Every Wednesday and Sunday there is a group that has very loud Polka music playing that u can hear over the entire pool from there boom box, BOTTLES of beer, and a dog that lays under the table barking at people if you attempt to. go the restroom ( it is obviously not a service animal). These people have taken over this pool with absolutely zero consideration of others, I have called about them, zero help from the from the recreation department! any ideas rather than going to another pool? Ashland is within walking distance for us.

There is no place for bottled beer, or any other type of glass, in a pool area where people walk around barefoot. Accidents happen. Now if it were cans of beer, it would be a different story : )

Talk to the folks, point the no glass signs.
Personal visit to the Recreation Department.
Call your district rep.
The behavior you describe is NOT acceptable!

I can't believe that the rec. center manager would allow glass bottles at the pool. Are you sure they are glass as they do have plastic brown beer bottles now. Also I can't believe that they would allow the dog to stay unless it is a service dog and the owner has the proper papers. So, if it's a service dog and if the bottles are plastic they are not breaking any of the posted rules.

How about recording their shenanigans? Then bring the recording to the proper people who can do something about them. That is not appropriate behavior and they should not be able to continue to disturb those around them in such a manner.

What about their booming polka music? If the dog barks at anyone who walks by, that dog is not a service dog but is a pet. Do these people not realize they are disturbing the environment for the people around them or don't they care? Do they realize they are not in their own back yard?

If the glass bottle break NEAR the pool, common protocol is to drain the pool, to be sure there are no pieces of glass in the pool.

Expensive proposition and closes the pool for a week.

Recreation will respond.

This doesn’t sound like the actions of Villagers- either this is done by non-Villagers or dead beat kids, grandkids.

I would call community watch and if they don’t or won’t take appropriate action, call the police and animal control.

Sorry, OP, but you don't seem to be getting much help here, so far.
OP has called rec dept.. No help.
"Talk to them". Confronting an alcohol infused rowdy group is a bad idea, imho.
Service dog??? Supposedly, not even allowed to ask. If you ask anyway, they will likely tell you to "go pound sand".
Bigger boom box and rap music? Seems counter productive, makes OP the new bad neighbor and possibly starts a "turf war".
As residents, we have no more power than neighborhood watch. Our responsibility and authority extends to calling the rec dept. For all we know the "polka party" may not even be villagers. The rec dept is and should be the one who ensures that no resident is afraid or uncomfortable when trying to enjoy the ammenities they pay for.

I go to the Ashland pool and the music starts at 2:30 - 3:00 on Wednesdays and Sundays. It starts out at a pretty low volume and as people begin to leave about 4:30 or so the volume increases a bit. People dance in the pool and overall it's a fun afternoon. I have never seen a dog barking there and that should stop but it has nothing to do with the man who brings the music. Have never heard polka music played. If you don't like it on those days jump in your golf cart and go to Bonnybrook 3 blocks away or the Lynnhaven, and Churchill pools also very close. Don't complain about something many people enjoy on those 2 afternoons for a couple of hours! Go early or someplace else and sit in silence on Wednesday and Sunday. After reading all the posts the people responding are not getting a clear picture - no one is rowdy, it's not kids doing this and it's not a boom box. It's an older gentleman, a nice guy, and the people are seniors not rowdy younger ones. The dog should go if it's barking at people and I can't imagine whose dog that is as the gentleman that plays the music does not have a dog. The person that comes by to check ID's laughs and joins in on the fun of music - MUSIC - folks! Not POLKA music all kinds of music which supplies much happiness in life. You are misrepresenting this situation - Please go somewhere else on those afternoons and don't try and ruin it for others that enjoy this!
Update about the dog: The dog is a service dog. Pete's caretaker (Pete is 99 years old) brings him over on Sunday with the dog. The dog has never barked and does lay next to the caretaker. Some people need to get a life.

Who do I contact about scheduling a few hours on a couple days per week when my group can take over the pool playing MUSIC (Not POLKA music) that I like loud enough for all to hear? Is there a special sign that says, "Neighborhood pool reserved for those who like my music"?

