffer. Hard to get on and even harder to get off. The cart had delay taking off which I did t like, which I contributed to tad longer and stiffer belt to get it on. So, installed another old belt till I get new J55-G6241-00 belt.
The gate belt worked fine except the longer than usual delay when at stop sign taking off, which I didn’t like.

I just ordered a Yamaha OEM belt from Buggies Unlimited. Willie’s did my annual service but is having a hard time getting these belts. I asked about getting one from Amazon, but he cautioned against anything other than OEM. For what its worth.

I just installed one of these (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07N4DGDPW?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details). Don't have enough miles on it yet to say anything about it.

The gates belt was heavy duty for UTVs. It did cross reference to my Yamaha golf cart. It worked but, it was stiffer and 1/2 or so longer to be able to install it I guess? had the initial delay from dead stop. I got J55 belt off Amazon for 20 bucks. So far it works good. Still chatting some when taking off, but hopefully it will be gone when get few hours on it?

This belt is still working great. I used brake cleaner on the clutch surfaces when I had the belt off so that may have helped too.

Bill, what is your opinion of how often to replace the drive belt in a cart? thanks

Not enough experience, this is the first one I've replaced.
For this one, I have about two years and 2,600 miles on it. I noticed it squeaking and when I measured the width it was down to 1 1/16 inch. Since it should have started at 1.2" (about 1 3/16") that means it had lost 1/8" off the width. This seemed like the right time to replace it.
I cleaned the clutch plates with brake cleaner. I didn't get much dust off but there was some. This helped the squeaking a bit even with the old belt (the new one was on order).
With the new belt I get a smoother start - not as much lurching as the engine rev's to initially engage the belt.

Yamaha with a JC0-G6241-01 drive belt with 22K miles and 6 years old. The width is still within spec and starts are still smooth.

Belt probably separating? My belt was fine for 10K miles and 5 years until I looked at it closely. Probably would lasted longer, but I didn’t want it to come apart at bad time.

LOT depends on how long belt will last. IMO it over 6 years old and lots of miles (heat induced) I’d inspect for dry rot. If engine rev up more than usually belt maybe be slipping?

Bill,
Ron from Toms River NJ here. The belts wear from side to sid/get narrower as they wear.
Measure the width of the belt. Yamaha says New: 31.0 mm (1.20 in.) Replace when belt reaches 27.0 mm (1.06 in.)

And you can’t just base replacement on width. You need to remove the belt and inspect it for separation.
