My garage floor is just unfinished concrete. Would I be better to seal the concrete, or cover with something like "RaceDeck" or "Black Dog", or just leave it as it is?

Depends on how you use your garage?

Just to add an option, one of the model homes had exterior carpet squares in the garage.

If you decide to coat it, make sure the final coating has a friction additive like 'shark grip' or you will probably have a very slippery surface when wet. Also, do not make the mistake I did, I used a sealer (H&C clear) with the shark grip, did it myself, and the results were fine UNTIL, I got some gasoline on it. My point, make sure what ever you decide on will stand up to automotive fluids, as well as whatever else you plan to do in the garage.

Great advice.
I would decide on something because bare concrete is hard to clean.

I did my garage floor with Racedeck flow-through tiles in black, gray and royal blue and it looks awesome (everyone seems to top by to look at it, even the UPS guy). Easy to clean (just wash dirt out with garden hose, flows underneath it) and they make the garage really gorgeous. Worth the money!

Eagle Supreme Seal with silica sand worked for me… looks like glass without the slip & fall lawsuit!

I just installed 2'x2' Indoor/Outdoor peel-n-stick carpet squares from Costco.com and love it. 3 car with '2 stretch cost me 1300 installed. Can be pressure washed too.

Is there someone that installs this? If you don't mind what is a ballpark price?

Sometimes a garage is just a garage , I’ve had a lot of beautiful homes , I’ve never done anything to the garage , because I never do anything but park there and when I sell every 3 or 4 years no buyer has ever said , oh you have a lovely home but you didn’t paint the garage floor ,so we won’t buy your house

Plain old concrete good enough for me, not like I’m camping out in there.:)

We found the bare concrete brings a white concrete dust into the house. We had garage floors in 2 house coated with epoxy garage coating and it looks real good, isn't slippery, reasonable cost, holds up well with car fluids (Classic car so I test it) and no concrete dusk. Its also easy to sweep or sponge/mop dry after bringing your car in from the many rain storms. Very pleased with it. In my case I clearly wouldn't go with a carpet due to water and car fluids, and have thought some about the fancy black and white garage floor squares that look great, but the Epoxy seemed to have more +s for us.

It's a garage, not your living room. Real men don't give a darn about the floor.

Still looking for advice on who to hire and what to use to finish the garage floor. I'm not interested in leaving it plain concrete.

Have always sealed our garage floor with a PVA/water coating. Works well and stops cement dust forming.
Have always left it as plain cement. It's a garage!

Before moving in I had mine painted and epoxied with flake. It looks great, is not slippery, and does not soak up oil. I do a lot of work on my cars and motorcycles and it really helps with clean up.

I had a fuel valve fail on an old carbuterated motorcycle. A large gas puddle laid on the epoxy for 3 days while we traveled. It did not leave a mark. Similarly one of my old vehicles drips a little oil. It cleans up with one swip of a rag and leaves no marks.

Anyone considering an epoxy floor can send me a personal message and come see my floor.

I epoxied the floor in our garage in New England. The house we bought in the villages already had it done. Doing it yourself is not really difficult. It's all about the prep work and materials. You have to do a good job of cleaning the floor with either muriatic acid or rent a concrete grinder from Home Depot. As far as materials go, I would go online to originalcolorchips.com and pick the base and color chips (and additive to give the floor some grip). They will send the whole kit to you, including the acid if you want it. You can either do it yourself or hire a handyman. To me that is the much cheaper alternative to the racetrack floor or hiring a flooring contractor.

Thank you. I'm looking for recommendations now for someone to seal the floor now.
