Does anyone know what I need to do to get my garage door to stay down when my neighbor opens their garage door?

I just purchased this home and it is an older home in the Village of Bonita from 2008. I called a garage place and was told I need to have a whole new unit installed which doesn’t sound correct to me.

Has anyone else had this problem!

You need to reset your code. On the wall unit there should be a small reset button. When I did mine I switched which button on the remote I used to open the door which seemed to work. You will need the direction which should be online so you go through the setup correctly. Good luck.

We live in Bonita and had the same problem. The transmitter on the garage wall needed to be replaced. Happened to several other neighbors.

Ours was easy to reset after I found the instructions. You will need to write stuff down for the next time.

The opener stores 8 or 9 codes. You have to clear all the codes and enter a new one.

Reprogram your opener code, you can google how to do it yourself. Get the make and model of your opener and do the search.

Yup, you take out your 9mm and when his garage door opens your garage door you walk over and shoot his garage door opener. It will no longer be able to open your door. Just for a morning laugh 😂

Change the code signal. Look in owner's manual or search on YouTube for video. I have a short extension cord connected to the opener and I unplug, by hand, every night before I go to bed.

Which "garage place" told you, you need a whole new unit?

I had this same issue and I found that the “wireless number pad” on the outside of the garage door was the problem. Once I removed it and reprogrammed the other remotes the problem was resolved.

Thanks everyone for all your responses. Morse Blvd Garage doors told me that I needed to replace the whole thing for more than $400.
Thanks so much!

Call Ryan O'Cull (352) 617 - 0522. Very honest, dependable, knowledgeable, and reasonably priced. He has done work for many neighbors and friends. He is extremely responsive. He will probably answer his phone; or, leave a message and he will return your call pretty quickly. BTW-- he was the one who told us that ROMAC installed incorrect springs on our garage door. ROMAC came out and replaced the incorrect springs at no charge.

I needed a general service and "alignment" because the door wasn't closing properly on the top. "Only springs" said he. Maybe he was just too busy at the time and didn't want to bother? This was a year ago and maybe he changed. That was just my experience.

Here is a copy of the manual for the MVP opener. You need to clear and reset all existing codes. https://data2.manualslib.com/pdf/1/45/4490-allstar/mvp.pdf?80610f6cefd32291f5c05ef3e9e68a34

This happened to me as well, I'd go to sleep with everything locked up and wake up to the garage door wide open, really unnerving! I called the garage door opener company and they sent me a detailed email explaining how to reset the unit. It's an easy fix and apparently happens frequently.

You may find that you in fact do need to replace the unit. The builder has used these same units for 25 years and with only 8 or 9 codes available for them eventually there will be someone else on your code.

Plus these fixed code openers can be opened with electronic devices called code finders so anyone can buy a code finder relatively cheap and open your door.

The new hi tech openers change codes upon each opening with a code generated by the opener.

They also have apps for your phone so you’ll be alerted when your door is opened and can close or open your door from anywhere.

We hade same issue and after several code changes that ultimately stopped fixing the problem in a short while changed the opener to a chamberlain which is virtually silent operation and has the features mentioned above.

$375.00 installed and the door has never been opened by anyone but us since and over 3 years.

Code finder can’t get in as code is generated by our openers only and upon each opening.

Food for thought this happens all the time in the older sections and is rarely fixed permanently by changing codes.

Hang on here! How much more than $400. Depending on the age of the opener you may want to take them up on that offer. Yep 2008 home if that sucker is original equipment it is time to bite the bullet. Trust me I have bought new remotes, installed keypads , erased memories ( not just the ex wife) but there is a point of diminishing returns!

Beware! 12 years ago we bought a villa built in 2000. Went to change the outside keypad code and discovered that there was a simple builder's code in it, for 8 years, that allowed builders and anyone else who knew it access. Keypad will hold several codes. The same code is probably used in many if not all new builds. The code was in the instructions for the world to see.
