This has been our go to restaurant for over two years. Last week Taco Tuesday was less than stellar. Did something happen that changed service, food quality?

But not many get closed by the health dept and when they came back the second day still made them stay closed.

That tells me that the owners do not take food sanitation seriously enough. Perhaps should have been a mandatory closing for a few weeks to make them wake up.

Mandatory closing for a few weeks? Are you suggesting that the county has that ability? I doubt it. If they addressed the issues and passed inspection then they are allowed to reopen.

It was also our group's go-to spot for a long time until twice in one month just before Covid hit us they delivered to a group of 14 meals that their children prepared. It was amateur hour. We silently suffered through the first slaughter but several weeks later the same or worse with the food on the next attempt. It wasn't bad or terrible it was utterly horrendous.

We gave the manager who we had become friendly with a chance to taste the meals he served us and he refused. :blahblahblah:

Brisas Del Mar #1 now! Great service and nice people and when they play the music they don't blast your head off with the volumn.

I saw the story about the closing for a clean-up a few weeks back. I hope they make it back to their former status. I'll have to read about it because I'm done with them for good.

Have no idea but when the inspector came back and the place was still not fit to serve people do believe something more should be done.

Yep, something more was done. They failed the reinspection and were not allowed to reopen. The issues were apparently corrected and they passed the subsequent inspection and were allowed to reopen. Sounds to me like the system worked. Not sure what else you expect.

Never heard of it, where is it? We love Mexican food and typically go to Ay Jalisco in Spanish Springs, excellent food at very reasonable prices. Always willing to try a new place if it’s golf cart accessible, otherwise back to Ay Jalisco.

There is a remote possibility of a language barrier as far as what is expected during the clean-up shut down. Just a guess based on the blank stare that several of us got when we were splaining the bad for the particulars in regard to the bad meals.

A health inspection found violations, no big deal every restaurant can be found to be in violation of some health violation. Part of the business , food and service at this restaurant on the many times we have dined there is always very good, will continue to dine there.

We liked the place, but the violations were not only serious but they didn't correct them by the next day.
That's poor management especially considering they ow several locations.

my career took me into tens of thousands of restaurant basements. I can assure you your own kitchen is superior to any of those restaurants where.millions ate in nyc.
It will never be perfect but the best of restaurants have been cited occasionally and the cases of bribery between inspectors and them are routine in many cities.
I have ate in cited restaurants afterwards to give them a 2nd chance and can say i've never had a bad meal afterwards.
I believe in 2nd chances.

To Biker 1 -- What else to expect? I expect restaurants to be clean and not have these violations in the first place, let alone the violations still there after te reinvention. Sounds like they don't care enough. I'll never go back because they have lost my trust.

My post was in response to the inane suggestion that the restaurant should be closed for a few weeks, presumably as some sort of punishment. I expect the process of inspection and closure until the restaurant passes to be applied equitably. They have apparently addressed the issues and reopened. Whether you go back there or not, I really don’t care and doubt anyone else does either.

News article
A Mexican restaurant in Wildwood was shut down after an inspector found numerous high-priority violations.

Los Magueyes Mexican Restaurant on Shopping Center Drive was shut down May 10 after the inspector found flies landing on steaks in a prep room and roaches crawling near the cook line, according to an inspection report on file with the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation.

Two other “stop sale” orders were issued due to food temperature violations. In addition there were whole fish thawing in buckets. The buckets were moved to a cooler after they were discovered by the inspector.

There were numerous flies in the kitchen, bar and at the server station.

There was old food stuck to “clean” dishes and utensils, an accumulation of food on the interior of a microwave and a soiled cloth in use at the cook line. There was also a soiled cutting board on the cook line.

An inspector returned the following day, but there were still too many violations and the restaurant was not allowed to reopen. The inspector returned again this past Thursday and the restaurant met inspection standards.

It's ashamed the owner or manager let the staff be slobs.

I wonder if they fired the responsible employees?

Why weren't they using an exterminator on regular basis?

Yikes! We were at Los Magueyes the 3rd week in April. It was our first time. I do recall people standing on line were holding the door open and flies were entering and I commented on that to my husband. I thought the place was very cute, and the food was fabulous. Their Pina Colada's were fantastic

Inane idea huh. Should there not be repercussions when a restaurant does not believe in food sanitation and only penalty from the county is being closed for two days.

If not for someone on here bringing this to light would have had no idea this happened.

Do not care if they are closed for some time or fined but when a public restaurant allows this there should be some repercussion.

Yes, inane. The repercussion is they have to close until they meet the county health standards. Lesser violations would not have forced a closure. I suspect they will be scrutinized more closely in the future. The results of county inspections are available if you care to look. This forum isn’t the only place to find information. I was aware of it before anyone posted here.

I love it when people find something wrong one time and say they will never go back. Great! It’s hard enough to get in some places, and this is just one more open table. Those poor folks will eventually just eat at home until they run out of acceptable markets to buy food to cook.

I feel the same way. Usually restaurant violations are cleaned up on the spot and do not require reinspection
When they are so bad that they require a reinspection and then the restaurant fails that is a serious health violation.
Many Restaurants like this one may have a few flies in the Kitchen but this restaurant had maggots in the steak

Never eat in a restaurant where flies and roaches won't eat the food. If the bugs won't touch the food, you probably shouldn't either.
