Can anyone recommend a good lawn dethatching service here in the Villages?

I have been told, that you really should not dethatch your lawn, the ground here is mostly sand, and the old grass clippings provide some much needed nutrients to the grass. Please feel free to confirm with master gardener. BTW, we have been here over 9 years, and never had the lawn dethatched, and I do not recall any of the neighbors doing this. Please do some research before your have this done.

Zoysia thatch removal only needs to occur every year or two. You can prevent some of that thatch by mowing frequently or using a bag on the lawnmower. When long periods go between mowing, the grass blades are long and resilient, resulting in zoysia thatch problems.
Not many lawns mowed infrequently in TV.

You should bang empire zoysia down to 2 inches in early April so the roots will grow into the ground. When it gets hot/dry/windy, your lawn won't go dormant and turn to straw if you have deep roots.
I did my neighbors lawn which took 25 yard bags for her 5k lot.
I suspect most yard services will dethatch and bag for you.

Use Adam's Earth. By far the best, you can search this site to see other threads that highly recommend him. BUT - I believe this is the wrong time of year to de-thatch.
