I was told that Blue Fin (and subsequently Chop House) will no longer have Ladies Night half priced drink specials. It is alleged that a man recently complained to the management that he was being discriminated against because he was a male. He allegedly stated that he was declaring himself a female for the evening, and wanted half price drinks. When denied, he allegedly threatened legal action.
This is of course hearsay on my part. Does anyone have any knowledge of this? (Would a man actually do that?). I personally don’t believe that anyone would have grounds for an individual or class action suit, since similar specials have been going on for decades throughout the country. Even so, the management apparently feels that they would still have to defend such a frivolous suit should one be filed, and subsequently stopped Ladies Night.

The lawsuit could possibly have some merit. Laws have been changed that allow men to declare themselves as women and use women’s bathrooms, so where does the nonsense end?

It's that bottom shelf stuff that no one want's to drink so let them have it. I like the Fenney Grill, cocktail hour is 1/2 price on anything they have in the bar.

Very true but the reason that they had a ladies night was to attract more females to the bar for men to hang out with. Back than unattached females typically did not go to bars.

In the United States, state courts in California, Maryland, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin have ruled that ladies' night discounts are unlawful gender-based price discrimination under state or local statutes. However, courts in Illinois, Minnesota, and Washington have rejected a variety of challenges to such discounts.

Legal president was set years ago when golf country clubs were sued for having "men's day" that forbid women to be at the clubs. That's why many clubs have both a men's day and a women's day.
So the simple solution is to not do away with half price drink days for women but to add a similar day for men.

So because there is ladies night, it’s to take advantage of women at the end of the night? Why because not bright enough to be on their own?
The insinuation that ladies night “probably only attracts alcoholics” is a slap in the face to all women.
Maybe it’s your age bracket, that you feel women are not not capable of making good life choices, on their own, or a women who enters a bar on ladies night is an “alcoholic”.
So sad that some, Men or Women, still think of women this way.

That's not the meaning I took from his post. See post 9. I think Topspinmo meant the men whom the bar wanted to attract to hang out with the females (à la post 9) were the alcoholics, not the females themselves. I could see this not being good for the females.

Businesses "discriminate" all the time. You see discounts for seniors, retired military & 1st responders, repeat customers, AARP members, AAA members, early shoppers, and on and on and on. Is it really discrimination, or just marketing? Whining about a discount given to a certain group for which I may not qualify? Not the hill I want to die on.

Ladies night? Wouldn’t attract me. Ladies day? That might. Sometimes you like to let your hair down and enjoy the company of other women. Not trying to impress the guys, dressing up for them or wearing make-up, or etc. just being yourself and laughing in good company - while husband can go off and play poker or whatever he wants with his buddies. I think I’d like that. Is it discriminatory? But then the fact that husband pays $20 for a haircut while I am charged $200 is also discriminating but for some reason THAT is ok.

You never know these days, men are competing in womens sports, saying they were born in the wrong body, using womens bathrooms & declaring themselves as female. Wokeness is here & it depends on how woke the judge is. Things have taken us into a downward spiral & things aren’t the way we grew up in & it’s the new norm now for stuff like this are going to happen. But science tells us we were born with XX or XY chromosomes that determine our sex. If you were born a boy & have the body parts that come along with it you can’t change that no matter what you believe or declare yourself as, you’ll always be a male no matter how woke you are.

Ladies night was implemented to get closer to a 50-50 ratio at bars. That's the only reason. It helped remove the stigma of women going to a bar unescorted and evened the playing field.
In the early 1970s I visited a cousin who was living in Toronto. He took me to a very popular local spot in or near Yorkville. I think it was called The Bicycle Club. The walls had some old time bicycles hanging on them. Around quitting time for offices the club sent double decker buses around town and gave free rides to women from where they worked to the club. They may have even fronted a free or half price drink to women as well. I don't know. Anyway the place was packed with men in business suits and young women. Everybody there seemed to be having a great time.
Smart club owners are aware that if they can attract women the men will show up and spend, spend spend. That is the way it works.

Enough is enough, this poor next generation is going to be so screwed up! If you are born with xx chromosome you are a female xy you are a male. Anything else you want to talk about are feelings not science.

That's only part of the story.
"Women's Happy Hour" and such things at bars & restaurants, began and became popular, when women made significantly less money than men and simply couldn't afford to spend their money on entertainment.
Those days have come and gone.
Back then Most didn’t have cause their date or man paid for it.

It doesn’t shock me at all. I am actually surprised that it took this long to happen.

I guess that back in the 70's and 80's, gay bars were discriminatory, but then, most people wouldn't step foot in there unless they were.

Perhaps sad, but you do understand that the whole point of a ladies night, AT A BAR, is a promotional ploy to bring women to the bar so that men would come in the hopes of trying to "score".

OP, I'm going to step forward and apologize on behalf of all the men in TV for that boorish man's behavior...why it's just poor upbringing and bad manners that would have driven him to even think about trying to horn in on a ladies night drink special
Traditions must be upheld!!!
I'll bet this stinker even puts the toilet paper on the wrong way
Is it a collar up pick-up situation like Katie Belles was?
If women sit at a bar and expect half price, why shouldn’t men enjoy the same?
If we want equal rights, we should pay for them as well.

Back when I was in my twenties, there was a place near me up north that was ladies only from 9-11pm. If a lady wore a swimsuit, she would drink for free from 10:00 to 11:00.
At 11:00 there was a line of about 100 young men outside their door.

I did something similar when in a medical office which only had single occupancy bathrooms. Someone was in the men's room so I went into the ladies bathroom. When I came out this lady was standing there staring at me shaking her head, I told her identify as a women.

Ahh, The Villages; where women can’t get pregnant and most men look like they are.
Men would have to be pretty desperate to need to score with the women that frequent the bars.

I'm not sure about the intent of the "attracts alcoholics" comment. But I think he was saying that some of the men that go to Lady's night are hoping the Lady's drink too much and the alcohol effects there ability to make good decisions. I don't think it was meant as a knock on women. The decision making of both men and women is negatively impacted by alcohol.
