I've been going to stop at the Donut King in Leesburg (Southern part on Rte 27) for a long time; i.e. years, but never did until the other day. I was stunned by the huge variety of donuts and pastries available. I've never seen anything like it before. It's worth checking into it if you like donuts and pastries. I wish I had stopped there before.

A little out of the but definitely beats DD.
Obviously not golf cart accessible there's another store farther south on 27 closer to Minneola

And still well-stocked in the afternoon, great variety.

Great huge fritters (apple, , blueberry, etc.), and their cronut is my favorite donut of all time. It's half donut and half croissant

The Bear Claw is the best. Just so you know The Weight Watchers Police are hiding across the street in the bushes, waiting to Rat you out to your spouse! I know first hand. :icon_hungry: :1rotfl: :1rotfl: :police: I've been busted!!!!

Most anything is better than DD nowadays. Remember back in the day when each DD store made there own donuts and they were good, this was 40-45 years ago. I wish there was a good shop in the Villages.

And the variety offered at DD seems to keep getting less and less. Management seems to be destroying a great company

Well partners oh, I guess the big secret is out that if you go out of the bubble there's plenty of the world to see. Oh, don't tell too many people as I hear when you get a horde of villages they descend upon a place and ruin everything for everybody else

DD is trash
They never have any donuts, let alone a variety!
It seems strange to me that a business who is selling out of products wouldn’t make more??
More products = more money
Wouldn’t you want to make more money?

I agree with many of the comments about DD not being the same. This changed years back when the DD bakers went on strike and forced DD to make donuts through its regional warehouses; never the same. Now the newer method is to freeze the product until it comes to a shop and use a special oven to bring the donuts to its end product. My wife and I owned a small donuts shop back in Massachusetts and we had one of the original DD bakers and wow those donuts were unbelievable. Will definitely try a Donut King donut

The Minneola store is the "home office" on 27 a few miles north of FL 50. This store is open 24/7/365 and has a wider assortment.

Went to DD in Brownwood this past weekend. The first three things I asked for were either no longer being offered or out of stock. Also, the beverage cooler was empty. No milk, juice, etc. My business is also no longer being offered.

Wow assuming this is a franchise would think DD would watch over their franchisees as this is a reflection on the company

From their Facebook page: "Mad Batter Bakery February 3, 2021
Dear Mad Batter Buddies, It is with a heavy heart that our Bakery will no longer be open. We are sorry, thou things started looking up for us, it just didn't happen soon enough, Unfortunately we were not making enough money in our store to stay open."

After reading these posts, I stopped by on the way home from work in Leesburg. Small store -- I missed it the first time and had to round the block. The worker was pleasant and the selection was large -- 20+ donuts, plus others in front counter.
I selected a dozen and even at 6 pm, they were fresh -- they probably won't be by the time I finish them.
My favorite, so far, is the Fruity Pebble donut. The frosting compliments the cereal and was pleasantly surprised.
My wife liked the buttercream filled glazed.
I will probably pick some up for the office sometime soon.

Used to go to a factory store and periodically would come out and just give them to customers. They are great just out of the frier.

Stopped at Donut King yesterday late afternoon. Still a decent variety left. The worker told me they honor DD paper coupons there! They are open 5am to 8pm in Leesburg and 24/7 in their other locations. They are also open EVERY day ALL YEAR except Christmas. They cook everything at the store so they are fresh. They are VERY GOOD!!!

Agree. Can not believe that there is not a non-chain high quality donut shop in TV. Bet that low carb diet plans killed this business. DD has definitely gone down hill. Publix sells better doughnuts. In todays environment(lack of low skilled workers) seems that nobody would try to open a good donut shop.

Problem is what do you do with leftovers at the end of the day? Lots of dollars tossed.
