Is it worth paying the $6.99 for the “Villages GPS” app? Or is it basically the same as the “Villages App”? (For golf cart directions)

It's only $7, but there is no need to pay even that.
There have been many, many postings about the pay app being down.

They each have good and bad. I bought it, even though there is the free villages app, waze and google maps. It works and is worth it to me.
There was an outage a month ago, but was resolved quickly. No big deal, it happens to lots of things.

When you change from an Android phone to an iPhone or vice versa you get to pay again. Just an informational post. Judge for yourself. I know I did.

Be very careful with bicycle mode, as there are places bikes can go that golf carts cannot.
I forgot to add the FREE version gives spoken directions and works very well.

The free Villages App is not just for directions. I use it to see the activities going on at the rec centers. You can click on the calendar and search for specific activities or for a rec center. Much easier than using the weekly rec center activities paper.

I have the paid and the free version.
Bottom line is, in about 4 weeks, you really won’t need it, except for certain things.
(I always forget the best place to turn left from Buena Vista to get to Cain Garden.)
Even South of 44/Turnpike, it took me a few trips to get there and I am good.
If I am going to someone’s house - you might need it.

I have the app- I used it to find the home I bought. It helped me find the perfect home before my real estate agent did.
I just got a golf cart and used it for directions today for the first time- it got me there, but the voice prompts were rather annoying, so I was wondering if there was a good alternative.

I have both. I prefer the paid version. It has the turn by turn voice directions but also has a hybrid (satellite view) map that gives more of a visual that I like. Also has directions to individual villages that I haven’t found in the free one. But both get the job done.

It's per device. If you have two Android phones you still have to pay twice. They're transparent with that on their webpage, in the FAQ:
FAQ | The Villages GPS (https://villagesgps.com/faq/)
Is the app transferable from my tablet to my phone or vise versa?
No. The app will only work on the actual device you downloaded it on.

I have both, Use the Villages app.
The paid version is less reliable, has gone off line multiple times and I've experienced occasional lock ups, probably when cell signal was poor.

The paid version has had some reliability issues (less than 1% downtime) but the directions for golf carts are much more granular than free, waze or Google maps. I don't often use it but I find it the overall better app. JMHO

I've used both and had good luck with them until recently. We recently bought in St. Johns and every time I use the paid version I end up someplace near Sumter Landing. Have had others describe the same problem. Deliveries and meetings have been late for similar reasons. No issues with the free app or Waze. Googlemaps doesn't even have our street listed yet.

IMHO it's worth it. One of the things you can do is sort by distance to you. This comes in handy if for example you want to go to a Country Club, or a restaurant but you don't know what's closest to you.
It's also more reliable it doesn't go down like TV gps. Also, the home page lists everything right up front whereas the TV GPS you need to find what you looking for in drop-down menus. Villages GPS is bigger and clearer, easier to find things.

Yes, you can use the written directions which I find the easiest to use! Start the golf cart directions and then hit the upper left corner and a preview of the route will appear!

I use it almost everyday and only recall two times over the years it has been down, but back up very fast. It is worth the $7 as it has so much more than the free app.

The free one has broken down too. You pay for what you get.

Regardless of what is said, the pay app is shareable, at least on an Android phone. If you enable Family Library within the Google Play app, you can share apps (even apps that require a payment) with up to 5 members of your group. I bought the Villages GPS App, and share it with my wife via the Family Library. Pay once...we both have it on our phones with full functionality.

A common issue with new neighborhoods and streets. Don't panic, technology will eventually catch up with you. It took Google maps over a year to have our street mapped, but Waze had it nearly from the get-go. Go figure, since Waze is owned by Google! UPS and FedEx drivers know this.

Do a search for the Village Mixer Free golf cart app. It works great. You can add favorites, home, it will take you to town centers, rec centers, golf courses, via a menu. The down side it doesn't let you copy and paste addresses so you have to type them in if you want to go to like Walmart super center.

You can drop a pin when in your house and tell Google maps your address. If you and all your neighbors do that, you'll be on the map quicker.

I seem to have trouble with the paid version south of 44. The other night I was coming home from Brownwood. I was pretty sure I was going the right way (I was) but the app kept showing longer time and wanting me to turn around as if I was going in the wrong direction. I had the right destination. I think maybe it has to do with cell phone signals down here?

Well worth the small price. (Pretty soon the cost of a gallon of BRANDON GAS!)
And of course this thread goes from golf cart directions to politics. Pathetic.

The app works fine for getting to and from rec centers. Not so good for individual house directions, but for $7, I think it's worth it.

It amazes me that folks think that $6.99 is too much. A paper map will cost you that now. I have used both, and find the paid app to be more user friendly, and new areas are added quicker.
Both will work, but I find the paid easier to use.

I've found that if you take the time by 2/3rds, it's almost perfect. If Google Maps says a bicycle will do it in 15 minutes, figure 10 minutes by golf cart.

I started with and still like the GPS app but as of late I have had issues with it. I have read about the guys that made it and manage it, they are great.
When there is an issue The Villages app has never let me down. I think that the other is better visually for me but….

Lots of input for $7.
Did you spend or not.
