Ate there yesterday. Service was friendly and fast. They shorted us one french fry. Circled back through the drive thru. Was handed a bag with more than an order of fries and an apology. Food was typical of McDonalds. It was fresh and hot.

Hadn’t been to a McDonalds in about 4 years. Was a little surprised at the price. A Big Mac meal and a 1/4 Pounder meal came to right at $18.

They also placed a flyer in each bag stating they were hiring at $13-$18 per hour with up to 2,500 of tuition assistance.

I think I’ll go to Five Guys for my fast food burger fix at those prices.

I went Sunday morning on the way to Lowlands. Picked up a couple of breakfast burritos and I was on my way. Typical McDonalds food fast and hot. This was at about 6:50am so I wasn't expecting a line.

Since I drive by it most days, it's had lines since it opened on Friday. We'll see how it does after the newness wears off.

We would rather spend the extra money and have a nice sit down meal at a nice place.

I grill a lot and use my smoker often. It’s hard justifying fast food when what I or my wife cook is much better.

I’ve been in the drive through line twice this week and found the operation to be very smooth. They move everybody through very fast. The help is polite and obviously well trained. The food was hot and was not reheated. Most of us old farts are glad to see McDonalds in the neighborhood - we aren’t expecting a great dining experience, just a decent, quick meal.

The real issue is whether fast food places can survive if they are charging $9 for a Big Mac, fries, and a drink and paying $15.00 an hour for the help. Demand for restaurants is very elastic while demand for utilities, groceries, and gas is less elastic.

Restaurants risk losing customers who 'vote with their feet' amid inflation (https://finance.yahoo.com/news/restaurants-risk-losing-customers-over-inflation-184428402.html?fr=sycsrp_catchall)

I think Five Guys is ridiculously expensive. I rather have Burger King or Wendy's than McDonalds. I don't understand how they are the number one fast food burger place. They are in in last place as far as I'm concerned.

I was really surprised a few month's ago when I ate at Steak and Shake. The best fast food burgers I've ever had.

McD's workers in Denmark are paid $22/hr + 6 wks paid vacation. Price of Big Mac meal is about a dollar more to customers than here. The wage issue is a red herring. But, inflation of gas, electricity, oil, food, etc. is real, and it is worldwide.

Wife and I went through twice now, we pretty much only do drive through when we are on our way someplace like Gainesville, and stop for breakfast on the way. Food and service were fine. Not good not bad. Convenient.

Typically we stop at Cracker Barrel, but if we are running late we would stop at Starbucks or Burgerking for a breakfast sandwich and something to drink.

Glad it opened in Magnolia that will save us having to go all the way over to 466 (Pinellas area)/ Next up I understand a gas station will be opening soon by Kenny's Grill. That will help too.

To me fast food is a convince, not a place I want to go. Glad to have that and gas more convenient.

Have you ever seen a McDonald's go out of business? I understand that their business model is for the company to buy a failing franchise so that I doesn't close, even if it is losing money.

Starbucks cup size: The scam that wasn’t (https://www.moneycontrol.com/news/trends/starbucks-cup-size-the-scam-that-wasnt-a-scam-8631711.html)

Earlier this week, old rumours about Starbucks scamming its customers by serving the same amount of coffee in cups of different sizes were revived, thanks to a resurfaced video. Starbucks offers its customers beverages three sizes – tall (cups that can hold around 354 ml), grande (473 ml) and venti (591 ml).

Average in Denmark is around 35% in taxes. I'm sure most people would rather be paid $22/hour instead of the $12/hour average at McDonalds in Florida even with an extra 10% being paid towards taxes, not to mention the paid vacation and free health care.

Collecting social security is "Big Brother" taking care of people, and I don't see many people around here complaining about that.

I think there is a difference between "eating there frequently" and "eating there occasionally". All things in moderation is a good guide in my mind. We eat fast food 3 or 4 times a month.

When we eat fast food more than that I see a definite increase in weight and my PCP yells at me.

I have no idea what the tax system is like in Denmark, but most people in this country making $12.00 per hour pay zero in income tax.

Social security is a closed system where only people that have paid into it receive benefits. The amount of benefits that people receive is determined by how much they put in. It's very different than having everyone receiving the same benefits while some people have paid nothing.

And I don't know many people who think that social security pays for everything in their life.

Please don't compare social security to widespread socialism.

I think several posts illustrated that even if the $12.00/hr employees paid the rate of income tax here they would be better off making almost double the income and having free healthcare thrown in.