I hate "well if you just followed the rules...." but even common sense would say that a regularly-scheduled event doesn't belong at the neighborhood pool. The pool is for the community, not for special groups, and the ones who should "go somewhere else" are those that feel they are entitled to inflict their music and pets on others.

Yeah but I don’t think that was the point. Some folks think they are “entitled” to break all rules and disrupt others. Moving to another venue does not solve the problem, it perpetuates it. One of the problems we have in our large cities: just look the other way and it will go away. “Don’t worry be happy”??? Attitude doesn’t work. I have nothing against having fun nor music nor dogs (I have one) but I can understand the rules. The intent is to create an environment suitable for ALL residents in COMMON areas for ALL to enjoy. I suggest that they have these parties at a more suitable location, maybe on one of the greens at the golf course. Surely no one would mind that

UPDATE: I have to temper this somewhat. Rules say no pets? I guess that would exclude a service dog. Riles say no glass around pool. No debate on that score. Cans and plastic ok - bottles not ok. Music?? Volume may be somewhat subjective. But if not blasting the neighborhood, why not. Original poster exaggerating??? Who knows. Maybe I’ll have to go over there on Wednesday

Very loud polka music? What fun! Would that be the Lawrence Welk kind of polka? The kind loved by Czechs? Bohemians? Bavarians? Poles? I wonder if this a group of people who have come from some European country and enjoy getting together at a pool weekly. I would be really offended if rap or heavy metal were being played at a pool, even quietly, but I’m okay with polka.

You absolutely should NOT have to leave your neighborhood pool because of others bad behavior. Glass bottles?! Contact the recreation department manager in person. If it is a regularly scheduled gathering, the rec department can easily send someone to witness the behavior and then take appropriate action. However, keep in mind the Villages has a habit of non-enforcement. Best of luck.

Whether the original story is embellished or not, what is most striking is that in a retirement community you have to deal with the same a-holes that you did back in the day in your original state of residence.

These same people made it to retirement, loaded up the van, and moved to The Villages. Some of us thought we had bought away and out of the clown show.

We had an incident last night in our village where a couple returned home around 10 pm with friends arriving in another golf cart and they decided to turn their pool speakers up to 11 and party until 1 am.

These aren't 30 year-olds, they are probably late 60's. For some reason, some people think they are above rules and decency.

Some people are a-holes in their youth, middle-age, and golden years.

Yes, there is music on Wednesday and Sunday. It’s all music from the 40’s to the present. Most people enjoy it and come specially on those days for the music. As for beer bottles, I am one who participates at the Ashland pool and in the year I’ve been here, I have have NEVER seen a glass bottled beverage. The dog has been here on only a couple of occasions and he wears a service collar and belongs to a 92 year old veteran. The dogs that are barking are from outside the pool area and are being walked by their owners. If this is not your cup of tea, please visit the 100 other pools and allow the residents of Ashland to enjoy themselves these 2 afternoons a week.

The dog is a service dog. Pete's caretaker (Pete is 92 years old) brings him over on Sunday with the dog. The dog doesn't bark and does lay next to the caretaker. Some people need to get a life. Barking comes from neighborhood homes. Only 2 polkas on his playlist. HAPPINESS AND FUN IS A PROBLEM FOR OLD GROUCHES!

I am a regular at the Ashland pool. The person that plays the music is a great person. He has a love of music and a great play list.
His selection of music is vast and if you ask him he will play anything, and any type of music you request will be honored.
We have enjoyed the music over the years, and often will go to the pool because we know he is playing that day. The music adds to the atmosphere, and the normal friendliness of the Ashland pool .
We have never heard the music loud , and it never interferes with our conversation , or our enjoyment.
Now if there are in fact glass bottles or any glass, as the original post stated, that just can’t be allowed.
As for dogs, people in the villages take there dogs to many places that they should not be allowed, but that is a discussion for another day.

