We will be moving into our new home around the middle of July. We are in the process of loading a Pod to go into storage until we take possession of our home. We will be looking for someone to help unload and place our items in the house. Only one sleeper couch and mostly boxes. Can anyone recommend a company or individuals to help us? Thanks

Call PODS. They will have a list for unloading. We have used them in the past using their recommendations for the full treatment to pack, load and unload. Very satisfied.

Beware of hiring individuals. They will likely be kids who don't know what they're doing and you'll have no recourse if they damage something - or hurt themselves. Village Mover (not Movers) has a good reputation, but be prepared to spend a little.

An option would be the same people who loaded the Pod. Thinking it may be you. All depends upon your health. My wife and I unloaded our POD using a wheeled Dolly. I believe that POD allows several days. The sleeper couch may need some assistance.

Thanks for all the replies. We did the loading and it almost killed me, actually we’re not quite finished. I had two friends help with the heavy stuff. I’m 78 and too old for this. I will probably have Pods send someone.

Pods will send you three names, well at least they sent me three names. One of the companies actually quoted their prices according to time to do the job and men needed. The other two were very expensive.

Make sure that you are clear and specific about where (and as close as possible, when) you will need the delivery on the FL end. My son had quite a bit of difficulty with that 2 years ago and went without a lot of furniture for more than 2 weeks. Getting through to many companies by phone often creates an extensive wait time. Moving is already potentially stressful. No need to add to it by taking chances if not be absolutely specific about who, what, where, why, when and how!

No!!! The point is to avoid being skewered by requirement to be on their schedule for loading even if they are days late, upcharge surprises when the furnishings are weighed (when you aren't present), another schedule demand when they are late (or early) delivering your furnishings and another surprise when cash or certified check is required at delivery. By the way if you need to store your items for a month or so be prepared to pay astronomic additional unloading and loading charges along with storage fees. My personal experiences with the traditional cross country movers has been abysmal in 3 instances. Then along came PODS. My experience with PODS has been excellent.

We checked with the 2 most well known movers and before giving us an actual quote they both said a minimum of $10k. We are doing this for about 1/3.

At 78 you should not be lifting furniture -- you are not 20 anymore.
