View Full Version : BJ's Wholesale Club - Still About 6 Weeks Away

The parking lot and the gas station pumps look to be finished. The inside is about 90% completed. I would guess were about 6 weeks from a Grand Opening for BJ's Wholesale Club on 441.

Anyone know what they charge per year to shop in their store ?
Right now $ 25 per year but that is a special. If you buy it now the year starts immediately which had me say thank you will be back.
Last week when I went there the clerk said May but did not know when in May.

The regular membership is $55 per year. You can sign up now for $25 for the first year. Once you get your membership card, you can then remove your credit card number from their system and they won't automatically charge it when it's time for renewal (or you can keep it in the system and you'll automatically be charged next year).

Just curious what BJ’s offers that Sam’s doesn’t? You must be sold on it to drive that far when old Sam’s is right here:popcorn:

For some of us it's closer...and a golf cart ride. I'll be happy to visit BJ's since Sam's requires an auto to get there and I much prefer driving my golf cart.

I checked prices on stuff that we normally buy and for us, the prices were a mixed bag: some were higher at bj’s and some were higher at sams. I hate going up to 441 to shop so we buy everything and have it shipped so we pay the extra $40 a year at sams and get free shipping

OK but that is not what they told me last week. Said it starts immediately and encouraged me to go to other stores already opened.
If it would have started upon opening would have immediately joined.

Deli (land of lakes), milk, eggs, and packaged sausages, and just knowing prices of what other stores charge. Some are good prices and some are not. Mostly good lower prices.

Says right on the offer online: "The clock won’t start ticking on your membership until the Lady Lake club opens – but you can start shopping right away on BJs.com or at any BJ’s location." Normal price = $55/year or about $1/wk
Current promotion = $25 or about 25 weeks
Looks like about 5 weeks to opening
If the website is correct: pay for 25 weeks, get 57 weeks = 32 free weeks
If customer service is correct: pay for 25 weeks, get 52 weeks = 27 free weeks
If the promotion ends the day the store opens: pay for 52 weeks, get 52 weeks = 0 free weeks.
The only way you lose is if you gamble that the promotion will continue after the store opens but it doesn't.

It looks like most items are advertised as free shipping, but it depends on the item. You can also have items shipped to the store for pickup.

coming from the Northeast, we always shopped BJ's...there were few Sam's and Costco stores.
we really liked the smaller portions that they offered, compared to Costco....and we especially liked the meat selections

May 11th is the target date for opening, but could be delayed due to many variables. Expect the first couple of weeks to be unbelievably crowded.

What ever they are giving away free, will draw crowds before 4am.
Best thing, wawa’s will have your lattes and breakfast while you stand in line.
I am confused, so many won’t shop at Costco and Sam’s due to “I don’t need 5gallons of Duke’s” But will join BJs.
Have used a free BJs membership stopping twice. As I scanned items on my app, that I would normally buy, prices were close to other shopping, or in some cases higher.
Deli had a good selection, but I found the cost for rare roast beef pricey than other stores.
Still on the fence on joining, Costco is my first choice, Sams because they carry some items Costco doesn’t. Any BJ’s that is close to me outside of TV is within 5 minutes from a Base. Kind of defeats the purpose of joining, Nobody can beat the prices at the commissary, and their deli’s are outstanding.
No worries, after BJs open there will be a 3 month free offer down the road.

Check on the Bj's Mastercard when you sign up. Up North they had a promotion going. $0.50 off per gallon of Bj's gas for 3 months using the Bj's charge card. SAMs charge card give 5% rebate any gas station anywhere anytime.

Based on how often we need to buy gas for our cars and an average fill up (we never let the tank get empty), we'd probably save around $60 in gas by being a member. Since the regular membership fee is $55, we'd only save $5. However, that's only if we had their credit card - which we don't have. So we pay only 40 cents less per gallon rather than 50 cents less per gallon, netting us a loss rather than a savings overall.
This year membership was $25. So we'll save just on gas alone. It's absolutely worth that savings to us since their gas station is only a few blocks from the house.

I like cutting BJs coupons and then going on a treasure hunt in the store as they move items around to keep you on your toes.
I know coupons are a “marketing tool” and they draw people into their store or on-line. BTW my wife loves to do exactly what your plan is for the day. I don’t care for coupons and would prefer not to have them at all as they waste time. Coupons waste a lot of time for the retail clerks and the people in line behind the person with a lot of them to process. Oh, and the process takes much longer when a couple of the coupons are outdated. I’m thinking to myself why can’t the store just sell for the lowest possible price instead of all that wasted time. That said, patience is a virtue and I did have a couple of marketing courses and I do understand the idea behind all those coupons $$$$$$!
As you get older, the questions come down to about two. How long? And what to do with the time I have left? I guess some like coupons and others would rather spend their time doing something else. Fore!

We got a Membership for FREE for a year. We also just came back from straightening out a small goof up from a new BJ'S employee. They were supposed to credit our account for every gallon we bought instead they charged us 75 cents per gallon and wrote and signed credit on the receipt.
They are very kind under the circumstances, everyone being new. They were very polite and professional and we really appreciate that. The reality is, that it won't last more than 90 days like that and the Seafood Freezer must have gone bad overnight. It was rough in the store today. Smelled like Deadliest Catch. P-U!
All in all, we are thrilled that the store is there. I wish it was a Costco so I could see what all the Hub Bub is about. Just grateful for the convenience. One more thing, Sam's did do some nice things for us Customer Service Wise over the years but the bottom line is that their screw-ups were way bigger than the nice things they did. Goodbye Sams. BJ'S has Poland Spring Water!

One problem with a pharmacy is that you cannot require a membership fee to use the pharmacy. Sam's has a pharmacy, but anyone can come in and use it.