I believe this person is Jealous. Let people be happy.

More likely just annoyed. Goes to neighborhood pool for rest and relaxation instead of a soire with dj. Went for peace and quiet and a party broke out.

Letter to your noisy neighbors.
Dear Neighbors, hope you had a wonderful once in a life time evening on the night of (date and time). I can assure you that none of your neighbors appreciated you being so thoughtless. Truly, we hope this will be a once in a lifetime event because if it should happen again the police will be asked to be in attendance.
In all sincerity, your neighbors

I dont know....I guess I have to disagree. It's Saturday night, it's a holiday weekend, people are in need of some fun....I guess my 2cents is close your windows, turn up your air and put in your ear plugs. Give the benefit of the doubt...if it becomes a weekly thing, that's different, otherwise just be the bigger person and zip it.

This is Wednesday and Sunday afternoon. Usually the music is there for about 2-3 hrs. Most people go to the pool on those days for the music. People need to stop commenting on things they know nothing about. There is no wild behavior. Whoever has a problem with this, get over yourself. Those that want to, come join in on the fun!

Well the OP asked where the closest pools are so I responded with my answer. Trust me I don’t put up with BS . Someone who posts this on social media has no ability to stand up for themselves. I was just trying to give them a solution

I agree...... Just some old fogey with nothing better to do than complain about people having FUN!!!!

Quiet hours are very clearly listed as starting at 10pm on the residential paperwork we all sign.
Garner enough PD calls regarding one problem residence and there will be action taken, I assure you. The Villages, lack of enforcement or not, will not want the public record of having police calls/issues.
I would record it, just incase it later becomes contested. Climb up the chain of command, until it gets squashed, there is no excuse for it.

I am the bigger person..... that is why I showed restraint. I wanted to throttle the neighbor and his friends. My wife said I could give them a heart attack.

I was like, yeah, but after the EMTs leave, I bet it would be real quiet.

"Flame guns"? "Magic scroll/block finger"?
I don't understand.
😯

Flame guns are a euphemism for the folks who will reply with a snarky comment just because they can. Scroll/block finger is
when you either block the snarky person or just page down.

I believe that dogs that are not certified companion dogs are not allowed in Village pools. Dogs that bark at people in a circumstance like that are pathetic. If a dog is out of control, it is because the master is to blame. A barking dog could feel that it is protecting its territory, but the problem is that , especially with some breeds, that barking problem can turn into a biting problem.
........As far as people go.........I have seen some really bad individual behavior at a Village pool and also there are some clique groups that will gather in one area day after day and take ownership of that area. Also, I have been bothered by loud music from time to time.

Take some Mace (or make your own pepper spray) and as you walk by the dog - "accidentally spray some close to it.

If the glass bottle break NEAR the pool, common protocol is to drain the pool, to be sure there are no pieces of glass in the pool.

Expensive proposition and closes the pool for a week.

Recreation will respond.
Use the video on your phone to prove the glass bottles and barking, aggressive dog.
.......Step 1 Ask politely
........Step 2 Get your phone out and video it. That OFTEN scares people into suddenly doing the right thing.
........Step 3 Spray pepper solution in area of dog, covertly.
........Step 4 Become friends with some retired Mafia types.
.........Step 5 Get all your women friends to put on really NASTY perfume and sit upwind from that group.
.........Step 6 Play some really nasty rap music ......loud and close by.

1) Trip over dog. Sue any and all. Especially the Villages. That will put an end to it pronto.

2) Bring your own music and play it as loud as theirs is.

Adult pools are supposed to be quiet. Sorry, you dont get to hold your own parties twice a week and infringe on my ability to enjoy the pool closest to my house. It doesnt work that way.

Village Community Development Districts (https://www.districtgov.org/departments/Recreation/PoolGuidelines.aspx)

Residents that bring music to the neighborhood pools, are asked to please play the music at a level that they can only hear. The use of headphones or earbuds is preferred as to not disrupt other villagers that are there to enjoy the pool.
