Anyone here deal with Munn's for repair or a system checkup on your heat pump heating/AC unit.
My system needs a annual tune up and I never dealt with them before.
Cheers!

Used them for 8 years. No issues. Long lead time for annual service this year

We have been using them for 5 years and they come out every 6 months on the service program. Have never had a problem with them and their tech's always know what they're doing.

We have been dealing with them for two years now and no problem. Wish we could have the same technician each time but they seem to have a lot of turnover.
Just have to schedule about 3 months out for PM.

Yes they are busy, I called in April, and they gave my a date in July.

They sent me a notice to let me know that it was time for maintenance on my system, but when I called they said they had no openings until October. I called Sun Cool and they came out within 2 weeks.

We use them and agree, they are prompt, reliable, and reasonable. Agree with the long lead times. But isn't that a positive? If they were a shoddy service you could probably get someone out in the afternoon if you called them in the morning.
I think they do have an "emergency" service also.

I never have mine checked. I flush out the condensate drain line or add some vinegar every 3 months to prevent it from clogging. Change the filter every 3-6 months, depending on how dirty it is. I check the outside unit for dirt or debris near the coils. During a hot day in the summer, I will inspect the suction line (the pipe near the outside unit with black insulation) to see if it is cold and sweating. If it is, you know that the compressor is working. Occasionally, inspect the evaporator coil (the inside unit) for any dirt or rust. I don't think there is anything else that a technician can do to prevent your system from failing. But, if you are going to hire an HVAC company to do periodic maintenance, you still need to maintain the condensate drain more often than every 6 to 12 months. It is a common reason for an AC failure. Also, I would insist that the technician test the electronic float valve in the evaporator drain pan.

As far as every six months. We have the carrier system as I think many other do.
You change the filter every six months. It is very easy to do. I use the carrier filters. There is no shortage of generic filters some are a bit undersized.
We have the unit serviced once a year. The drain line. I pour warm water down it every month also easy. No problem with that either. Endless debate about that as well.
Some people use bleach, some vinegar, I was told not to. Doing that every six months, I think is pushing your luck.

The last people I sign on with came every 6 months @ $240 per year with some kind of parts warranty.
Then I got a notice they raise the yearly fee to $300 per year.
Reason for their price increase, my unit was getting older.
I gave them the boot.

We used Munns for the first two years here. This year we switched to Sunshine Air Conditioning.
Both were very professional, courteous, and patience with my hovering.
However, Sunshine did a LOT of cleaning and checking of things Munns did not do. They were MUCH more thorough and seemed to be more detail focused.
$99/yr for maintenance and they have a "plan" also for those that prefer a contract. The plan does include discounts on parts, etc. if you need it. The technician, Shawn, was very polite in making the "offers" to upgrade to a plan, etc. And I felt no pressure to sign up.
Very happy, I plan on using them again next year.

The problem with a service plan is that, when your AC fails in mid-July, are they going to come to your house immediately? I don't have a plan, but when my AC failed last summer on a Saturday, I was able on get it fixed the same day. I like being able to call any company that is available. Most companies will tell you that they provide priority service to their plan customers, but none of them will guarantee it.

So far we have not had a problem (knock wood) but Munns claim we would get priority service. Hopefully will never need to find out.
I will say that when we had a similar pm in Va the hvac company would come out same day or next day.

Listen to 1,2,3. He is smarter than you. Go ahead and spend your money for a security blanket if you want but the smart move is saving your money for when you actually have a problem

While it's possible not to get same day service in an emergency if you have a priority plan, usually you do get same or next day service especially if your system is down in the hot season. We use Sunsine and they are very good. As some mentioned the service can only accomplish basic system checks and cleaning. There is no "magic" to anticipate a failure 100% of the time. Yearly or every 6 months is always a debate but if your unit is maintained meaning yearly check-ups and cleaning the condensate line monthly and changing the filters then yearly check-ups are fine.

Yes, there is a serious lack of employees and good employees in all fields it appears.
And when a company is short on employees it is hard on those that remain since they have to pickup the additional load. I hope everyone considers that when they get good polite and professional service and make sure to express your appreciation verbally, in reviews, and in a tip to the employee. Be really sure to let the company know that the employee you interacted with was good.

If you want to try another company to service your unit, I give the highest recommendation to Sunshine.
Our house came with a Carrier unit which requires it to be serviced annually by a technician approved by Carrier to maintain the warranty. Under these circumstances, my expectation of the quality of the service was not high. Quite to the contrary, the tech from Sunshine arrived on time and did the work in a thorough manner, explaining what he was doing and what I needed to do between the annual service such as flushing the drain line.
The best part came three months later when the blower motor failed. Sunshine had a tech at our house early the next morning. As Carrier required the motor be replaced with one it supplies, the tech installed a different brand as a temporary fix. When the new motor arrived from Carrier the next week, he returned and swapped out the temporary motor. The work was neatly done and he left the area cleaner than when he arrived.
Perhaps, we were given priority due to the fact that we have a service contract. Whatever the reason, Sunshine exceeded all our expectations for showing up on time; doing quality work; providing emergency services; and cleaning up the work area.

Regardless who you use, I recommend swapping out the Made In China capacitor with one made in the USA. These usually are the first things to fail.
I recommend AMRAD
Motor-Run Capacitors – The Leading Manufacturer of Motor-Run Capacitors (https://amradmanufacturing.com/products/motor-run-capacitors/)
Also have them replace the contactor every 5 years or so. It is very cheap to do.
And if you want to extend the life of your compressor, look into
EasyStart 364 (3-ton) Single Phase Soft Starter for Air Conditioners – Micro-Air, Inc. (https://www.microair.net/products/easystart-364-3-ton-single-phase-soft-starter-for-air-conditioners).
It reduces inrush current and provides more fault checks for compressor protection.

Very satisfied with Munn's. We have the annual service plan, which is for 2 service calls a year. One visit is for heat, the other A/C. The benefit is that you get a discount by signing up for the annual plan, with no need to worry about long lead times...each visit is set up in advance. Pay at time of service, and you get priority for emergency service.

I have used Munns for my semi annual HVAC maintenance for over 20 years. My first home, bought new in 2001, the HVAC lasted over 17 years with no repairs other than annual service by Munns.
They are our provider of our semiannual maintenance on our Heat Pump and split system. After 3 years only charges are for a filter replacement once a year and the service costs. Never tried to charge me for something.

I do believe there is truth to this.
I would bet for some it's more "piece-of-mind" to have yearly inspections or twice a year.
I find there are soooooo many ways Florida has a way to drain whatever $$$$$ you

IMHO a semi annual inspection can find a small problem before it becomes a big one so happy to spend the dollars to do so.

Dunno about that.
Back in Minnesota you learned right quick that if a furnace is going to break down it's going to be in the middle of January on a night where the ol' mercury is down there in the minus-35 degree below zero range. Same can probably be said for a Florida AC. Stuff is more apt to break when the machinery is working hard, such as a sweltering August afternoon with the heat index at up around 110 or so, than it is if it is only running once or twice a day.
I'd far rather have it checked than to have to have an "emergency" fix which is going to cost multiples of any inspection service call.
