The general rule of driving on TV is: Think of the absolute stupidest thing anyone could do on a road, and then watch someone do it.

Until an hour ago, my top 5 were: (in no particular order)

***A full size SUV coming out of the MMP tunnel under BV by Liberty Park
***A pick up truck crossing the Chitty-Chatty bridge
***A person stating they always drive in the RB outside lane to make the 270 left hand turn because HE thinks it's safer.
***A person who leaves Evans after playing golf in a regular cart, goes out the entrance to the RB and then down EP trail because they live there and it's shorter than going up to the tunnel
***And my favorite, a guy who posted he always drives 30 mph in the left lane of the 45 zone on 466 because HE thinks it's "fast enough"

But now we have a new one, perhaps because it's a double whammy: A regular golf cart on Morse, comes through the Hillsborough/Moyer Loop RB, then enters Moyer on the one way entrance lane the wrong way. Words do not do the visual justice.

I wish I could find that original post on TOTV from about 4 years ago. After all, the people of the county of Sumter, through their elected representatives in consultation with civil engineers and traffic experts determined that an appropriate speed limit is 45. Then this bozo comes along as judge and jury and not only believes that his opinion weighs more than everyone else, including the experts, but also elects himself executioner by intentionally obstructing traffic thus forcing his opinion down everyone else's throat. Entitled doesn't begin to describe it. (And I hope that guy is still on TOTV and reading this)

with many folks: parking right in front of store because your significant other only needs a few things...riding a Harley with no muffler because you think everyone envy's your loud noise(use a louder horn)and so called individualism(like a few hundred thousand other Harley owners)...playing golf ignoring etiquette because you're retired...waiting at a stop sign while using your phone.....charging your electric golf cart at a mail center...instead of using headphones playing your home or cart music loud because you're either mostly deaf or stupid...ad infinitum........

Last week I was in my cart coming down Paradise Ave toward the bridge. A car ahead of me came to a stop - didn't pull over, just - stopped. I figured maybe a squirrel in the road and he was letting it get out of the way, or some obstruction in front of him or something.

So I stopped. And waited. And waited. Eventually I pulled around to pass him. He was texting on his cell phone which was perched up on the steering wheel.

The best way to stay alive and healthy in the Villages is to assume every driver, whether it’s a car, truck , or golf cart, has absolutely no clue what they are doing and is going to do something incredibly stupid that will put you at risk. Anticipate this and avoid letting yourself become the victim.

Two weeks ago a cop pulled over a golf cart on 301, midway between the turnpike and 44.
At least they got him before he got on the turnpike.
And it was 9AM, so not a victim of happy hour

Well, I've seen some pretty stupid stuff myself. However, I have to admit, when I have spent several weeks not driving a car in TV, just driving the golf car, I can get a might confused. Case in point: I live near SeaBreeze. I drive my golf car to SeaBreeze a lot. Pickle, swim, or anytime I need to conduct some business at a Regional Rec Center, that's my "go to". So for some reason I am driving the wife's car, with the wife, to SeaBreeze and darn if I don't start to turn into SeaBreeze in front of the gate, where the MMP is. I think I would have figured out I don't fit, but before my brain figured it out on its own, the wife's scream alerted me that I was fu@*king something up...Saved by the bell.
To make matters somewhat funny, this was before we registered her car in Florida, so it still had the NY plates on it, so I'm sure the car behind me made some inaccurate conclusion about the experience level of the driver.

Conversely, if I've been driving the car a lot, I've found myself driving the golf car in the middle of the car lane on Bailey Trail, as if I were an automobile. Watch out for me now, and just wait another 10 years. You'll be writing threads about me.

That applies to driving anywhere.

Of all the places I have ever driven, the Villages is by far the worst (including Boston, where Massholes dominate the road). Older people have diminished reflexes, vision, hearing, cognitive function, etc….. Lots of people are driving around who absolutely should not be behind the wheel of either a car or golf cart. I get it, giving up the independence of driving is very difficult and I dread the day when I have to make that decision and will probably stay behind a wheel longer than I should.

To make matters worse, Villagers have a revolving door of visitors driving golf carts who don’t understand the intricacies of using a golf cart as a form of transportation versus driving on a golf course. There is definitely a steep learning curve for new Villages when it comes to learning how to get around safely via golf cart, and visitors typically are out of here before they figure it out.

