Seriously, why would someone wade in gator infested waters for a frisbee?

Golfers search for $3 golf balls so why would it be a surprise that someone tries to retrieve a $20 disc?

Don't know the details but seems like he should have been more aware of his surroundings.

As the article said, it was one in years. But, wait for it, the "kill all the alligators" posts will start.

Precisely.

And people must not realize the thousands of people who regularly swim, float, kayak and water ski in the lakes and rivers and various bodies of water here in Florida.

It’s not the price of the golf ball, it’s not wanting to take a dam penalty stroke.

Unfortunately, I believe you are correct. Everyone believes they are the exception.

Sad part is the gator paid for it with his live.
Sorry for the man’s family and love ones
Makes me sad when wild life has to pay for human decisions

Assault alligators must go !!! Training, signs, laws, warnings... All don't work. So we must do something. The easiest is to blame the gun,, .. err.. alligator
But alligators do attack by themselves, but guns can sit around forever and never fire by themselves.

As I understand the rules, if you can reasonably determine that the ball went into a water hazard, there is no scoring advantage to retrieving the ball, unless you are going to hit the ball from the water. You drop another ball on the path that it entered the hazard (not closer to the hole), and take a one stroke penalty. This is not considered a lost ball or out-of-bounds.

Correct. Depends on whether it is a penalty area demarcated by yellow or red stakes, but in general you can either:

***Drop a ball withing 2 club lengths of where it last crossed the margin of the hazard no closer to the hole.
***Keep the point where it last crossed the margin of the hazard between you and the pin with no restriction on how far back you may go.
***Play from where you last hit the ball

You are right, it is not "lost" or "out of bounds"---that's a different rule
