View Full Version : Near Death Experience's

It appears that Spanish Springs is allegedly going through another "Near Death Experience". The threat of making Katie Bells a set of cash cow apartments, the lack of advising the plan(s) for the theater. The closing down of parking in the area of the Square for non approved cars/carts, etc not associated with the apartments. How we remember the sales pitch to get us to move here..The daily fun available at Katie Bells, the many Theater's available, the great free golf courses available at no charge the open air market's and many more promises. Thank goodness for a group of concerned residents who are carrying the banner to save this threat from being another victim of the disregard of values. It goes back to the age old statement, "When is enough, enough"?? It is still an open question as to how much money will be thrown at getting this from near death to finally lost??:ohdear:

Thank goodness you started yet another thread on this topic, rather than add to any of the several others saying the very same thing!

It was the village sales rep saying this stuff in order to get people to move here.

Did they speak with forked tongues? Asking for a friend.

I thought the OP almost crossed over, and then brought back to life. Doesn’t near death, mean seeing the light, and then snatched back?

Maybe someone could start another thread about the square because 4 might get attention :clap2:

You keep taking about the sales pitch and promises made. Did the Villages use to bring in big groups and put them in a dark room with no AC and promise everything until you signed something. Did they keep you for hours or days? I wasn’t promised anything and had no sales pitch. I was told what existed for the most part at the time and was allowed to look at houses until we decided to buy one. All I really need to know is that I owe the house I bought. We went to Katie Belles once, the food was ok and the show was ok but I have not missed it.

1) You are correct, it was a SALES PITCH.

2) They were describing the current state of TV, not promising FOREVER.

Wow...............how people think and feel entitled based on their misunderstanding.

This would be entertaining if I didn't feel sad for the mental health of these people.

Unfortunately it seems that sooner or later they will find something you enjoy to close, change or in someway modify that will change your understanding of what you purchased. Hacienda has no restaurant. Pool or bar. Two movie theaters are currently closed. Fees are being adjusted that negatively impact many residents benefit the developer.

Your day will come.

You can always move. I don't think anyone is keeping you from taking your negative comments elsewhere. Change occurs either learn to live with it or remain stuck in the past that you believe was great.

I believe that Spanish Springs will continue to be Spanish Springs only if residents support the businesses and restaurants there with their dollars. Apartments will not go well if Spanish Springs businesses close and entertainment ceases. Age restricted apartments will do well if entertainment continues and if the squares businesses can survive. Why would anyone rent an apartment their if the square ceases to exist?

Where did everyone get the idea that The Villages is some kind of Utopia? It’s just a nice place to live and like everyplace else continues to evolve. Most of the population here now never knew Harold Schwartz.

Ha, I too thought that I'd read something about that tunnel of light

instead, it was just another villager cranking about change

disappointing

Our sales rep showed us homes, a couple of the existing squares and rec centers. I don't recall any sort of promises about the future ..

If a business does not make money it closes. Katie bells must not have been making money, so it closed. I had been there a couple of times, nothing special. So how is the Spanish Spring square going to “close” when there is so much going on up there? And how is turning the old Katie bells into apartments changing anything? I do believe that their parking should be behind the apartments and not on the street.

But one thing that never dies is the use of apostrophes to make plural nouns.

or perhaps...

One thing that never die's is the use of apostrophe's to make plural noun's.

Sometimes people don't [a contraction for do not thus needing an apostrophe] recall exactly what they were told. I'm [another contraction] certain that their elementary school teacher stressed correct use of an apostrophe at least as vigorously as the Villages' [the apostrophe is used for possession in a plural noun] salesperson promised Katie would never die.

Sorry I've highjacked the thread. I sure hope there are others where people can vent about Katie Belle's closure and seven parking spaces.

Thanks for the English lesson and back to our regularly scheduled discussion of changes here and what they did and did not promise us before we moved here.

Sure hope they complete those apartments soon. The Morse grandchildren are hurting. Its a useless space right now, why not let them use it. They own it dont they. How in the world does that contingency hurt any of us???

Taking up parking spaces is a non-issue. What is the difference between having 45 apartments or 45 second floor professional offices or retail stores? Apartments would probably use up less spaces than commercial.

When I look at the number of comments in this stream of responses I am reminded there
was an overflow number of residents at the meeting to determine if LADY LAKE would approve apartments in the Katte Belle building. The vast number of residents who attended were strongly against the use of the property for that purpose. Now I read a few who responded to the OP's input. Here the majority either support the use for apartments or provide "snide" remarks as in an attempt to support the concept. The question is who are these alleged developer supporters. The point is there is no filter regardiing who writes in to TOTV as it should be but when digesting the write in's it is key to consider what is the motivation to go against th majority and who may be driving that position.

The developer has a tremendous amount of power. How is it possible that our delegate in the Florida legislature is an employee of the developer and makes over 300,000 per year from his employment. Does anyone think he is not owned by the developer?

Probably the same reason they rent apartments all over the world with no square next to them...

You are on to something here. Many of the frequent posters on TOTV are supporters of the developer. They come out to mock or criticize anyone who does not follow their point of view. There are many Villagers who support the OP’s view. There is nothing wrong with a group of posters drowning out dissent with 20,000 or 25,000 posts, but the rest of us should be aware what they doing. Thanks for your analysis.

As Henryk used to say “if you are a hammer everything looks like a nail”. It is not a matter of being a developer supporter, it is a matter of being a more recent (younger) resident who has never been to Katie Belles and does not view change as catastrophic.

Some of us try to be objective. The Morse family has done a fantastic job in building this place but some of the things going on now are not in the best interest of the residents and if we think that way why not comment?

Change is inevitable, and it is the developer's prerogative to make changes, but why do all the changes the developer makes have to negatively impact those of us who bought into the utopia he was selling? Seems like a little bate and switch here. Back when Schwartz was alive, there were only two mouths to feed. Three generations later there are multiple mouths, thus the need for each generation to be greedier than the last.