Back in high school, 10th grade Driver's Ed classes, there was a large retirement community called Leisure World nearby. The behind-the-wheel teacher, also the football coach, used to call it Seizure World. He would make us drive over there for many of our lessons. He would tell us, "Kid, if you can learn to drive here, you can drive anywhere." Smart guy.

they are there, only we can't always see them. there's hiding spots, usually near a rec center. example: a sheriff frequently hangs out in the sea breeze rec center parking lot, over by the trees. (it's not always easy to see him.) another is over by moyer loop, close to 466a, near the golf course parking lot. there's plenty of unmarked vehicles too, the gear on the top or sides give them away.

Let me get this straight: Some bozo, yes BOZO, posts that he intentionally drives 30 mph in the left lane of a 45 zone because he and he alone believes that is fast enough. What does that have to do with rain/fog/heavy traffic or the 30 or 40 feet of snow we get each year on CR 466? What does that have to do with "hurrying" The point is that our elected representatives made a law stating the speed limit is 45 on that road. No one individual gets to rewrite his own version of that law, much less enforce it by becoming a one car road block.

Maybe, maybe not. After all, it was only a post---who knows if he is actually "entitled" enough to actually do it. Plus, that post was 5-6 years ago, so maybe somebody has shot him since. Either that or he is still on 466 between Morse and BV---his beard will be 6 feet long by the time he gets there:1rotfl::1rotfl::1rotfl:
Speaking of entitled. In Tennessee, you will often come upon an Amish horse and buggy driver doing 15 MPH or less in a posted 45 MPH stretch of highway. I wonder if the Police give them tickets. Maybe not because they sell the best-tasting eggs?

Can't answer for Tennessee, but in Minnesota we had several communities of Amish, also Hutterites. They were legal on the streets and roads (not on freeways) as long as they had an orange triangle slow moving vehicle placard on the back of their buggy.

There were no problems with the locals but occasionally an out-of-towner (stater?) would venture into the areas they frequented and sometimes there would be an accident, even though the towns where they shopped and sold items had plenty of signs indicating that there would be Amish buggies around.

Loud pipes save's lives!!!

And silent EV’s can take lives. My older brother is blind and he despises EV’s because he can’t hear them coming.

I drive a hybrid that is basically in EV mode when driving through parking lots. Through the years, I've had at least a dozen people walk into my car while it was moving, although most were just idiots texting on their phone while walking, or looking in a different direction from the direction they're walking.

so 30 is fast enough in a 45 zone. Wow talk about entitled
That is not entitled. That is foolishness. That is an accident waiting to happen when people try to get around the turtle on the road. That is not entitled. It is dangerous.

Never a cop around when you need one. Especially here.

Do you think cops will stop someone for driving 30 in a 45? There’s no minimum speed limit on these roads.

In some of the newer neighborhoods, there are several cases where it is very tempting to disobey the traffic rules.

For example, if a person in a golf cart is leaving Cason Hammock and wants to get on the MMP, it is very tempting to just go thru the roundabout to easily catch the MMP.

If a cart rider is at the new restaurant at Lake Okahumpka in St. Johns and wants to get to Brownwood, it will be very tempting for them to go thru the roundabout to catch the MMP. Otherwise, they would have to go south thru St. Johns for quite a ways and cross under Meggison to reach the MMP.

Is there a state law that has a general minimum. Going so far under the speed limit in the left land does create a very unsafe condition and would think the officer would investigate.

Seeing people run a red light on 441 is one of my most shocking sight around TV. Almost got creamed once, and am SUPER vigilant to always look sideways before crossing any street now on my green. I've seen SPEEDING through red lights way too many times, and not just there. :ohdear: :ohdear: :ohdear: :ohdear: :ohdear:

I don't think there is any law that directly addresses minimum speed. However, the applicable laws are:
As someone posted above, regardless of your speed, you MUST move out of the left lane if someone wants to pass. The operative word is MUST. NOT "I'm going the speed limit", NOT "that other guy wants to speed and I am a self appointed speed monitor", NOT "I'm entitled to use whatever lane I want". Simply, you MUST.
The other law involves obstructing the flow of traffic

Again, my point is NOT to advocate speeding. The point is that no individual driver gets to shove his own opinion of existing law down everyone else's throat

the older we get the more surprises we'll see on the road from other drivers that are clueless

Like Yogi said...."it ain't over till it's over."
