Have to go to eye Dr and get eyes dilated. Takes hrs in Dr so don't like asking anyone to wait for me. Has anyone tried a Uber? Am a little nervous about trying it, being in car with a stranger?

If your so (unnecessarily) concerned just call your friend when you're done to come back and get you. You've never been in a Taxi before? If so, what would the difference be? If not, never mind! :)

Does your Villae have a volunteer group called Caring Neighbors? I have been using my Village group for the past month and they have been excellent, only two days I could not get a ride. Wonderful idea started by United Way to help people who can no longer drive get around.

Worried about being in a car with a stranger? Guess you lived in The town of hayseed in the state of bumscrew.

Never hailed a cab in a city? Never got picked up in a limo?

In general there is no concern with taking an Uber. Have used them in many cities both in Florida and up the east coast. They will tell you the type of car and plate number, just make sure that is the car that you get into and you'll be fine.

Only problem I've seen with Uber around here is the price. Whether we are a captive market or there just aren't many drivers, the price is pretty high in the Villages.

I don't think this website is very nice. Rude people on here with scarcastic answers. Of course I've been in a taxi and limo about 40 yrs ago with other friends or husband not a 75 yr old woman alone also my Dr takes 2 to 3 hrs before u leave office and because I have 2 detached retinas,. no I cannot see in 45 minutes. Why bother posting here. The scarcastic remarks are downright RUDE

I've used Uber without any issues (but only when we were traveling and didn't have a car). the drivers are always respectful...you should be okay

You did helpful advise and suggestions.

We have used ubers elsewhere and found them safe and convenient just do not know how easy it is here to book an uber. And the cars are typically very up to date and drivers even offer water.

Uber is even more safe then cabs , which my mother was taking alone in Boston and Miami bBeach well into her 90’s alone . The only problem I see with Uber is there hard to get here and slow pickup time ,but that’s not there fault , there isn’t much demand here , so there mostly at there homes, not like in a big city where they arrive in minutes

I drove home after waiting 45 minutes at Lake Eye this past friday. I probably could have driven immediately but figured I would listen to the Dr. and wait. I would try to get a neighbor or something other than a Taxi. Just not feeling the Uber, Lyft, Taxi thing anymore.

Wish we could help you out.

I’ve used both LYFT and UBER here in TV. Most drivers work for both companies at the same time and most drivers are Village residents. I’ve always felt safe and welcome.

Yes both Uber and Lyft are fine and perfectly safe here. Also, you can schedule your rides in advance.

I vehemently object to your insulting remarks about those that have not visited the cesspools called cities.
What life skills are obtained from hailing a cab or riding a limo?
I have done both in most continents of the world many times and I never found it to be a necessary trait.
Knowing how to change your own tire, creating a fire, finding fresh water or growing your own food like a “country bumpkin” are all much better to know than your trifled reliance on another individual for personal needs.
Take your rotten decaying, blood sucking cities and wall them up.

Agree. A lot of people who used to be regulars now are posting less and less. The site is not well monitored to allow the jerks to take over.

I agree. If you can’t give a helpful answer and be nice don’t respond. A lot of people haven’t used taxis or Ubers and it’s a little frightening not knowing what to expect. Not everyone has lived in a city or needed these services before. If you can’t say something nice, just not say anything at all.

After reading the various uncaring comments, it made me wonder why anyone needs to downplay your concerns? Please forgive them as they’ve missed an opportunity to show compassion. An Uber is an option. You’ll get the driver’s information (name and license #) sent with your confirmation. Just make sure that they match.

Check with your health insurance provider, almost all provide rides to and from doctors, they use Lyft mostly. Depending on where you live in TV Lyft is easier to get than Uber.

Last summer my friends used Uber from the Village of Buttonwood to the trailer park across from the American Legion on Rolling Acres. The cost was $47.00!
The driver said he was the only one working the Villages. Unless it has changed they are way to expensive.

By chance, if you have a MediCare Advantage policy, check to see if there is a transportation benefit.

Many policies have a limited number of round trip benefits for non-emergency medical appointments.

If your doesn’t, remember that starting October 15th the Annual Enrollment Period for MediCare starts. This gives everyone of MediCare age the ability to review their policy and make changes, if desired.

There are 9 companies that offer MediCare Advantage policies in Lake, Marion & Sumter.

I would recommend seeking out an independent broker.

Uber is terrific! Put the app on your phone so you can see exactly who is coming. You can share it with others if it makes you feel better. You’ll be fine!

I have used Lyft often on the Villages. Uber is also available, and many drivers are affiliated with both. I have never had a problem - drivers polite and friendly. Relax, and good luck with your appointment!

I have this done once a year. Has never taken 2-3 hours for me. I have an exam, get the drops, wait about 10 minutes, they take a look and I am on my way. The make sure I have sunglasses and I drive home. I have never used Uber or any of those services, would rather take a cab which we do when we travel. I would guess most friends would be willing to pick you up.

Get the village to have community travel van for their residence that would be the best way to travel to doctors appointments like a lot of senior communities have because their citizen cannot dive which is one of the most important thing to have as appositive selling point. To me golf is just as important as getting around if you can not drive.

The reversing drops are no longer being manufactured so most if not all providers no longer use them.

I agree with the RUDE comments posting. If you don’t have any advice to give don’t say anything. The rude advice is probably coming from a new villager. Before all this new influx such remarks would never be made. Have received helpful information regarding honest queries in years past. Have you heard the Villages called America’s Friendliest Home Town???
