Is one of your springs broken?

This is usually a problem with the sensors. I have seen this at least 6 times at neighbors homes. The installers just twist the wires together at the sensors, and maybe some tape. The problem is that these connections fail over time. I replace these with a crimped comnnection. Take a look at the lights on the sensors, also most garage door openers will show a code (blinking LED or LEDs), you will need the instruction manual to decode, but this will tell you the problem. I am currently very busy with home projects, but if you have a friend that knows how to make crimped connections have these redone and see if it fixes your problem.

Also check to see if anything is obstructing the sensors.
It doesn't take much to interfere with them

Also could be as simple as one of the sensors being inadvertently bumped/bracket bent out of alignment.

Happened to me multiple times. The sensor got either bumped out of alignment, the wire came undone, dirty, or something is in its way.

Unlike some of the service companies Discount Garage Doors (DGD) is a dealer for the opener makers and equipped to repair instead of replace them.

I have problems closing the garage door when the afternoon sun is shining right directly onto the sensor. It closes but I need to consistently hold the button on the wall of the garage until the door is couple inches from the floor. I then walk out the golf cart door to leave. Always frustrating!

I called Precision Doors when my garage wouldn’t open. They replaced many parts, not inexpensive by any means (about $800). But the difference is night and day. The opener they provided is quiet without that sudden drop at the end. Instead is slows as it get to the floor and gently closes. They did a great job.

I recommend Ryan O'Cull, 352-207-5668. I’ve used him a few times and he’ll answer quickly and come out even on Sunday. Also reasonable priced.

For your situation, you can make a "shade" for your sensor.
Depending on the angle of the sun, it could be a simple piece of plastic glued/taped to the side of the sensor, or a tube....like a plastic cap from a spray bottle with the top removed, attached to it over the eye.
Apply glue, and use tape to hold it in place.
Tape by itself will probably get hot from the sun and not hold for very long.

Check the sensors at the bottom of each side , sometimes they go out of line which will not allow the door to close.

You could have gotten a new garage door opener, including labor for about $450.

Does the light blink 5 times? If so, the opener thinks that the door is blocked.

Look at the two side sensors and see if their LED lights are on or if any wires got disconnected....anything beyond that may require a service tech....never mess with the springs

Happened to me but only in the morning. Turned out it was the sun hitting the sensor at the bottom.
