View Full Version : Neighbor Abusing Trash Pickup

A family on our street every Sunday brings 6 to 8 large trash bags from their church for pickup on Monday morning. It's really none of my business, but irritating just the same that they can get away with doing that.

It is everyone's business because we are paying for the trash pickup service. I would suggest calling The Villages sanitation customer service number, (352) 753-4508, and tell them what is going on. You may also want to take some photos.
What they are doing is called theft of services. The church should be renting a dumpster for their trash like every other business or organization. I would even consider complaining to the church.

A more sinister way is, at 2AM, gather all your other neighbor’s trash, put it at the offender’s house, and see what happens when they start getting charged for excess trash. Assuming they are not early birds who walk at 5AM, before the trucks come.
Or just call trash company and ask what max ## of bags are, say neighbors puts out 6 bags so you are going to start doing the same, since it looks legit.

I would think the trash company would have a thing or two to say about this if it is happening every week.

I've told her she's stealing a service....she doesn't care, says she's old and McDonald's won't do anything to her..

But if you know what church it is, call the church. They should handle it.

How do you know that they are not paying for additional trash ? Maybe the church does not have enough money to rent a dumpster. Be a little charitable and mind your own business. If all you have to worry about is how much trash your neighbor is putting out then I worry about you.

OP has concerns about possible wrong doing in their neighborhood. Suggest you be charitable towards OP as they are concerned about said possible wrongs and is seeking to help rather than just walk on by, minding their own business. When Jesus saw a woman about to be stoned, did he mind his own business?

I disagree. I don't think you can pay for additional trash, especially if it is not residential trash. But, it is everybody's business if trash is being transported from outside The Villages so that Village residents have to pay for it. If the church members want to be charitable, they can haul the church's trash to the landfill and pay for it.

The real issue is the church pays no taxes. A church member is colluding with the church to move the burden from the church to non church members, e.g. tax payers.

Ah, Garbage in Florida! It has become an issue in our lives since we are retired and not running around like a Chicken with our Heads Cut Off. It's something once you have free time what becomes important to people. If the same neighbor asked you to take several bags of garbage for them if there was a limit would you help them out?
We have the same crew from Waste Management and we've had them for over 4 years. Those Christmas Gratutities really work. They even changed their route so the brakes on the truck don't wake us up to early. All I did was Splain dat I was around trucks my entire life and that the noise was hellacious for me and the wife. I asked them what the limitations were for the construction debris that I was bringing to the curb and the boss of the crew said mister, with a tip like that you could put the house out to the curb and we'll take it.
Get a hobby. Join the offending church. Help someone in need. Your concern over the garbage is wonderful but your effort could be of better use somewhere else.
I haven't heard any stories about fingers and toes wiggling out of the garbage like in N.J. NOT YET ANYWAY! :1rotfl::1rotfl::1rotfl:

I had six bags of refuse out this morning for pickup. Three bags (one paper and two plastic) had yard /shrub clipping waste in them. Any of you busybodies want to complain about that then by all means bring it on. My wife was a property manager in TV and when a rental vacated with trash left over instead of putting it on the curb when it wasn’t trash day she would put it out at my house. Sometimes we had ten or twelve bags out. What is the difference? I treat our trash pickup guys really well at Christmas and other times when I feel guilty about how heavy some of the crap is that I put out there.

I'm not sure I understand your point. We are expected to pay for trash that is generated inside The Villages, even if it is 10 bags. No problem. But, the OP said that their neighbor is importing 6 to 8 large bags of trash from a church every week. If true, that trash is generated outside of The Villages, and it is the church's responsibility to dispose of it, not Village residents. They are stealing a service from The Villages. Where I lived in Virginia, there was a $500 fine for using someone else's dumpster. Trash disposal is an expensive service and it is getting more expensive.

Speaking of breaking the law! What about all the.people that rent there houses out! Isn't that considered a home based business??? So why can't I run my landscape business from the house? Still a home based business. Hummmm. Sounds sensible to me. I'm no different than Mrs Jones sewing and repairing clothes at her house for people. I have seen the trash collectors piling bags up at one location for faster pickup.
We have neighbors that put their trash together at one driveway for faster pickup. SOOO there is no maximum number of bags allowed.

My point is that if the OP has real evidence that this is happening then they should make a decision whether to do something about it. I explained why there may be ten bags of trash in a particular driveway for pickup. We don’t know that trash came from a church. What we don’t need is trash police judging what is being put out for pickup. If the OP will post the name of the church I will make a donation so they can have their own dumpster if that truly is the problem. I agree, but I am assuming that the OP didn't just make up a story about a church. I would also like to know the name of the church. But, I think that, if the OP has evidence that the trash is coming from the church every week, a phone call to the church manager/leader asking them to dispose of their trash in a legal manner could possibly result in the matter being resolved. The church may not even know where the OP's neighbor is taking the trash. They may think the neighbor is taking it to the landfill, and paying the commercial disposal rate. I don't think the church would want to read a local news story about how they are saving money by importing their trash into The Villages. Just my opinion.

When my parents passed away, I disposed of a bunch of their stuff (at my house) when emptying out their room from the facility in which they lived. Guess I should be thankful that Mrs. Kravitz didn’t report me, or have other members of this site offer to assist in the manhunt.

How do you know that they are not paying for additional trash ? Maybe the church does not have enough money to rent a dumpster. Be a little charitable and mind your own business. If all you have to worry about is how much trash your neighbor is putting out then I worry about you.
Wtf are you talking about? If the church doesn’t have enough money to pay for trash service, that’s their problem and it doesn’t justify stealing.

How do we know that the people are bringing home the church's garbage? Seems like a very weird thing to do.
If it bothers the OP, then call Community Watch. Otherwise move on with your day.
