Have one set of windows in back where small ants have been coming in. Tried ant sprays. Still coming. Tried vinegar with lemon and water spray. Still…. Have no idea what is attracting them. Will try another spray of the vinegar and lemon. Irritating and grrrrr. Btw have caulked all around windows too.
Any tricks or ideas from you folks?

Buy some Terro gel. A few drops placed on small pieces of paper near the ants and they will be gone in a few days.

Yep, Terro will get rid of them, they will take it back to their nest, and kill them all.

Definitely try Terro. We use the pre-filled baits rather than the gel but the effect is the same.

I had ghost ants coming into the kitchen through the cabinet area to my refridge. I first wiped down the area with vinegar like you did, then sprayed with ant spray along the ant trail. When new ants appear to find their way back I would squash them for a period of an hour. Then I went to Publix and bought ant killer in gel form that I placed in the ant path. I never saw the ants appear again and it has been months. Then I sprayed Home Defense from Lowe's all the way around the house and saw dead crickets, roaches, etc. all around the house and also sprayed external outlets and pipes and window sills. So far only millipedes get in so I'll try salt as suggested by someone.

Yes Terro. All I do is twist off the cap and place the plastic container in a window sill or on the bar and it’s like magic.

You have ghost ants and the ONLY thing that gets rid of them is a professional exterminator who dredges a 1 foot band around the perimeter of the house in order to kill them. After this special treatment, expect to still see them for up to one month. Then, they are gone. NOTHING else will solve it. Nothing.

We deal ants all most every year and put borax mixed well with honey on a piece of aluminum foil and place the entire along the line where the ants are tracking in. One only needs about 2 table spoons worth on concoction for this to work. Don’t let your pets near the stuff and don’t put it where it rains. 3 days later the ants will have fed on it and taken all that is needed back to their nest to kill the entire Colony. Done for the year. All gone. Never tried this with red ants so don’t know if it works with them.

Ghost ants are tiny ants that you barely see. But you can see them.

I’m the op. Thx to all for the recommendations. Wouldn’t you know it. I mentioned to her, when you’re out today pls go to Walmart and pick up Terro gel. “Oh wait I think we have some from a couple years ago”. She goes to a drawer and gives me the box of terro gel, as I found out, unopened….
OK….. put drops on the paper as instructed inside and out. My hope is that I will hear lots of tiny choking and coughing from the ants. And the colony is gone soon. Thx again folks

Call Massey. They’ve got some stuff that’ll stop those tiny ‘sugar ants’ with only one application

Also, break their path with diatomaceous earth. It desiccates them. Between that and the Terro, you should have adequate weapons for the little guys.
Remove any enticing food sources for a while too. No pizza on the floor, cookies on the counter until they stop visiting.

Are these tiny ants? That are there one minute then gone?
We use Do It Yourself Pest Control. You can find their # online. We don't have ghost ants now. We are using a pest control firm now in the Villages because they also do our yard. But if they don't do well inside, we will get product from Do It Yourself. Not a spray.. Usually a gel form in an applicator. No contact, no smell.

Have you tried Borax, sugar and water placed in a small container with a piece of bread or frozen waffle in it?

In repsonse to the ghost ant problem, Optiguard ant gel is the best and works like a charm. Can be ordered for $29.50 a tube. Does not take much.

Office room got invaded a few days ago. A couple of 'em turned into at least a dozen in 2 days. Not eating in there anymore. Using a plate or whatever, one crumb hits the ground and they eventually come-a-runnin'. Bread is the evil crumb-dropper, releasing many crumbs for just a couple slices.
Got the Terro on advice in this thread and set it up. Box says to use them all at once but I think that's the way they get you to keep buying. I want to save my stash for later. Will see how one works in my office.

I find Terro works best. You can get the enclosed ones where you break off the end so the ants can crawl in and get the sweet poison, OR get the bottle and cut up a piece of cardboard (the box it came in works), place it near where you see the ants and place a few drops on top of the cardboard. Once one ant finds it, they all seem to go and touch it. They then bring it back to the nest. I find this, Terro, works best.

We had ghost ants 3 times 5 years ago. I then started a quarterly Home Defense spray program on my own and have never had an ant since or any other bugs for that matter. The only time we ever see a bug, and it's rare, is if one comes in on our dog. No spiders, nothing at all. It has been working for 5 years now and it's cheap and it's safe and it doesn't stink. No need for a professional or a dredge just good old Home Defense spray. Try it, you have nothing to lose.
