Why do we need huge TVs with the news on in fitness centers?

In today's polarizing media atmosphere is it really necessary to have the news on in The Village's fitness centers.

How about just putting on sports that more align with a gym atmosphere.

Not sure, but can't you ask to have the channel changed. I watch whatever is showing because looking out the window for a hour on the treadmill is boring.

As a poster on TOTV I/we don’t have the authority to change the station.

I would be okay with anything but news.

A gym is a place for tranquility, clearing of your mind, and positivity.

Not the gloom and doom of news.

You didn’t mention which fitness center you are talking about specifically but I am at Seabreeze and Colony Cottage four times a week minimum and there are four tvs all on different channels. CNN, Fox News channel, ESPN and the other is usually on the channel that runs the home remodeling programs. At Seabreeze there is an old guy that does the treadmill only and when he comes in the door they switch one tv to the soap opera he likes with closed caption. Personally I am more interested in my workout and chatting with other people in the gym than watching anything on tv.

I look forward to watching the news while I waste time on the treadmill. It's what you should have on there since people are joining the viewing at different times and for different duration. Just don't watch if you don't like it. There is no sound.

You need to speak to the rec center manager, not the RA. Rules are set by the manager and usually they can accommodate individual preferences (if you ask nicely).

When I belonged to a gym up north there were no TV screens on the walls. Individual treadmills had built-in screens where you could watch music videos from a pre-set playlist, the sound would come out of your headset or earbuds which you could plug into the "dashboard" of the treadmill.

They also had an actual movie theatre in the gym, which had more treadmills, a few ellipticals, a high seated rowing machine, and a x-country ski machine. It had stereo surround sound, and every day there was a 3-movie lineup. If it wasn't busy and no one else was in there you could ask them to play any of those movies for you.

I went to the gym to work out, not to be entertained or have chitchat with pals. Even now, when I go to the outdoor gym at Paradise, the only time I really "chat" with anyone is to help them use the machines. A lot of folks are new to them and don't really understand how to use them correctly and safely.

Ok, one more time. Which fitness center do you attend? And what time of day? You want something to happen you gotta start answering questions. Also the tv’s are far from huge

No, that is not the case at the Colony fitness center. I've seen the channel changed. BTW.....have they changed the TVs? The last time I was at a TV fitness center, the TVs were small.

At the Colony fitness center, usually the TV that was tuned to NBC was tuned to HGTV on the week ends. I haven't been back to a TV fitness center since the beginning of the pandemic so things may have changed.

I agree why is Fox News on the left then there are cnn msnbc etc on all the rest of the TVs.
I notice this in California. Fox is on the very left side and then there are 4-5 liberal stations to the right side. News stations are just junk and nobody’s opinions anyway

Ok so those tvs at Laurel manor are not huge probably 42” tvs. Those two are on the same channel so there is a channel that you don’t like. What is it? Also if you are talented you could walk backwards on the treadmill so you don’t have to face those dreaded tvs

I know this forum loves to play the whiners club game which is so childish but if you never speak up for yourself in today's society you are going to be walked all over.

People make themselves sick bottling up everything and what usually happens is they explode one day usually on the wrong person.

I'm not talking about people who complain on a daily basis but there is something called moderation and balance when it comes to what battles you're going to pick and I chose to pick this one.

Do you think slavery ended because people didn't complain, get real with your black and white and all or nothing thinking.

Guess I’m in the minority. I don’t really care if news is on first thing in the morning. Fox vs cnn vs msnbc - at least we can compare notes and then get mad

I used to go to Laural Manor Fitness center, and they would by request change a station. I asked them several times to change to the Golf Channel, no problem. Very friendly there.
Now that I am older and on Medicare, I go to MVP for free through my supplement plan F. They have a nice variety of TV's and also on the treadmills there are built in TV's with 40 channels. That is where I catch up on "Young and the Restless" :1rotfl:
