to begin to discuss the issues facing this country.

I hope that the Republican congress will make good on Obama's promise that he, for some reason could not, and have an open discussion about health care on national television for all of us to hear having both sides represented at all time and no closed door discussions.

Before repeal, let us dissect what this WH and congress passed and finally share it with us...all of it.

Just a suggestion

oh, bucco...i wish john boehner could read your post! i so fear that all we will get from him is another arrogant attitude! and i am so sick and tired of attitude, arrogance, braggadocio, etc from reid, pelosi, obama, mcconnell, etc! they all talk so much that they can't hear the pleas of the people! alas, another cycle of hope!

I sure hope not....this government has been totally out of control for two years. Republicans need not get a big head over tonight...as Rubio said in his acceptance speech, and this is a paraphras...this is not a annointing of the Republicans but a second chance.

The Republicans better step up and the President has to step up. I sincerely believe that we need an REAL OPEN TRANSPARENT attempt at health care COST REDUCTION, as this current bill does not even address costs AT ALL !

One theory going around is that winning the House will assure Obama's re-election in 2012 because they will, with their swelled heads, try to lead a charge and come off as arrogant and "business as usual".

Does anyone actually believe the election-day rhetoric of "changing the way Washington works"?

If the GOP leads the charge with "tax cuts for the rich" and "protecting marriage" and other wedge issues, they'll lose in 2012.

If, as an example, they come up with a cogent plan for balancing the budget that involves SHARED SACRIFICE - because Americans WILL sacrifice *if* they believe everyone is being asked to contribute - they'll storm to power in 2012. When they campaign on specifics, like the Contract for America, they can really get that message out in a good manner.

I think there is way too much analyzing in my opinion. I think people just voted their pocketbook and their fear of losing their jobs.

Watch the jobs come rolling back, fix the faulty legislation from the last two years and the Senate will fall in 2012, too.

And exactly how is Washington going to create jobs? Does *anyone* think that, with a Democrat Senate and GOP House that they'll suddenly come together and sing Kum-bay-ya?

It'll be paralysis, just like 1994 - and that might well be a GOOD thing as America figures out how to prosper under the current rules without Washington changing them - just like 1994.

Well, you went a different way that the original idea was !

I just HOPED that perhaps we could get an airing IN PUBLIC of what is in the current health bill as the President promised but did not do. I just HOPE there could be an airing of how this will be paid for PUBLICLY !

And further hope that perhaps we could actually address health care COSTS which the current bill just totally ignored !

Gridlock is a gooooood thing!, in fact it would be a blessing if the Congress only met for a day or 2 every few months and for a short time, the more those bozo's meet, the more taxes and regulation of the masses falls on us.

on the Obama promises.
And for lack of delivery he, Pelosi and Reid lead the cause for last nights results.

The Republicans now should be viewing this turn over as their last gasp. As a result they must make good on their promises.

If they do not 2012 will not default back to the Democrats. I think there will be the re-birthing of an alternate to the Democrats or Republicans.

Generating programs that will result in jobs can be a no brainer if the attitudes toward making it happen parallel JFK's announcement of putting a man on the moon.

The objective of energy independence is frought with opportunity to create jobs...wind mill development and manufacturing... increasing the number of nuclear facilities...increased drilling within the US boundary...increase drilling off shore...and so on.

Provide incentives to companies to bring manufacturing back to the US...make them compete with foreign manufacturers (no unions!!).

If we the people do our job and harass our representatives...they will have to move in the direction to benefit the constituency or they will not get re-elected.

There is potential for a revolution.....yes.....DO SOMETHING that matters resulting in the improvements needed to create jobs. Everything else will fall in place.

There is also one other very important ingredient that just has to change....partisan politics/game playing.

The potential to make a difference is greater than the potential for failure....in my opinion.

Conservatism, like abstinence, works every time it's tried.

The pundits predicted the "do nothing" Republicans were sealing their minority status. Look how that prediction panned out.

Wake up and smell the coffee as they used to say.

If I can, waddle back to the original premise of this thread.

Does nobody but me want the health care situation reopened for PUBLIC debate without the backroom deals ?

The President said it would be open and transparent and he lied. The speaker said we would like it when we read it.

I would love to hear it OPENLY discussed especially what controls will there be on health costs...which was SUPPOSED to be the whole idea. Especially because most americans were opposed to it while the President made his back room deals to get it passed. Especially because the funding is a lot of MAYBES and BORROWS.

You know, every so often the liberals get all the power...they pass stuff that become entitlements....they get voted out because they did it, but the stuff remains on the books. Lets get this open NOW to discuss.

Notice, I said LIBERALS, not Democrats !

I would really appreciate an honest, open discussion about what the Affordable Care Act means. Since this historic piece of legislation was passed March 23, 2010, I have read the 2000 plus pages. I am still waiting for someone in authority to explain exactly what it means.

I don't want it randomly thrown away. I realize what went into getting this passed. I would just like to really understand what exactly got passed.

I don't think anyone understands all of it. There's just too much of it. If it was as good as it was supposed to be, Democrats should have had no problem using it in their campaigns (the same is true of financial reform).

Add to that the fact that pieces of it kick in slowly over the next 4 years - so it's not like you can point to "cause and effect" now for those aspects of it and you have a law that is still more of a question mark than anything else. One thing that people ARE clear on is that the 'public option' didn't make it. So you'll have people who wanted that being disappointed (since they tend to believe that was what was needed for TRUE reform) and the people who DON'T want it are unhappy becuase of what WAS in the bill and the THREAT that a 'fix' *will* include it.

Amen. Businesses will start hiring when they feel that the government will not impose undue hardships on them. Government cannot create jobs, it can only redistribute money that we pay in taxes. Business is scared of Obamacare and other anti-business legislation.

health repairs. Fix that which is not working or working poorly, including fraud prosecution and avoidance.

Then let there be a completely separate agenda leading to a proposal for the so called uninsured millions.

Of course each new proposal of all the above must have cost and funding defined. No increase in taxes allowed. No reduction in services or quality of care.

Most people still do not understand the long term debt built into the existing Obama health care reform charade.
Way too many people do not understand there will be a reduction of coverage for all. An increase in cost for all.
There is a basic fundamental that should be tell tale. Adding upwards to 30,000,000 more to the health care system.....WITH NO INCREASE IN FACILITIES, EQUIPMENT OR PERSONNEL!!!!! Just how would that work.

Programs of smaller increments that can be fully defined and understood.
Down with the huge and complicated. And of course hopefully we have done away with the likes of Pelosi's completely stupid approach "...let's pass this bill so we can see what is in it...".

Repeal the current reform and start over. So what if it takes 20 more years. We aren't doing anything about the future energy shock that is coming and that will be more than 20 years to fix.

Here is the problem !

It is law....it would take both the house and the senate to pass a repeal along with the President's signature.

BUT.....AND THIS SEEMS TOTALLY LOST ON THOSE WHO POST HERE IN SUPPORT OF THIS JOKE OF A BILL....NO Democrats ran upon his support for this bill...almost all who supported it were beaten..the 1 Republican who supported it lost. This bill, and this bill alone can be the death knell of this party in 2012.

There needs to be some brain storming to do something to stop this...perhaps the Supreme Court will wipe out some. The tentacles of this unreal piece of garbage is already heading into our economy.

I know the house can support a repeal.....based on what is happening, perhaps the senate can pass a repeal. What then does our President do when this hits his desk....knowing that most americans do not want it...both legislative bodies want it repealed...and it was conceived in back rooms with payoffs and such. Does he simply tell us how HE is correct and the rest of the country is stupid ?

Yes, Mr, President...to use a word you used yesterday, this has to be "relitigated" and NOW.

The WH will spend the next two years yelling how the other party is just saying no, when in fact it will take two years just to unburden this piece of garbage and he can fight the entire country for the next two years !

PS: And in reading a number of articles from the capitol today, there WILL BE SUBPOENA'S on this piece of legislature which will further enable the WH to call foul and the Republicans uncooperative, but before it starts remember none of this would have happened had the President done what he promised and not played hard core politics

First, the Health Care bill will not be repealed. Unfortunately, it might be homogenized even more than it was. I, personally, think it should have included a public option. And unfortunately, some of it doesn't even kick in until 2014.

Second, let's apply the same time limits that you all did on President Obama to the new Republican power people. Let's start two days after they've been in office and start saying "What have they done yet??? Then 10 days... "What have they done yet... Then one month, two months, three... I think you get my drift. Ultimately we'll see what jobs they will create -- I haven't heard any specifics from the Republicans AT ALL! The Pledge to America was just a literary piece of fluff. NO SPECIFICS! Time will tell, my friends, time will tell.

OK gang, let's watch the clock as it ticks away.... tick... tick... tick... we'll be waiting........ and watching.... tick... tick.... tick... :loco:

The GOP win in the House doesn't give them a majority. The Dems still have a two-thirds majority. The Senate and the White House.