We (most states) also offer "free" healthcare to some. But, our patchwork system ends up with us (taxpayers) paying almost as much (if not more) to administer the system than to actually provide healthcare.

Socialism is not the real issue here, the real issue is how inefficient we are being the richest nation and earth ensuring the health and welfare of our poorest citizens.

Denmark if you're making $22/hr, you're basically making $15/hour after tax. Still better than $12.

Widespread socialism doesn't really even exist Europe, it's just more socialist than here. No one here seems to freak out that the government runs the postal service or the DMV. Both of which are privatized in some European countries.

This is true, that $7/hr (35% tax = about $1100/mth) includes all your taxes plus it is also paying for your health insurance that covers everything, and 6 weeks of vacation. The insurance is actually Universal and covers everything.

Except-----your "35% average tax rate" includes all citizens----how many pay no tax (like 47% here), and therefore what is the TRUE rate among those that actually pay taxes (thereby supporting the other half).

Google can be your friend. Denmark's top bracket is about 55%, but they also have a VAT of 25% (value added tax) and a GST of 9%. And they also have something that would never go over in the US----a 0.7% church tax for the Church of Denmark (if you are a member)

Have you ever seen a McDonald's go out of business? I understand that their business model is for the company to buy a failing franchise so that I doesn't close, even if it is losing money.

Actually, yes, although I don't know why they ever opened one there to begin with.... The put one in pretty much a residential neighborhood next to a high school. They closed it within 3 years. They already had one 2 miles away on a busy interstate, so unless they thought they were going to make a killing on student lunches or after school snacks, I never understood why they opened one where they did.

When we visit N.J. it's almost a must to go to White Castle. Pay once and you get to have 'em several times. Burgers are called Sliders. No, you can't compare them to anything in Florida. They are truly special.

Was there last week with a good sized group and thought food was very good and served in a timely manner.

Have noticed that most restaurants make pizza slightly different than others. More cheese, less cheese, more sauce less sauce, etc. And dont let me get started on the dough

Well, no. It used to be, up until maybe the 70's. McDonalds held control over stores with an iron first. The thing you could always depend on with them was no matter where you travel you KNEW what you were getting.

Those days are long gone. Now, each franchise can be very different, dirty or clean, fresh food or old. I had to quit going to McDonalds because I drink Diet Coke and what many of them served did not taste anything like Diet Coke. I don't know if it was a cleanliness issue or if the franchise was using an off brand, but I gave up year ago.

I tried the one at Magnolia and it served actual Diet Coke and is convenient to grab a breakfast sandwich when we have to go to Gainesville early for a doctors appointment.

Of course 5hey are so much better, I certainly would never call them good. The term is convenience.

People working three jobs to pay their rent don’t have time to cook, they need fast. People on cross country trips that can’t afford any extra time for fine dining, and on and on.

If everyone was as lucky as those of us that can afford to retire here are, McDonalds would have ver few customers.

But sadly they have a lot of customers, and people that eat there or similar places are dying by constantly eating that food. In moderation, it is bad, as a constant diet it is poison.

McD's workers in Denmark are paid $22/hr + 6 wks paid vacation. Price of Big Mac meal is about a dollar more to customers than here. The wage issue is a red herring. But, inflation of gas, electricity, oil, food, etc. is real, and it is worldwide.

Why is it that almost all canned food in the grocery store has a high salt content, unless you buy the "no salt added" or the "low sodium" versions? I thought that, if they can make the same product with less salt, they were just adding the salt to improve the taste.

Have you tried products without additives or preservatives? Big difference from canned low sodium. Read their label lots of other things to replace sodium.
I wasn’t raised with any commercial can product. We canned our own produce, and very little salt was used in anything. Salt should be added to taste as needed, not In processing. But my lifestyle is very different from those who have eaten processed food their whole life.

Salt is an appetite stimulant. It "encourages your body" to want more food.

Also, be sure to check the "added sugar" row on the nutrients. Most vegetables and fruit have sugar naturally in reasonable levels (American Diabetes Association recommends fruit in diabetics diet). However, they often ADD more refined sugar of various forms to get you to buy more. Back in the 60's there was a scientist who developed something called The Bliss Point which was the optimal level of Sugar in soft drinks. A level that was not too much and not too little. The perfect amount to get you to come back for more.

That concept has moved on to all kinds of processed foods with added sugars in them as well as things like Fat and Salt.

Even items like Yogurt with fruit in it have added sugar.