I'm anticipating the new congress to start doing things that will make the liberals and their media allies heads explode. Even more, as more and more of the liberal members of congress gravitate to the center to facilitate re-election as a reaction to the new political reality, the Democrat base will free fall into a heavy depression. I should buy some stock in pharmaceuticals.
One more thing; take a look at who's governing state by state. The GOP will have much to say in districting, further frustrating the Democrats in the next cycle. The Republican's just have to stay on message and not fall back into their habit of trying to get along, which that gave rise to the Tea Party in the first place, and gave them these historic mid-term wins and we can start to return to nation we were meant to be, and not the third-world european model which Obama was fabricating.

Wasn't it someone right here that said about a year and a half ago the Republican party was dead? Or was it Conservatisom? Hum... looks pretty alive to me.

Obama will surly veto a repeal but that's doesn't keep the House from defunding it which they can. Over that, we are headed for a government shutdown... which will be a good thing. The longer the better.

I'll tell you, for a party of no, a lot of people sure voted yes. When you look at federal, state and local governments, the Democrats got wiped out. Time to finish the job in 2012.

It's easy to say NO, my friends, it's the solutions that are hard. If the Republicans continue to sit on their hands and sit on the sidelines, the pendulum will swing in the other direction in 2012 for sure. This last election is possibly the best thing that could have happened for President Obama.

A group has already formed and starting writing and emailing John Boehner's office simply saying "OK, where is my job?" I love it!

Gridlock is the best thing that could happen. Small business and local government can and has made this country great. Failure has been the result every time Big or Centralized government has expanded.

Obama is everything that America is not about.

With all due respect CHELSEA....the Republicans did not SIT on the side but were PUSHED to the side. The health bill was done behind closed doors if you recall. The only input was the day that Obama put on the dog and pony show and gave some lip service. The stimulus was not even read by Democrats so not sure how the Republicans sat on the sidelines.

This election, while certainly and for sure jobs were an issue, you just dont get it as does not the President. If you actually READ the exit polling and look at the polling before the election, the health care bill was a HUGE BIG issue...most americans want it flat out repealed and something done to address COSTS, which the bill does not even TRY to address and which the President campaigned on. THAT has to happen.

Also, if you read and pay attention, the entire agenda is up to be stopped because that is what the american folks want.

Sit on their hands? I don't think so. Create jobs; that's your socialist fantasy Chelsea that already failed miserably. What the Republicans will do is recreate the climate for the growth of jobs in the private sector, or as the great Ronald Reagan said, just get out of the way.

We'll just ignore the liberal bomb throwers for a while and laugh at their pathetic letters (who do you think would write such crap?)
The only way for the Republicans to fail is to forget why we handed the Democrats their biggest defeat in 50 years. I'm hoping they've learned their lesson and begin to cut the taxes and relax the regulations and create the business friendly environment that will spur the country to massive growth.

Would these be the same "job growth" Republicans that oversaw us exporting our jobs to India and China?

Not saying the Democrats are much better, if at all - but why should I believe the GOP is better? It's generally acknowleged that they are (for better or worse) more "pro-corporation. Given that, since a corporation acts more as a slave to the next quarter's bottom line than ever, cheaper job outsourcing is good for that bottom line.

I'm being sincere here - what will the GOP do to do the equivalent of diverting those dollars from the stockholders to new employees?

Your point is well taken DJPLONG ! While I am a very avid anti Obama, Pelosi guy, I am not a big party guy.

The one thing that has bothered me about the Tea Party movement has been the lack of answers. The new Republicans will need to come up with something definitive to answer the problems of the country.

Of course, from my point of view, the Health Care mess is at the top of the list, but we all know that will tie everyone up for some time. Not sure how much the government can do to create jobs other than insure that companies have whatever they need to want to create them IN THE USA.

Not an easy task to compete in labor related industries when you're competing with countries with no labor laws, no environmental laws and a work force that is consigned to living in abject poverty.

That being said, the government can do much in the way of tax breaks for companies that keep jobs here and additional tax breaks if they purchase their supplies and goods necessary for their business from companies that have done the same. All government contracts should be first directed to these companies that fulfill this business model.

Regulations on businesses have to be scaled back, with an eye on protecting our vital resources, but with the purpose of not adding years of litigation and astronomical costs to the creation and expansion of business.

All you have to do is notice how some states have enhanced their business climate at the expense of the states that have raised business taxes and enacted onerous business regulations to see the value of creating an environment of business growth on a massive scale.
